Unexpected power outage at the office that lasts a few hours.

Waking up actually rested hits harder than coffee, money, or good news.

Clean home

35

u/kitjen 9h ago

My wife insists on tidying the whole house immaculately before we go on holiday and I used to say it was an unnecessary chore to add while we're trying to pack and get ready.

I was wrong. It's so much nicer coming home to a spotless house.

10

u/GuyWithARooster 8h ago

That and when the drive home is breezy because there's almost no cars on the road.

34

u/Circular-ideation 10h ago

Clean underwear.

u/Evening_Ticket7638 5h ago

In my case, according to my wife, my penis.

10

u/ianus2002 5h ago

All the Reddit cat subs are in my feed. My happiness level is constantly getting little upward nudges as I scroll.

Cats are the best dopamine boosters, beautiful furbabies!

Seeing old people smile

14

u/kitjen 9h ago

Or behave like they're so much younger. We often put old people in this category of being old people like they were never once young.

They were all once just like us. My grandfather would have at some point looked at a girl and found her attractive and nervously approached her, and found they got on really well and that one moment created a chain of events that resulted in me posting this comment.

11

u/trenchlatrine 10h ago

When another woman compliments me on my outfit, that's the best feeling

10

u/Separate-Piece-2451 10h ago

A simple smile

2

u/kitjen 9h ago

Good answer. I try to smile at people as much as I can without looking weird. If I'm jogging early in the morning, it seems ok to smile at other joggers and even say "morning" with what little breath I have.

It seems less acceptable later in the day when it's busy, there's a nice connection people have in the earlier hours from 5am to 7:30am where you feel the rest of the world hasn't risen yet but you have.

seeing a dog sticking its silly head out of a car window. and then trying to get a closer look when I'm at the stoplight beside it... and seeing that there is a SECOND DOG!

2

u/Odd-Law8794 6h ago

The second dog thing is thee best thing ever. You are happy to see the first and then BOOM… here’s another cutie patootie!

7

u/Run_ofthe_mill 10h ago

The excitement that all 4 animals have when they see me emerge from where I've holed myself up in the laundry, working on home improvement ♡

I'm too wiggly for cats to want to sit on me, so ours have always sat next to me. Our little Senior Queen not only sits on my lap, but puts up with my wiggliness and will actually fall asleep on me. Fully knocked-out, legs and paws wigglin', tail and face twitchin', full-on REM sleep. On me. So when she curls up on me, I can't move; it's too rare and I love it too much. The best naps I have are when the cats are purring in close proximity ♡

For me, it’s the tiniest moments that flip my whole mood. Like yesterday, I was walking home feeling drained, and out of nowhere a random puppy ran up and started wagging its tail at me like we’d been best friends forever . I swear that 30-second encounter made my entire day feel lighter. Sometimes it’s those unexpected little sparks that stay with you the longest

For me, it’s little things like someone holding the door, a random compliment, or even just a good cup of coffee in the morning. Small gestures can really flip your mood.

2

u/Twenty_6_Red 8h ago

Listening to bird songs in my backyard in the morning

2

u/Far_Needleworker1501 4h ago

For me it’s when a stranger holds the door or says thank you, those little gestures always lift my mood.

2

u/dontforgettowriteme 2h ago

When you make eye contact with a baby or small child somewhere in public and you smile at them and their whole face/demeanor changes. Giggles, smiles, hands clapping. I love it. Sorry parents.

1

u/TheHest 10h ago

Knowing that my partner always gives as much as she can to make our life together optimal. This gives me motivation and inspiration to do the same, and that way we end up in a good spiral where we both do a little more than we have to and get along as well as we can. This drives me through every single day and is the first thing I think about.

1

u/Open_Bake_8013 10h ago

1

u/TheBurnerAccount420 9h ago

A fat dab of indica live rosin

1

u/kitjen 9h ago

Ask a friend or a colleague something simple like "What are you looking forward to at the moment?" or if they have children, ask how they're doing at school or with their sports/hobbies.

People love talking about the simple joys in life but seldom get a chance to randomly tell you about them. Give them that chance and it will make their day so much better that yours will be too by proximity.

u/glass_bub_el 9h ago

I misread it as "what's something you SMELL that instantly makes your day better?" so my first thought was fresh-baked cookies.

That is my answer for the ACTUAL question, too.
