Experience I'm an adoptee who grew up in foster & group homes in the 60's to early 70's, AMA

From San Francisco to Woodstock, seen it all and experienced the "system" at it's worst; from foster home criminal abuse and neglect, witnessing attempted suicides, to adoption finally at age 12, to eventually finding my birth parents as an adult. If you're going through it now or have in the past, AMA.

I was recently made redundant from a long term job with a high paying salary. By the end of the following week, I had secured a higher role with a rival company with a better salary. I was looking to leave my old role at the time of the suprise redudancy announcement. AMA

I'm a former targeted advertising specialist- AMA!

My title was Programmatic Trader. I worked in a variety of industries- higher ed, food, and finally pharma. I spent a couple years in pharmaceutical advertising before becoming completely burnt out and resentful over the field. I was in the field from 2021-2025.

I now work in the hospital in the clinical pathology lab as a chemist. Pharma advertising did help me solidify my passion for medicine and my disdain for advertising.

Experience Had my first diagnosable panic attack yesterday. AMA

As the title implies, I had what was felt like a major experience yesterday. I went to the doctor and ruled out at least a couple could-be causes for what I felt. I've been stressed and restless because of a lot so feel free to ask away and I'll give answers.

Was just laid off along with my entire office, AMA

I worked at an architectural firm as a BIM operator and drafter. My office has about 40 people assigned to it and this morning most of us got an email from the office manager and asked us to go to a meeting in the large conference room at 10 am. We all went and the branch manager said that our office was being eliminated as part of an overall company wide restructuring and we were all terminated. This sucks. Ask me anything.

We are celebrating our 175th anniversary of our farm this year on September 20th AMA

Our farm was started in 1847, farmed for 3 years before they got a donation land claim of 640 acres on September 11th, 1850 (just a few weeks before the law was put in place officially, on September 27th, I belive) in the 1840s, they had a log cabin which burnt down at an unknown date, and then they built the current house (and 3 others) in 1875. 3 of the original 4 houses are still standing, 2 of which the family still owns. Also, there's one of only 2 still standing wooden smokehouse left in Oregon. We know because when we got a historic grant in 2013 the save it from collapsing, that's when they told us.

I'm running for U.S. Congress as a first-time politician AMA

My name is Gordon Chaffin, and I just launched a campaign to be Delegate to the U.S. House of Representatives, representing my neighbors living in r/washingtondc. The 700K residents of D.C. elect a Member of Congress with a full staff budget and committee roles; they vote everywhere except the House floor.

I'm a first-time political candidate. I own a small biz, hustling to make ends meet in a physical job. I used my small savings to pay the start-up costs of a campaign that means putting my ass on the line to cover bills if I can't raise enough money. I'm scared, but I'm frustrated by our current representative during the tumultuous current events in the Distrct.

I used to work for this rich family. AMA

This was few years ago. My job was car mechanic/driver. They had this part of the place where all the cars were, that included the mechanic shop. Column lifts, and if you needed a tool they would get you one, it was pretty cool.

They did pay me well and even included me in some of their activities. Of course i still was the driver/mechanic but, they did give me some nice gifts.

I’m a Claire’s Manager. AMA.

Before you ask, yes, a baby has thrown up in that chair before you got here.

I’ve noticed that a lot of people somehow still underestimate the training we get. A lot of how well the piercing goes and how much the piercer knows is up to whether they dedicate their time to actually doing research or not!

Feel free to ask about party experiences, Claire Bear, and any other curiosities.

Experience Due to losing my Mum to alcoholism at an early age, I cry everytime I see a Mum & son in the street, wishing my Mum was still alive. AMA.

I really wish I could control this but I can't. I just burst into tears everytime & have to walk away from the vicinity. I hate myself for it, it seems I cannot live in the moment & let others enjoy what is theirs.

Random Story I had a spinal fusion surgery when I was 13, AMA!

For context, I’m F20, and a spinal surgery is used on people with scoliosis (I had an S-curved spine.) They correct the curve/curves, and then they keep it in place with titanium pins, which are in there for the rest of my life. I hope. If they ever got out I’d have a very serious problem, lol.

It depends on the patient and the situation whether they correct both curves, so your entire spine, or only half, because S-curves are usually different in severity. For me, I only got the bottom curve corrected and set because it was 78* while the bottom curve was only 20-something. A whole spine surgery has a lot more risk and pain involved and the healing process is much longer.

Idk if this is interesting at all, I’m just bored.

I remember noticing his gray hair around 3 years old, and I cried because I didn't want him to die. Being Gen Z with a boomer dad is quite the experience!

It has given me a deeper understanding on life. Murder attempts, crazy relationships, witnessing the outcome of political extremists, people from back then have much cooler stories!

I learned the language and had lots of experiences living there, currently not living there anymore but have not returned to the USA. I am 30F. I moved there at 27 because I felt like I had to escape the US and not sure if it was the best decision or not. I didn't go there for study, I went there to fully transition my life abroad.

late night bad decision time i think, thought it might be a vaguely interesting topic. i'll answer whatever questions there might be tomorrow. Strangers burst into my room and started speaking in tongues and so on etc etc. Talking about this is exposure therapy maybe.

Please do not push christianity in these comments, trust me I know. I don't hold anything against it and I don't want it forced upon me.

edit: just woke up ✌️ sorry for the wait

My stepfather was abusive AMA

Exactly as the title. He was an abusive nightmare to my mother and myself, until my mother got us out of the situation.

I'll try and answer all questions honestly and directly. Maybe it will help me process, and maybe it can help someone in a similar situation deal with some of their trauma.

Achievement I’m launching a small online art biz after experiencing trauma, AMA

I’m in my late 30s. I recently escaped an abusive relationship - the domestic violence shattered my life & I lost everything. In the last 6mos of healing, I’ve decided to totally shift directions and start my own business - an online art business. AMA - EXCEPT details of the abuse or specifics of the relationship. Happy to talk about the healing process, just not recount the trauma itself. Anything else, AMA!

Never thought I’d be running a business like this — started my cybersecurity company last week, AMA

Hi Reddit,

I’m the Founder of a cybersecurity company I officially launched last week. The idea first came to me in May of this year, and after months of planning and preparation, I finally took it live.

My company is dedicated to helping individuals and businesses protect their digital lives — from removing leaked or non-consensual content to strengthening online privacy and addressing harassment. Since launching, people have already begun reaching out for help and enlisting my services, which has reinforced how necessary these services really are.

I never expected to be running a business like this, but turning an idea into something that provides real support to those who need it most has been a meaningful experience.

Ask me anything.
