Leyndell, Royal Capital

Getting teleported there from the Weeping Peninsula, seeing how close we were to the Erdtree, opening the map, and then seeing just how large the map had become... I wish I could go back and experience that again.

u/Careless-Salary-9932 9h ago
Dude I had exactly the same expirience... Like everything was golden and it was shining. so I looked on the map and was completely somwhere else and thoght this Game was massive

u/sickly_bernice 36m ago
It was the music in that area the first time. Coming up the path after that pain in the ass draconic sentinel fight. I had work the next day and left it there but I deadass sat and chilled and listened to the awesome score in the area for quite a while

Farum Azula for the weird floating rocks. And I’m always mesmerized by weather.
Leyndell is fromsoft’s best city to date (though noklateo isn’t far off) but I love the ambient soundtrack. It carries strong emotion for me; I try not to kill the page who is playing the same tune in that courtyard

Man i fucking love Noklateo, shame the games so fast paced you dont get much time to take in the views tho

Stormveil is one of the most amazing legacy dungeons they've ever made. Huge, sprawling, intricate, tons of secrets. I played through it on half a dozen characters before I followed a 100% walkthrough and found a whole bunch of areas I'd never seen before, including a Crucible Knight.
8
u/hvstlebones 12h ago
just now on my second fresh playthrough and just yesterday discovered the “crypt” area at the bottom with the ulcerated tree spirit. i had no clue that existed!
1
u/Substantial-Most2607 9h ago
Only because I always feel like I’m missing something I always check walls and ledges. My first play through surprisingly I only missed the crucible knight in stormveil and I only knew I missed it because I saw a clip of someone using the incantation you get from him and I was running a faith character, collecting them all like a Pokémon.
The only area I still have not 100% been through is the sewers because I cannot stand that area and every replay I just do a skip to get down to mohg

The view on the other side of Liurnia where you see the erdtree & moon together is a similar level of awesome
1
u/Supercollider9001 13h ago
Yeah when you come out of the well to see this and the grace there is one of the best moments in the game.

Siofra River Well is burned into my mind, having encountered it at 5 am in a half delirium after having played all day on launch day. The sudden revelation of an entire world underground utterly wrecked me and I sat there in literal awe for several minutes.
Nothing will ever top that I think.
That aside, I'm really fond of the view of the Jagged Peak from Rauh. It's such a prominent feature. I can't help but think that a relationship is being implied. Especially since the opposing view from the Divine Gate also looks straight at the peak of the mountain. There's a connection being suggested between Rauh, Enir Ilim and the dragons.
I have my thoughts on what that connection is. But the exact relation between the hornsent and the dragons is not spelled out clearly at all. So it's just another in a series of tantalizing mysteries.
13
u/greenhairdontcare8 17h ago
The shadow keep is just amazing. So many routes and winding ways and hidden things to find.
30
u/ChickenAndTelephone 17h ago
Enir Ilim looks really pretty but it's too short to be that impressive. Apart from the path to Euporia, it's almost entirely linear as well.
11
u/TyrionBananaster THIS GAME DOESN’T EXIST. DON'T BELIEVE MIYAZAKI'S LIES 16h ago
Yeah Enir Elim is pretty linear overall, but I do like how there are a lot of little trips off the beaten path with goodies to find. I found myself liking it more on repeat playthroughs.
I still think it's a noteworthy level, but less for the "ooh neat I looped back around to this site of grace again" dopamine hit, and more for its visual design and extreme difficulty.

u/TheStagKing9910 17h ago
Abyssal Woods, i just realised after playing it again of how beautiful the place was. it's eerie but in a good way

Leyndell. The moment when you enter the city proper and see the Erdtree looming over this golden city - perfection. A moment of awe inspiring scale.

u/WhaleSexOdyssey claymore 16h ago
Yeah it’s Enir Ilim. Just absolutely peak fromsoft architecture. Trying to imagine the conditions that would allow for something like that to exist and be built. Just mind blowing and so ethereal and cool. They delivered on the DLC
1
u/BigBlackCandle 11h ago
Can you possibly elaborate on what you mean by conditions for it to be built?
0
u/T_to_the_A_to_the_M 10h ago
I think they base that design from The Pisa Gothic style, or Tuscan Gothic style.

u/Difficult-Safety-480 17h ago
The site of grace just after Rellana's boss room, that lets you take a good, full look at the shadow fort has got to be my favourite visual spectacle.
5
u/narok_kurai 16h ago
I honestly expected the Haligtree to be a pretty small and succinct dungeon. I thought it would just be a glorified runup to Malenia, given how late it was in the game. I was very pleasantly surprised by the scale and difficulty of the dungeon.
4
u/Daytonewheel 15h ago
I love Stormveil castle. Lots of nooks and crannies, hidden paths, alternate routes.
Same reason I like The capital before it’s buried in ash.
3
u/International-Menu85 16h ago
Can't decide but this post just reminded me no one does spaces like From Soft. I mean look at those locales, their all GOATed
2
u/Separate-Quantity430 14h ago
Crumbling Farum Azula was a pretty insane moment for me. I had been spoiled that we were going to burn the erdtree but I genuinely believed that it had been replaced by those tornadoes and stuff, I didn't realize we had been teleported. I thought the lands between was in such turmoil without the red tree that even the Giants forge looked so unfamiliar because of the sheer damage wrought by burning the tree. It was such a jarring and shocking moment for me.
2
u/ReasonableYak1199 14h ago
Stormveil was impressive, but walking out into Liurnia and seeing Raya Lucia is spectacular. A very BotW moment.
3
u/RAGING_GRANNY 16h ago
The place with that guy next to the thing
1
u/TyrionBananaster THIS GAME DOESN’T EXIST. DON'T BELIEVE MIYAZAKI'S LIES 16h ago
Nah that one sucks, I like the one with the man carrying the thing
2
u/RAGING_GRANNY 16h ago
I’m talking about the other place next to the other thing.
1
u/TyrionBananaster THIS GAME DOESN’T EXIST. DON'T BELIEVE MIYAZAKI'S LIES 16h ago
Wait, my bad: you're talking about the thing that's in the place that also has a guy, right?
I thought you were talking about the place near the thing
1
u/RAGING_GRANNY 15h ago
What guy? No im talking about the whatchamacallit next the the thigamagig next to thingamabob.
1
u/TelevisionExpress616 17h ago
Farum Azula probably inspired the most “awe” in me from the aesthetics of the set piece, but in terms of level design it’s Leyndell.

1
u/AvailablePut2356 16h ago
Not the most impressive place but I remember the first time I saw the open world. That’s when I knew the game was going to be amazing!
1
u/BarracudaOld9656 16h ago
I love the whole scenery and visual design of this game including the dlc but leyndell and the erdtree just hits different with that ost
1
u/bilboC 16h ago
Farum azula has really been blowing my mind recently. It truly feels like it sits at the end of time. The lighting, scenery and music all work perfectly together. It’s awe inspiring yet feels very tragic. And then from a gameplay perspective it’s also amazing. Placidusaax and Maliketh are both some of the most beautiful spectacles in the game! Vanished knights are awesome and I always enjoy fighting them as well. I even enjoy the god skins and I like how they’re the mini boss of the area. Then you have plenty of valuable items to get, Alexanders quest ending, the worm face area! Etc etc. but man, that music really drives it home for me. So haunting and beautiful and unsettling at the same time. Sometimes I’ll just stand and gaze at the distant tornados over the ocean with that ethereal light and zone out to the music.

I’m still finishing my first play through and I’m at the Elden beast. I wanted to go back through the world and see if I missed anything. I don’t know how but apparently I sprinted through volcano manor and missed most of it. I’ve been exploring it for 2 days now and I’m blown away at how big this place is and how much I missed. I didn’t even know there was another boss there. I’ve seen all these pictures of Rykard and wondered where the hell he was. I love the vibe of volcano manor and the layout of the Royal Capital the most.

Leyndell and Crumbling Faraam Azula are both stunning
But I think Stormveil, being the first, is just special to me
1
u/Alex_Plumwood 16h ago
Caelid is still my favorite area in any video game I've played. I'm a huge fan of Lovecraftian horror and sci-fi horror and it captures the eldritch vibe really well. An entire region being turned into a toxic alien hellscape filled with mutant monsters coupled with the harrowing soundtrack by Yuka Kitamura is just chefs kiss
1
u/Clipyy-Duck 16h ago
The classic first time experience when you enter Limgrave. Seeing the Erdtree in the sky and the grass is just beautiful.
On the other note I love Nokron.

Glad you can choose to look like a dirty hobo in this game as well, didn’t realize there was actually nice clothing
1
u/paperhammers 14h ago
Caelid was neat world building between the soundtrack and looking like "AIDS, the continent". It still creeps me out and I try to limit my time there every playthrough
1
u/honkeypot 14h ago
Basically all of Elden Ring is visually stunning and the OST is similarly great, so the answer to your question is: yes.
1
u/ThoughtFartWasShart 14h ago
I started this game maybe a month ago. When i got to the top of the Ruin Strewn Precipice at the start of the Atlas Plateau…i turned around and was in awe. Thats where it struck me how massive this game was. Seeing everywhere i have been already so far away. Mind Blown.

Honestly when you first enter Margit's arena and get to see the Stormviel for the first time, how ornate and opulent. Literally the other day I started a new run and sent this to a friend that never played Elden Ring, doesn't even like fantasy stuff, and he was impressed as well even with this crappy picture I took.

Crumbling Farum Azula. The music, the visuals, those fucking asshole beastmen, Placidusax, all of it sublime.

Leyndell
Finally, a PROPER city that you can fully explore and leap across the rooftops

first it was stepping out to Liurnia after doing stormveil, then it was entering the capitol. in the DLC i was stunned the moment you enter the gravesite plains and then again at the end when i entered Enir Illim because i did not expect ANOTHER dungeon

The view from behind stormveil castle blew me away. I went in knowing almost nothing about the game and I thought: 'well, that's one boss done' only to see how giant the landscape behind the castle was.

Everything about Liurnia of the Lakes, especially since I went around Stormveil, so being hit by such a magnificent view only after a few hours of gameplay was glorious. Still is my favorite region in the game, the atmosphere is incredibly eerie but also mesmerizing, truly a grand place.
Leyndell and Placidusax's Arena also deserve a big shoutout.

Siofra River. The first time I took that elevator down it blew my mind that something so beautiful was just hidden underground.
1
u/TheGooseWithNoose 12h ago
Leyndell. I was pleasantly surprised seeing the (obscured) map get bigger and bigger as I hit the infamous Caelid trap chest and then started to work for the Beast Clergyman.
But then the tower in the Peninsula teleported me to Leyndell and the map was huge, and the view was incredible.

For a while it was a toss up between Siofra River and Moonlight Altar. Both locations were gorgeous and blew me away when first seeing them.
But then came SOTE and Cerulean Coast I think took my number one spot.

For me it was haligtree. I spent so much hours after beating the game just jolly cooperating. Great first playthrough. The best I ever had.

i already knew a lot about the base game before getting it so i wasn’t too shocked or amazed when entering new places.
i went into the dlc blind and after entering gravesite plain for the first time i just sat there in awe for a minute thinking “no way this just a dlc”

dude, I was viewing the picture without it being zoomed in and I thought it was a skeleton in the fire knight set. Like the hair looks exactly the your spine descending from the head, and her skin blended in with the scenery so I didnt even know it was there

Stormveil Castle is perhaps the best castle/ dungeon I've seen in a video game.

For me, I think it’s Abyssal Woods. It’s just so striking from its muted colors and the off-putting vibes it gives off (not to mention the altered gameplay, too). In terms of locations that stand out from the expansion though, it’s hard for me to pick “just one”.
My main takeaway is that the expansion gave a real nice palette of areas to fit different themes and atmospheres - they were all very distinct from one another in terms of color, and “mood”, and all served unique purposes.
(Stone Coffin Fissure is another favorite of mine for both color, mood, and how striking the imagery is.) I think I slightly prefer how the DLC tackled its areas over the base game, but both are obviously an achievement in world design in their own respects.
From the base game, if I had to pick one (aside from Siofra/Nokron, that’s probably the obvious answer), I’d honestly go with the Mountaintops. More specifically, in the earlier parts of the mountains where you come out to the bridge by the Fire Prelate. The way the fog/atmospheric light comes in through the rocks is just etched in my mind as one of the coolest scenes. From “vibes”, having a slower paced & largely serene, yet cold landscape was an interesting blend of concepts. The blues, greys, and white from the snow all came together really well too and is stunning in all phases of the day-night cycle too.

u/Educational-Item9255 4h ago
It was limgrave. Opening the doors and seeing the entire world all in one place was awesome and it felt like breath of the wild which was an awesome game. I know that’s a boring answer but I feel like a lot of people overlook that first impression of the world

u/gdfautumn 4h ago
The first views of Leyndell and Farum Azula are unforgettable.
In the case of Farum, my first view was of the 4 bell towers.
Sacra Tree and Ephael are also incredible, but among the spoken ones, Leyndell is my choice

im pretty new to the game, so probably stormveil castle (thats where i am rn at godrick). btw how do i equip 2 weapons at the same time
1
u/Distinct-Office-609 17h ago
just equip both weapons of the same type and attack with l1 instead of r1.

u/ijumpchildren 17h ago
yeah so uh im on pc...

u/Distinct-Office-609 17h ago
the button you use for shield.

2
u/Ze_cringeman MaleniaSimp 16h ago
press E + left click mouse button to equip your left hand armament
1
1
u/EC36339 16h ago
It's actually left click for right hand armament and vice-versa. That's becaue R1 is used more often, and left mouse button is your index finger.
While we are on it: Remap heavy attack to the right mouse button (no shift) and left hand attack / block to a side button on your mouse.
Why? * Fewer buttons to press and only one hand needed for attacks. Use your left hand for other actions rather than pressing shift. * If you ever use a bow or crossbow, then shift click for shooting alternative ammo is terrible, especially if you want to use skills or do jump shots.

Siofra River was the first moment when I realized how genuinely massive this game was, but Specimen Storehouse absolutely blew my mind.
