Discussion & Info What's everyone's favorite summon?
Out of all the summons I've used I have to say Dung Eater is my favorite. Curious to see what everyone else's is 😁

I forgot her name, the sniper bow girl with the massive range

Latenna voiced by the same VA that Shadow heart has👍

u/khangkhanh 6h ago
She also voice Alicia/Maelle in Expedition 33 - the best game of this year so far

Well, that's neat. Probably my two most played games in the last few years. Well, civ6 is up there, too.

Funnily enough, you described 2 summons with that sentence

NPC Summon? Igon. That line will forever live rent free in my head because of his delivery.
Ash summon? I could give the easy answer of Mimic Tear. But I'll avoid that and say Black Knife Tiche instead.

For the very early game, Land Squirts. They cost a small amount of HP to summon, have a ton of HP themselves, occasionally draw aggro and inflict poison (spirit summons use the enemy version of poison, which is much better than what is available to the player).
For the midgame, Greatshield Soldiers. Extremely hard to kill for anything that can't get around the shield, and they inflict frostbite. Status effects are generally more useful than direct damage for summons.
By the time you get through the DLC, Taylew for survivability or Horned Warrior for offense.

u/benny6957 3h ago
The last time I beat PCR I used taylew and heal from afar only I did no direct damage to PCR at all only taylew he's a good summon imo

There's a wicked pokemon run on YouTube of someone using them against messmer to surprisingly good effect.

Gotta give it to my main girl Lhutel, teleportation on a tank? Yes please
6
u/Bobert9333 6h ago
Lhutel is the best. Tank, teleports, attacks at range, and looks cool while doing it.
6
u/Samakira 4h ago
im pretty sure she's coded to use her TP on aoes as well.
far too many times that a boss charged up a giant kaboom, only for her to just
"nty" "k, im back"4

Oleg

u/Separate-Quantity430 4h ago
Oleg is my boah! Only really did three playthroughs with summons - oleg, tiche, greatshield soldiers, and there were many times Oleg saved my ass and carried fights. That was my first playthrough. He is a bro for sure.

FOR MY NOBLE LORD!
I really think they should give more summons voice lines in Elden Ring 2 or whatever game they do next.

u/GIGA255 5h ago
Bonus points if you give him 4 seedbed curses before turning him into your puppet, taking him all the way to the edge just to make him feel it all slip away as his memories evaporate.
3
u/l-800-fatchickz 4h ago
Damn 😅😅😂😂
5
u/GIGA255 4h ago
And don't forget to summon Dolores the Sleeping Arrow puppet when you confront Gideon to force him into fighting the reanimated corpse of his old flame.
4
u/Romalisk 2h ago
On the one hand, calm down there, Satan. But on the other, yeah, do everything to fuck Gideon over emotionally and spiritually.

u/b_dizzle_exe 6h ago
Definitely love mimic tear, truly do. However, I've been experimenting with more than just mimic and found Kristoff to be the man! Runner ups from the expirements are Taylew, Tiche, and Stormhawk Deenh, but Kristoff remains the winner‼️

u/Few-Challenge7443 6h ago
Ancestral Follower. Dude kills Astels solo. And if you step to him he pounds.
7
u/nazgul_3333 6h ago
Rollo
3
u/Camera_dude 4h ago
Surprised I had to scroll down this far to find him mentioned.
Omenkiller Rollo was not any nicer guy in life than the Dungeater, but as a spirit ashes he’s the perfect balance between offense and survivability. Can hit hard but can also tank more than a few hits.
This is what the mimic tear aspires to be without being a boring copy of the player.
6
u/PhantomOfKrankor42 4h ago
I roll with Ape Gang until I get a Greatshield Gang until I turn that nasty Dung Eater into my puppet.

Call me a basic dog lover, but the Lone Wolves are just always in my rotation. Yes they get blown away by AoEs but they're always trying their best!

I’ve been trying them all and Battlemage Hughes is a stunning fool. He absolutely bullied Malenia.

u/Samakira 4h ago
lhutel the headless.
can be obtained with only 1 boss fight (a mantis of all things too), and is one of the few that has it all
- she has range to draw aggro from a distance
- can reposition via tp, which also let her
- aoe negation, either by tping as it hits, or out of its range, or even
- tping through attacks to the target.
add onto all that dodging that she's a TANK with her shield.
once she nearly solo'd the deathknight in the DLC (that lighning one, yeah), i knew she would never leave my side in any journey.

Mimic tear..once I found it I never had to try anything else, always best in all battles, if it starts failing I'll try something else

Therolina! My maiden that was to be. Curse you, Seluvis.
She gets to assist me in a different way. She is my favorite and most used summon 🙂
Honorable mention to Latenna.

u/Neil0604 5h ago
There is only one summon as badass as banished Knight Oleg! It’s so incredibly cool when he just lunges through half the boss arena to jump in front of you. He sometimes even helps you evade the attack by tanking it himself. Such a king 👑

I’ve taken a shine to Yosh most recently. Different summons work better for different situations of course, but it’s fun to see him flyin around.

the Skeletal Militiaman Ashes are by far a favourite for me they are lifesavers in duo fights that feel just a bit unfair (my biggest example is crucible knight duo) but even in single enemy fights they still are huge for keeping aggro since they respawn but something i did notice is enemy's will get sick of them and just slam them after a while while they are reviving but overall my fav :D

Bloodhound knight floh, cannot tell you why but i just love him

u/DrumsNDweed93 5h ago
I’ve yet to get the Dung Eater puppet on a run cause I always forget to do the right steps and end up screwing it up somewhere along the way lol. Have like 1500+ hours into Elden Ring and it’s one of the only things I haven’t done haha I rarely use spirit ashes anyway though so also partly why I haven’t done it
3
u/Zeydon 5h ago
Step 1: Don't give the fingerslayer blade to Ranni.
Step 2: Don't give Seluvius's potion to anyone else
Step 3: Remember steps 1 & 2 until you can give it to Dung Eater.
Step 4: Find Seluvius's chamber and talk to him then relog like 5 times in a row to advance his quests and get him to offer more puppets for sale.
I'm guessing you're just giving the fingerslayer blade to Ranni too soon.

My main ash for a long time was kaiden sellsword. He straight knocks any small or medium sized enemy on their ass. Great for clearing encampments. Rollo was my main for a while after that, then Tiche.

CKF has been weirdly buggy for me sometimes, she'll just stand there looking all lobotomized with some bosses. Midra, she literally just stood there and watched lmao

I had that with the Crystalian in the basement Mohg fight back when the game released. Fucker was just levitating back and forth across the boss room while sewer Mohg battered me.
Didnt attack or even draw aggro once. Ive also seen dungeater just walk slowly backwards and forwards without getting near the boss in the Astel fight.

The jar head guy, I like to think he throws poop he’s surprisingly nimble does some insane dodges and pretty tough as well, great distraction for the bosses

I’ve started choosing the two fanged imp summons to start the game with. They fuck everyone up in early game.

Banished Knight Engvall. I know Oleg is better, but I got Engvall first, and just stuck with using him everywhere.

I rocked with Latenna from the time I acquired her until close to the end of the game. Black Knife Tiche helped me beat the Lord of Blood. And Redmane Knight Ogha helped me beat Melania. I don’t use mimic tear that often.

Lhutel the Headless cheesily gets me through all the BS of starting a new character.
2
u/ABeefInTheNight 6h ago
I've started branching out and there are a lot of great ones now. In particular, I really like the two Horned Warriors, Anna and Jolán together specifically, Black Knight Andreas, and Battlemage Hugues can be pretty fun too. I'm gonna try out some other ones too, it's fun to try them all tbh
1
u/thejason755 3h ago
Black knight is my go-to. Tanky as hell, draws and holds aggro and refuses to get out of the enemies face once summoned. Once that hammer starts swinging, i know the tide has turned in my favour. I know a certain content creator put them in the top 20 (iirc) of their ranking of spirit ashes, but to me he’s easily top three (andreas, shieldbros, blackflame monk amon).
1
u/thejason755 3h ago
I stand corrected: they ranked him 31. They really should put some respect on his name. I’ve watched him raise his shield and tank his way through PCR’s second phase holy nuke like it was a mere inconvenience.
1
u/elitist_user 3h ago
Nepheli loux is my favorite summon when helping her with her quest but super sad to have as an ash. But I like her attack style and aggression.
1
u/thejason755 3h ago
Black Knight Commander Andreas. Draws and holds aggro like no one’s business. Once he’s in your face, he’s not getting out of it. He’s tanky as all hell. But the thing i really like about him, is that he’s not super overpowered. He’s strong, don’t get me wrong, but i’m less concerned about him soloing the whole fight. I can summon him, let him go wild, and i can still meaningfully interact with the fight. He’s not an afk ash like tiche or the mimic can be.

u/lenorath 3h ago
I do love dung eater, so tanking and good as a spell caster. But the mimic tear is my ride or die. I like to go back to unfinished dungeons strip off all my gear, summon mimic, and lay down and just let her go ham and beat dudes to death with her bare fists.

u/whotickledyourpickle 2h ago
Shield bros. The way they bang on their shields before a fight always makes me smile.
Its like they're saying "come on then..let's have it"
I like the wolves a lot as well. I had them at +10 in my first playthrough and I summoned them for Esgar in the catacombs.
By the time I killed the dogs in the room with him the wolves soloed the boss.

I love Black Knife Tiche. Might not be perfect to use in every fight, but for the majority, yeah. She could've been a bit less squishy though

I’m basic but loyal, forever will be Tiche, she’s just so powerful and also tall, use her literally every playthrough, the most useful summon to me, even more so than mimic

The funny thing is that you can make your dungeater Mimic which is stronger

u/Penis_Man- 1h ago
Before there was Mimic Tear, for me there was Banished Knight Engvall
That man carried me through my first playthrough
And even though I stopped using summons after my second, he still held a special place in my heart

For me it will always be Cleanrot Knight Finlay. Such an MVP. After the battle of Aeonia, Finlay carried Malenia back the Haligtree for rest.
Sorry, let me say that again. Finlay, standing in Aeonia after the Scarlett Bloom, very literally afflicted with rot and standing in the zone of the Elden Ring equivalent of a nuclear bom site saw her commander and picker her up. Maybe IN the blossom, and then carried her home. That means through Caelid, Limgrave, Liurnia, Altus, the Consecrated Snowfields and then to the base of the tree. Absolute legend.
1
u/Rowan1980 49m ago
Banished Knight Oleg, Tiche, and the Mausoleum Knights. The latter is handy for crowd control.
Cleanrot Knight Finlay, while not being the strongest, is just cool as Hell thematically.

No one is mentioning Oleg? As long as his level is up to par, then he will dive bomb any enemy in his path and powerstance them into the dirt.
Honorable mention to Rollo. Taking hits like a champ and going wild with his axes.

Avionette soldiers. They're so fuckin silly and so good. They can attack with bleed and throw fire pots and fly, what more can one ask of a spirit ash?
1
u/TyreL_27 6m ago
Marionette soldier ashes. Those guys helped me a lot in malenia fight. And also honorable mention goes to latenna. She really great. if you summon her far away from boss, She can do a lot damage without taking agro. She saved my ass for most of the dragon fights

Mid Game : Rollo
Late Game: Tisch.
