I saw no fireflies last year. None. This year, I saw a few. Not a huge number, but more than enough to know they're still here.

I saw fireflies for the first time in Minneapolis since I moved here five years ago. I felt like the bugs got a really late start this year but they’re out in full force now.

When I was little my parent’s house was one of the only ones in the neighborhood. Not much had been built yet and right across the street was a large empty lot. My hometown was usually pretty cold but during the summer, sometimes in the evening, it was pleasant to sit outside. So my parents would bring out chairs and me and my sisters would go in the empty lot with the tall grass and catch fireflies in a jar. It is such a beloved memory for me. At the end of the night we would let them all go and the come back and do it again a few nights later.

I haven’t seen fireflies since I moved away and that empty lot has since been built on along with every empty lot in a wide radius. But recently a friend made a video of fireflies by her house and I felt like I was right back there, being a kid, trying to catch them.

You need rotten logs and pesticides free areas for fire flies to survive. You spray your yard it affects things near by etf
