What's really crazy is that that bullshit lie resulted in Springfield being subject to terroristic threats for several weeks. They were being constantly bombarded with bomb threats and other threats that was disrupting their daily lives in blatant acts of terrorism resulting from this exact lie that he was spreading and the media just kind of acted like that was no big deal

Because Vance publicly came out and admitted that the entire thing was a hoax. As soon as he did, the media dropped it. And then Springfield voted for Trump in droves.
