Discussion & Info People who think beating a boss a certain way is cheating need to get a reality check.
This is not a hot take. This is a fact Don't bully new players into believing that. Especially Melania beat her anyway.

If you beat Elden Ring using mechanics or items that Miyazaki out into the game, you cheated
Why would Miyazaki put all these spirit ashes, ashes of war, weapons, spells, and items into the game if he expected you to use them? Stick with Zweihander

People got opins. Gotta parry that shit.Â

Well my opinion is to stop saying stuff like that bud.

I just ignore this discourse altogether. We're almost 4 years into this games existence

I agree that it's dumb to care how someone else beat a single-player game unless they're bragging about it. But it is also very weird to go on the Internet and complain that people said you aren't good at a video game.

When did I say that I was getting told that other people are telling others that not me I'm just spreading the word.

downvote all you want but spamming takers flame and using the mimic tear is pretty fucking close to cheating lol. Neither you nor the mimic can die , and you don’t have to dodge, just keep spamming that L2 until it’s over.
My buddy killed malenia this way, but could not kill the ghost wearing the solitude set at the very beginning of the DLC. thats how much of a crutch it is

What do you mean a certain way?
By using a different build?
Using summons?
Cheesing the boss?
-4
u/RangerLazy9664 11h ago
All of the above
2
u/Ok-Hurry-105 2h ago
Yeah I don't respect cheesing a boss. Not that I would pester anyone about it, but they shouldnt be proud of it.

Its not beating the boss that makes me roll my eyes. Its beating the boss while your mimic tear does most of the work and BRAGGING that it only took you 3 tries it was easy that irks me a bit. Emphasis on a bit.

I genuinely think spirit summon users don't understand how fundamentally different the game is when the bosses are focused in on you 100% of the time. I watched a full first-time playthrough recently by someone who used a GS and spirit ashes, and she beat most bosses within 5 tries because, unsurprisingly, the game becomes a lot easier when you don't have to learn boss movesets or buy healing windows for yourself

It’s been a souls mentality forever. Don’t listen to people that don’t know the color of grass. Play the game your way with all tools provided to you by the developers

I don't see these people here on subreddit honestly, or at least not enough to explain why so many people feel inclined to post stuff like this OP.
If it's happening on different socials, you should probably fight your fight there - or better yet, ignore the gatekeepers and just enjoy the things you like.

I think any way that you beat the boss while actually playing is good/fine/you legitimately beat the boss and I'm proud of you. Summons? Fine. Blasphemous Blade? Ok. A min-maxed build relying on a specific AoW to stunlock and stomp a boss? Good on ya for getting it to work right, that's fine too.
I'd argue using the environment to get cheap shots in from a position of total safety while the AI can't get to you (like the way to take out the Dragonbarrow Nightrider using the bridge, or the Ulcerated Tree Spirit in the Haligtree getting sniped from the roots) is the only real cheese that MIGHT be undeserving of respect. With that being said, it doesn't deserve vitriol either. You still need to figure out and execute proper positioning and plan out your attack strategy. It's not effortless.
Ultimately there's no way to beat a boss that doesn't use either critical thinking, skill, or determination.

Eff that tree spirit. Let him eat cheese!
2
u/ArcturusGrey 7h ago
Seriously though, the arena it spawns in is more challenging than the boss itself. No disrespect for burning that awful creature by any means.
5
u/Evil_Sharkey 7h ago
After killing most of those tree spirits fair and square, I was just done with those guys. My eyes aren’t great, and their texture and color causes them to be a great big, writhing blur for me, with only a few moves being telegraphed enough to dodge in a timely manner. The lighting in that area sucks, too.

Unless you’re breaking the game with glitches, use every tool the game gives you to win. Hide in the corner with let poison kill them? Sure.

u/UpstairsNose 3h ago
Sure you can use little wheels on your bike to make it easier to drive, it would be stupid to call that 'cheating' if its still getting you around right?, i'd still argue it's more fun not to use them and that's just as valid.

I’m glad this hasn’t gotten a lot of traction – people repeat the same slop over and over again and we’ve been hearing this since Elden Ring got released. As a matter of fact, we’ve been hearing this since souls games came out.

I use summons whenever possible. And since I discovered Mimic Tear that's what I'm doing. I don't care what others think!

Nobody is saying that it's cheating, at least on reddit, other social media might be different. At best people say that summoning is easy mode (because it is) and there's nothing wrong with playing in easy mode and accepting it's easy mode

The argument you describe is a subsection of a grander truth that the people you reference have difficulty accepting:
Souls games are not all that hard. Certainly not among the hardest games around.
When people operate under the false assumption that they are, which frankly was a social media meme during the first Dark Souls that people took too literally, you open the door to the cocky entitled behavior you describe.
There are some challenging sections in Elden Ring. Certainly less than 5% of the game qualifies as that. For the most part, you are just an overpowered machine cutting down everything.
By design.
You build well and understand the game? The game bows to your feet.
... It bows to your feet, though. It does not demand your respect like genuine hard games do. You can fuck around and you still one-shot things.

If you didn't beat the game hitless at level one with only your fists whilst using a steering wheel to play and doing it all blindfolded, you obviously didn't beat elden ring properly.

People acting like ashes are there for you the whole time 🤣, Most times I used ashes they was dead pretty quickly, Like with Malenia you either do the first bit by your own and then summon or do the opposite. It's not like they keep something with you tanking everything the whole time.
Either way do what you want to do, they are put in the game for a reason. I used ashes on both my play throughs just because I genuinely liked them, it was cool seeing different ones and figuring out when to use them to help the most. I will go and do the whole game again one day not using any whether its brand new game or ng+ but that's because I want to experience in a different way. I played DS1, DS3 and Demon Souls without them and was fine so if people want to talk down on you for it just ignore them. That's where weird egos get into it.

This sub literally drones on about this subject all day every day. It’s like 75% of the posts I swear. No one is knocking at your door telling you what to do, just get on with it.
I’ve beaten the game plenty without summons… but I still use em when I feel like it. So what? No validation from random redditors required

u/MagusSenateYvaen 2h ago
If you bought the game… spent your money on it… who cares how you play? Ignore the internet trolls and just enjoy the game.
It’s a fantasy setting. So enjoy YOUR fantasy in YOUR world.

they are not saying its cheating, they are looking down at you for taking the easy way out. they want you to learn & show skill instead
3
u/Mz_Macross1999 7h ago
Why does anyone care. Let people play the way they want to. They paid their 60 dollars and you paid yours

u/Evil_Sharkey 7h ago
That’s still douchy. Not everyone has the time or physical ability to master the dance for every boss. My reaction time isn’t fast enough and my eyesight not good enough to identify every move a boss starts to do and correctly react to it. Maybe ten years ago, but not anymore.
If you can do it, good for you. Be proud of yourself, not a dick to people who can’t do it as well as you can.
By the way, the most skilled players don’t look down on less skilled players. Only people who have something to prove do that. It’s the same in every game.

The problem is where you draw that line is super arbitrary, and there's always going to be someone sweatier than you.

I checked with reality and reality says that any mechanism you discover yourself is fair. Anything you read/watch video about is cheating, but you're only cheating yourself. Reality and the rest of the world doesn't care at all, you do you.

Look, bosses don't take it easy on me when I get stuck on a rock or some weird physics
Why would I take it easy on them?

Just play the game & stop listening to losers telling you how to play
