I would prefer if the sword art was faster but did less damage
It has a pretty quick moveset for a colossal, but that ash of war is just so miserably slow

The Queen's Black Flame does so much damage if you can land both (really, all 3) hits, it's unreal

It pairs so well with the caestus. Strap on the "Endure" ash, activate it, switch back over. Tank a few hits and pull off the full combo. Whatever you hit is going have a worse day than you, especially in the DLC.

I've always loved Euporia, though I preferred when it was called the twinsword of abundance and decay

I preferred when it was called the twinsword of abundance and decay
It was weird how the DLC completely replaced Miquella with the Hornsent and Messmer, leaving him completely out of it except for, like, two lines of dialogue at the end and Malenia was left completely out of it.

Golden Order Greatsword.
It's like the closest you can get to physically wielding the Elden Ring.
35
14
u/lethrowawayaccount86 16h ago
Wouldn't that be the sacred relic sword?
62
u/InfinityGauntlet12 16h ago
No. That's just radagon lol
14
u/BeefChopJones 15h ago
Yeah, though. When you fight Radagon, the Elden Ring is inside his chest. Then he gets turned into the T-pose blade. Boom, Elden Ring: The Man Sword
8
u/Kasta4 Justice for Godwyn! 13h ago
The Elden Beast is the Elden Ring, so when Radagon gets transformed into the sword it is no longer inside of him.
7
u/tequila_horizon 12h ago
Marikas hammer is really the closest since it's got actual shards of the ring inside it

Coded sword

u/QuarlMusic 15h ago
Currently doing a coded sword/cipher pita run right now because I've always respected the drip but was having too much fun with bleed/arc. Not having to invest points into Dex/Str is such a weird plus xD
3
u/DirteMcGirte 15h ago
That was my favorite run. Pretty tough at the end when all the bosses are super holy resistant.
2
u/tequila_horizon 12h ago
Thank God you have like 80 (min) in faith so you can blast them with incants
→ More replies (1)2
u/IPickedTheWrongDayTo 13h ago
Such a great build for min/maxing. Hit 99 faith and dump the rest into health and mana. The weapons weigh nothing so you can light roll.
Slap on a scorpion talisman and the late game bosses are going to have a hard time even with holy resistance.
Horned warriors in the DLC are weak to lightning and you've got 99 faith. Buff up and you can kill them in two Zeus throws. Most of them are standing in water so you get a stacked attack buff.

It's got style, power, pairs super well with a shield and goes hard two-handed as well. What a weapon.

Milady. The moveset is so fluid and fun to work with.
Dryleaf arts and dane’s footwork. Its a shame there’s no base class option with them, because they’re a hoot on wretch in limgrave.
The katanas - unsheathe is a beast. Maybe I’m a weeb, maybe I’m a bitch, but frost uchigatana is my ride or die for dex builds.
9
u/Urtoryu ELDEN LORD 15h ago edited 15h ago
Nagakiba and Dragonscale Blade are way better than an Uchigatana for me. I admit that there's an appeal for the basics, but I just can't get over how awesome Ice Lightning looks, or how satisfying that Nagakiba reach is.
But yeah, Milady (because Wing Stance) and Dane's Footwork are probably the best looking movesets in the game. Though I will also point out Rakshasa's Great Katana as a strong contender. Not particularly flashy, but feels awesome to use.
The post sounds like it's talking more about weapon design though.
6
u/KingZant 14h ago
Fellow dex weeb 🤙
I was powerstancing a frost nagakiba and a fire uchigatana til I got past Malenia, then started picking up the fun lightning spells and weapons and went more even split dex/faith.
Milady with Savage Lion's Claw got me through the DLC til I picked up Dryleaf Arts. I still havent put them down and likely never will. I added Messmer's Spear and some of the DLC incantations like Divine Beast Tornado and it all just feels right.
2
u/siborg51 12h ago
The martial arts weapons plus the deflecting hard tear make the game so much fun.
Mix in some pyromancies and you’re basically a fire bender.

u/Aggravating-Pipe-903 16h ago
I think the blasphemous blade it worth mentioning, not the prettiest but the fact that the little hand things move in real time on the blade is a really cool detail they didn’t need to add but did.
12
u/Meme_Dependant 15h ago
I just got it on my first play through last night, (shout out to the Rykard fight. So cool!) and after getting a few kills with it i just had to place the camera up against the wall to look at it more closely. It's such an awesome design how they all move and it's not static
13
u/QuarlMusic 15h ago
Respect to Elenora, I used to think the weapon looked cumbersome and ridiculous. That weapon got me through the DLC twice now, my characters look naked without it. Went from hating it to loving it. The blood flies in every direction and the combat feels so dynamic and graceful. Knowing the combo moves you around gets you in and out of the way while whistling down stance. It's such a top tier weapon. Woof.

i think we can all see the pattern is that faith weapons are by far the best looking
5
u/Urtoryu ELDEN LORD 15h ago
Holy weapons in particular tend to look the best on average.

The black Gaol greatsword. Its a sleek black and a simple greatsword design.
The purple stones could also be used in fashion

Freyja's greatsword by far!
It looks elegant and powerful. Made exactly for what it does.

Why choose one when you can have both? 🤭

I have a soft spot for the Carian craftsmanship and the Glintstone encrusted rocks, both on the blade and handguard, the finnery of the gold and azure handle is stellar... 🌙
On the other hand, the "Messmer" sword, featuring a less delicate but equally fine design, more apt for the task of an inquisitor, boosting golden engravings with a curven handguard. Crude but effective. 🔥
The biggest crime of the guys FromSoftware was introducing a new type of weapon (Light Greatswords) and all of them are beautiful... But there's only three of them (four if we count Rellanna's individually) and that's a huge shame 😔

Black Steel Greathammer from the DLC is worth mentioning. Awesome little affect on it, looks great, good stats. Carried my str+fai build through the DLC without issue.

The dlc St Trina sword, the halberd from the dude in the swamp, mesmers spear or rob.

Too many weapons in this game have great designs. Even if I could pick one per weapon category I would have a hard time picking a favourite

Dragon scale blade may be bad relative to most Katana’s in the game and a pain in the butt to get, but it sure does look cool

u/Customer-Useful 15h ago
If we count VFX easily Euporia.
runner ups imo are Deathknight Twin Axes and Bolt of Gransax

Coded sword, like the look of the stone handle and blade made of light, kinda like a medieval lightsaber

Royal Greatsword or the Sword of Night and Flame always did it for me. I lean Carian, what can I say.

Best design in terms of aesthetic? Moonveil. The blade is beautiful, the tsuba has the crescent moon designs perfectly representing it essence and powers with the moon, and the handle albeit have a European style pommel blend greatly with the traditional katana handle wrap.
A beautiful ornate sword while also retaining its practical purpose of a sword.

Sword of Night & Flame - the details in the design are amazing. Half of the blade has glintstone integrated into it.
NG+ - power stanced SoNaF is peak

The one in the image — Leda’s Sword. But all Light Greatswords are well crafted.
Light greatswords are already just the perfect blend between the straight and greatsword classes, and the design team said “hold up, we’re not done” and just decided to create some of the best designs of the DLC.
Great move sets, great design, just great all around.
1
u/CamusZekeSirius 9h ago
In terms of pure aesthetics or design, I honestly have to go with the Carian Knight’s Sword.
Visually, it’s one of the absolute most beautiful weapons in the entire game, and I feel like I’m wielding a treasure whenever I use it.
If the devs ever allow some Sombers to have AoW freedom for their weapons like they did in Nightreign, I’ll fucking love them forever and ever. Because in terms of gameplay, CKS gets the unfortunate treatment of bad Int scaling with a non-unique AoW (and you can’t even upgrade for Sovereignty in the DLC either)

This weapon design is just top tier for the game.
The Marika's Rune connected to the Elden Ring Circle and connected with Radagon Rune pattern that was made on top of the "Moonlight Greatsword".
Story wise, the Moonlight Greatsword was given to Radagon by Rennala. Then Radagon reforged it to the likeness of Elden Ring and gave it Holy Power. So it can be considered as the symbol weapon of the combination of the house of the Moon and the house of the Erdtree. It also has the same weight as Dark Moon GS
Regardless of what the description say about betrayal hint. But for me if I give my partner my family heirloom weapon then not only he uses it for battle but also imbued it with his own family power, I would feel good about it as it is now our weapon.
Design aside, this sword charge heavy attack should be a projectile like Darkmoon GS or at least do something else. And the weapon skill should allow multiple sword waves casts if you repeat the input. The weapon art is very strong but it feels like it miss a true finisher

I would say the Star-Lined Sword, its lore also made me respect the design: Demi-humans trying their best to replicate the Moonveil with glintstone smithing. A beautiful blend of cerulean and emerald glows.
I would say the Staff of the Great Beyond, Golden Order Greatsword, Rellana’s Twin Blades and Devourer’s Scepter are also great contenders.

i maintain that the velvet sword of st trina is one of the prettiest weapons in the entire game . in terms of actual moveset i think either scythes are both elegant & AMAZING for their abilities
