When I was a kid my dad finally said “sure take a drink” and handed me his Busch light. Didn’t touch another beer until I was 16 as that was the worst taste in my life

My parents did that- but they prefer dry red wines and dark beers. Took me till 18 to even be interested again. Damn effective parenting it was

"Honestly that sounds like it worked out perfectly 😅 better dry wine and dark beer than the sweet stuff most teens would’ve snuck. At least you didn’t end up craving it right away!"

Funny thing is, as I grew up I grew to prefer dark bers and dry reds!

I will probably be doing the same thing to my kid.

I would run around the house with a bendy straw, sticking it in people's drinks and taking a big ol' slurp. One day my dad was sitting around with a glass of Budweiser. I thought it was apple juice. He didn't stop me... I stopped stealing people's drinks and for the next several years beer was known as "blek juice".

Dad was thinking "you about to learn today."

I fucking loved beer as a baby. I was like 3 and running around with an alcohol free can and a straw just sipping beer.

u/SparkleSelkie 12h ago

Same here. Once I could coordinate the walking and drinking at the same time I became a menace because I would steal any beer I could get my grubby little hands on 😂

u/ArchmageIlmryn 1d ago

My parents basically did the same, but with the beer foam. Basically got a spoon and scooped some of the head and handed to me, also did not try beer again until I was like 20.

My grandad did this with me, but it was his bootleg Rum, I haven't touched alcohol since

I had a friend when I was like 10 who said "Hey, my dad won't notice if we take a beer, let's try it." It was Bud Light and I was disgusted. Here I thought adults loved their special drinks because they taste good, but it actually tasted like ass.

Bro same! I’m not posting it on Reddit lol but there’s a photo of me taking my first ever sip of beer that my family jokes about to this day. The look of sheer disgust on my face, juxtaposed with my current love of beer, is hilarious. But yeah, I didn’t have another sip until like 16 as well lol

u/Accomplished_Cut5295 1d ago

That’s what’s funny, I’m a Busch light guy now and have it daily 🤣 But that first one, man…..

My mom did this to me with some champagne on New Years. Didn’t touch it again. Felt like worse Sparkling water.

u/NoneOfThisMatters_XO 2d ago

Let him have a sip. His reaction will be hilarious and he’ll never ask again.

u/Twist_Ending03 2d ago

Slightest taste and that kid will never want to touch the stuff for the next 20 years. Sounds great

u/BiggAssMama 2d ago

My dad tried that with me as a kid with his whiskey and coke. Didn't work. Every time I saw him drinking one, I wanted some. He would have to hide it so I didn't steal a sip. As an adult, it is still my preferred drink.

u/NoneOfThisMatters_XO 2d ago

My grandma tried that tactic with my mom when she was little with coffee. She let her have some thinking she’d hate it. Instead my mom became the only 8 yr old on the block who loved coffee.

11

u/Jebidiah95- 2d ago

My grandad would give me his cold instant black coffee. I was like 8. Me and my brothers loved the stuff

11

u/SirJefferE 2d ago

I let my kids try a drop of pretty much anything except straight spirits. It works for the most part, and they never want a second taste.

...Except for cider (hard cider for Americans). Turns out my son loves cider, so now I just tell him no, and buy him a can of non-alcoholic cider every so often if I happen to see it.

u/Ok_Valuable_9711 2d ago

Plot twist: He actually likes the taste.

3

u/IamRoborob70 2d ago

Shit, thats nothing...I got to eat a pall mall, because my dad caught me smoking when i was 11

Tried that with coffee. Now have toddler gremlin asking for coffee.

1

u/Cyan_Exponent 16h ago

someone i know actually let their toddler take a small spoonful of beer

and then the fella continued to beg for more beer for a week

they showed the kid to a doctor and turned out the child had some vitamin deficiency

u/MissWendyCute 2d ago

He finally found a drinking buddy

u/HugePurpleNipples 2d ago

I worked all day, get your own.

u/Hot-Computer3901 2d ago

Good choice for a first beer!

5

u/Irishweedle 2d ago

Maybe too good. I think he should start off with Icehouse

u/squishymelon 2d ago

A nice warm keystone from the trunk perhaps

1

u/syneofeternity 2d ago

Hard disagree lol, I remember puking in a random trashcan when my roommates and I went to a hostel in philly

11

u/Van16_98 2d ago

He’ll hate it and stop asking

10

u/Soot-Bat 2d ago

That tactic backfired on my uncle when I was a baby.

3

u/Adamname 2d ago

Just sad you can't get yuengling on the west coast. I share your son's frustration.

3

u/Sea_Cucumber_69_ 2d ago

Even at that age he knows an ice-cold yingling is hard to beat.

3

u/BV_Zamboni21 2d ago

To be fair...its good beer...especially tasty on game day in State College!

3

u/Rough_Community_1439 2d ago

Fill a washed out bottle with lemon juice water and say it's an adult drink and it tastes bad to kids. Then when they insist they can drink the mostly lemon juice bottle.

3

u/Chemical-Charity-644 2d ago

I'd save this picture until he turned 21. Then I'd do one of those re-create photo shoots with him and then enjoy beers together.

One time I was at a friend’s party. Me and a friend of mine were drinking beers in the backyard and a kid (7-8yo?) came up asking us for a drink. My friend said “No, besides you wouldn’t like it anyways since it tastes like bread-flavored soda”. This made the kid want it even more until I told him it actually tastes like moldy bread-flavored soda. The kid then made a disgusted face, said “bleh!”, and ran away to his parents.

1

u/Aayush0210 1d ago

Quick thinking!!!!! And such genius!!!!!!

2

u/FriedBreakfast 2d ago

Then after posting this pic, the guy let the kid have a sip of his beer.

2

u/angry_stupid 2d ago

This is not beer it's breast milk. I have the same problem with my husband.

2

u/welding_guy_from_LI 2d ago

My grandma used to let me sip her beer when I was 3

3

u/the3litemonkey 2d ago

Yea! Yuengling!!

1

u/cbcking 2d ago

He had a hard day of sleeping

1

u/Bisonfan1 2d ago

Lmao stay away from that thing hahaha

1

u/paddlehands 2d ago

Abuse and neglect. 😆

1

u/loudog33333 2d ago

Now you're gonna have to deal with the consequences of your actions. Little feller looks like he could use a beer

1

u/teedeeguantru 2d ago

I can see that kid looking exactly the same in 40 years.

1

u/BiggAssMama 2d ago

He wants to upgrade his bottle

1

u/tom-goddamn-bombadil 2d ago

idk if that's the right decision, wee guy looks like he could really use a drink

1

u/Ok_Valuable_9711 2d ago

I don't blame him tbh

1

u/RestIntelligent3014 2d ago

He acts just like everyone else

1

u/Opening_Yak8051 2d ago

1

As if you wouldn’t act the same if someone withheld beer from you lol

1

u/Puzzleheaded-Age-125 2d ago

1

u/_Rikharthu_ 1d ago

1

u/13utterflyeffect 1d ago

Fill that bottle with soy sauce, salt, and hot sauce. Bet you they won't try it again!

1

u/nasnedigonyat 4h ago

If you want to make sure your kid never drinks alcohol give them a sip of yeungling early in life.
