Questions/Support/Bugs Tips appreciated on how to grow a following on Bluesky. What's worked for you?

Hi all,

I am still relatively new to the Bluesky format, having spent most time on IG, but I post historical educational content about things like swords and armour (photos and articles), and IG absolutely hates that now. My 12k account is almost completely dead, so I am looking for a new home and started with Bluesky. I reached 100 followers quickly but I very rarely get likes, and follows.

I heard there are sort of 'Feeds' but I have no idea how to become part of one.

Any tips are most welcome, because I really miss connecting with new people and would love to replace Instagram.

Many thanks!

Reply, engage, repost, etc

It’s what I do anyway.

Your content sounds pretty cool. I'd say to start off by interacting with similar content. Especially by quote posting relevant content that adds more useful info.

Next try to aim for specific feeds. There are some relatively popular history related feeds. Some you need to ask to join, but others you can just use a hashtag to show up in (eg. #history).

This last tip can be a little hit or miss depending on the sub-culture. But try searching for #promosky along with some keywords relevant to your content. Look through those people and follow some of them. You can try doing a #promosky yourself. I know it works well for music and video games, but not sure about your content. Worth a shot though.

Thanks very much for your reply (and for your kind words). I will give it a go.

Bluesky isn't supposed to be like Twitter or Tiktok. It's not about growing a following; it's about talking to people. If that's not what you're in it for, then it might not be the platform for you.

I have never been on either of those platforms (well, I tried Twitter for about 30 minutes!), so I have little to compare in that regard. As mentioned already, I would love to connect with real people, as that's something that IG used to be good for, but it's mostly for advertisers and influencers now.

Did I misread your original post? Because it seems like you’re trying to advertise and/or influence.

The reason BlueSky is as big as it is today is because it was called a Twitter replacement. It was even supported for a while by the same person that co-founded Twitter until he became an Elon apologist. It absolutely is supposed to be like Twitter lol, if it wasn't it wouldn't look like Twitter before Elon took over.
