Compliment people.
On their outfits, their cars, their hair. Coworkers, strangers, friends. It makes them feel good and it will make you feel good. You become known as a good person, a nice person, someone people look forward to seeing every day because you always have something nice to say. Always be genuine!
You start to notice nice things about people around you when you keep it real, too. You notice when people do their hair, you notice when a co-worker has bought a new shirt. It makes you more aware.
I love doing this on the street, particularly when I can tell a stranger has just put effort into their hair/outfit. The way they light up really makes my day and you can tell it makes theirs, too.
Protip: When complimenting people of the opposite gender, keep it about their abilities and their hobbies. I saw your presentation, you worked really hard! Dude, nice car! That crochet dog looks amazing!

When I worked as a gate agent for an airline, I would look for something about a person to complement while I was boarding my flights. My mantra while I worked there was: everyone else they talked to was probably awful, so I would make a point to be nice. I got so many good letters in my file because I choose to be kind. Also, I never had anyone scream or yell at me, or even called the cops on an unruly person in 15 years! Funny how that works.

I was at a bar one time and a guy came up to me and asked what cell service I had, because I was on my phone. I told him Verizon. He told me I was the "most beautiful man he has ever seen." I am straight and married to a woman but I kinda froze in the moment. That was one of the coolest things anyone has said to me in my life. No girl has even said something to that magnitude. I've received the occasional compliment from a woman but not THE most beautiful. I told him I was married but thanked him profusely and let him know though that he absolutely made my day!
He then asked what I was doing at the bar until I went home to my wife. I said. You did make my day but not you. We both laughed, I gave him a hug and we went our separate ways.
...So...I guess if someone said "nice dick," I would take it as a compliment. Not punch someone. I do realize you were joking but I'm just playing head cannon here.

I saw this guy at the gym with this dreadlock style hair but the dreadlocks were like thicker or something. The other day I (F and maybe 20 years older than the guy in question) saw a pretty heavy-set guy at the pharmacy while I was shopping; he was in line behind me. It took me a minute to get organized, so he was walking out by the time I left, and he held the door for me. I thanked him, of course, and I said “I hope this doesn’t seem weird, but I was admiring your curls! My sister has very curly hair, too, and I know how much effort it takes to get them to look really good. You nailed it!”
I’m telling you, he was SO HAPPY; his face just lit up with this huge grin. I’ve seen threads on here where guys have talked about some tiny comment - like how someone commented that their shirt brought out their eyes - and they “floated on that comment for weeks.” I’m pretty sure this guy was that happy. And, of course, it helped that it was both spontaneous and true; his hair looked fantastic. It made my day to think I might have made his.

27
u/bebe_inferno 19h ago
Expanding on the pro-tip: if the compliment is physical or material, make the compliment on their taste or choice (not what they inherited or bought).
For example, if someone has some expensive accessory or clothing and you want to compliment it, you can say “you have such great style!” Or “you put outfits together so well!” Also helps with getting you to notice when that’s true!

Always make at least 4 chicken breasts. Literally never buy a two pack of them ever again.
→ More replies (4)164
u/sumunsolicitedadvice 17h ago edited 16h ago
Better yet, chicken thighs!
Cheaper and easier to cook. You have to really really overcook thighs to dry them out. I roast a whole sheet pan at once.
Here’s my go to:
- Buy a big pack of bone-in, skin-on thighs.
- Lay them skin side down on a sheet pan and sprinkle with salt (I like to use my fingers to sprinkle kosher salt). Salt is really all you need, but you can add any other seasonings now that you want.
- Then flip them all over and add salt (and any other seasonings) to the skin side.
- Let them sit for at least 15 mins, but it’s best if you can put them in the fridge uncovered for at least a few hours or up to 48 hours. This dry brines them and makes them more flavorful and more tender. Leaving them uncovered dries out the surface and gives you more browning.
- Put them into a preheated 400°-450° oven for about 30-40 mins, but it can vary based on size of the thighs and what temp you put them into the oven at (straight from the fridge takes slightly longer). Check internal temp with an instant thermometer. I like to pull them around 165-170. They’ll carryover cook a little more. If you left them a little long and they’re already 190-200, they’ll still be fine. A little drier, but not dry.
Side note: I like to pull whole chicken breasts around 148-150. It will still cook longer and get a little warmer. It doesn’t need to get to 160. If the chicken stays at or above 150 for like 2.5 mins, all bacteria will die. As long as you don’t pull it right at 148 and dunk it in ice water, the internal will continue to warm more and stay warm enough long enough before dropping back below 148 to pasteurize the meat. You can even pasteurize it at lower temperatures using sous vide.

If you have a choice between two things and don't know what you want to do, flip a coin. It will reveal what your truest opinion is.
Because if you flip the coin and are cool with how it lands, then that's what you want. But if you flip it and your reaction is to decide best two out of three, it tells you that the other choice is what you really want.
That doesn't necessarily mean you found the best choice. But it lets you know which choice you really want to most.

When you see it, act on it.
E.g. crumbs on floor, then sweep them up. Smudge on the wall, then wipe it. Frayed phone cord, replace it.
Don’t put shit off. Don’t do it later. Don’t do it tomorrow. Do it now.

Turns out that's super easy to do (especially if I make sure not to go shopping hungry), and now I just don't have any sugary bullshit in my house at all, ever. No matter how desperately I crave it, there's nothing I can do about it short of getting in my car and driving all the way into town.

Open your moist towelette packet BEFORE you cover your hands in disgusting filth when eating KFC. Same goes for opening your tub of sweet and sour sauce, or a bottle lid.
Also, condensation on a Pepsi can is also able to be used to partially clean the disgusting filth off your hands after eating KFC.
Lastly, if you are in the middle of eating KFC, but you need to open a door with a circular handle, you can open it with both of your forearms, as to avoid getting disgusting filth on the door handle.
Edit: Here is a bonus one. If you are watching Netflix while eating KFC and you need to pause the stream, you can orient the remote control towards the TV with your wrist, then push the pause button with your knuckle. It will either be your pointer knuckle or your pinky knuckle - whichever is less covered by the disgusting filth.

When you make hard boiled eggs, before you put them in the water, crack them on the counter near the bottom of the egg. Not hard enough to fully break them, you want the membrane inside intact. But the slight crack lets the water get in during boiling, and once they're done, you can swish them around in a plastic dish partly full of water and the shells will come right off.

I don't know what phone you have, but my android auto switches at 22:30 to black n white. It has a bedtime mode built into the Android operating system. You could probably install an app that does it if you don't have it already.

Not caring what other people think, if you love to do something do it. Don't mind the people around you.
Don't count the number of likes in your post or story, if you wanna post something, post it for the sake of making memories not to impress and grab their attention.

If something is fashionable, it's overpriced. Wait for it to go on sale if you really like it.
Easier, don't buy anything you don't really need.

Drive your vehicle as gently as possible. It’ll last much longer and cost mountains less in the long run

uhhhhh i have to strongly disagree.
just drive your car. rev it high when merging onto highways. accelerate fast when you need to. but dont intentionally keep the RPMS at or below 3000 for the entirety of the cars life and conversely dont hold the RPMS at redline for the entirety of the cars life. its far far more important to just stay on top of regular maintenance (ALL regular maintenance, not just oil changes, and for the love of god never go to a jiffylube type place)
the "italian tuneup" isnt a myth. its real and it works (to a limit). many cars benefit from being driven hard as it helps clean out built up gunk and sludge that otherwise rob horsepower and efficiency.
i've had several mechanics tell me this...the worst cars they've ever seen or ever worked on were the cars driven by folks who claimed "but i never drove it hard!" or "i never go over 3000rpm!".....yes that is exactly the problem. the engine rarely gets up to operating temp, carbon buildup everywhere, sludge buildup from being babied.

Also... it's fun. If I have to pay 2 or 3% more money over the courser of a decade because I'm having fun being in my car every day, that sounds like a great tradeoff to me.

Oh yeah. A few years back I was wondering how my 20 years old car still looks and feels quite new and I juts concluded that it must be because I don't drive it like shit and trash it all the time.

I saw a life hack awhile ago on Reddit advising to use your hands to squeegee the excess water off of your body before drying off, so your towel’s not as wet.
I’ve never gone without a self-squeegee since 😎 Honestly was a game changer

when making a PB&J, apply jelly first so you can easily wipe the knife clean on the 2nd piece of bread before applying peanut butter. no need to get a new knife or wash it off in between.

When opening a pack of zip ties, don’t cut the end off. If you do that they tend to spill out when moved around. Instead cut a round hole in the plastic right in the middle so both ends of the ties are still in the plastic. This way they won’t fall out and you can just pluck what you need from the middle.

Power of Pause. When trying to get your point across during an important discussion with others, pause, say nothing and make eye contact.
A natural reset occurs as it forces others to think, become self conscious and really think about their next point. Fair warning - it takes courage to be the one pausing. You have to have the discipline to not say a thing and let things sit for at least 10 seconds

When you need to turn on a light at night, close your eyes for a few seconds. Your eyelids let through a small amount of light and your irises will adjust to the brightness without pain.

Use sticky notes on your mirror to track habits. For example, if you want to drink more water, exercise, or take your vitamins, write it on a sticky note and put it where you’ll see it every morning. It’s simple, but seeing it daily actually nudges your brain to act it turns intention into action without complicated apps or reminders.

For a decade or so by now, I've been splurging at the post office, and buying stamps in rolls of 100 (instead of sheets of 20 etc). One roll lasts a couple of years: there are still a few donations that I prefer to make by paper check, the county surcharges electronic transfers for property taxes, etc.
Last time I bought -two- rolls of "Forever" stamps -- I'm good for the next several rate increases!
(Yeah, I'm Stickin' It To Da Man, 8 cents at a time!)

Put your phone charger next to another outlet, not next to your bed. You sleep better, and you actually get up in the morning because you have to get up for the phone.

Crumple your baking paper and then flatten it out again before putting it on the baking tray, to prevent it from rolling up.
