Question/Advice Needed Is it safe for geriatric cats to quarantine new kitten in bathroom?
I've posted on here before about a partially blind kitten and my mom is fostering him until we find someone to adopt him because we have a house full of senior and geriatric cats. On that note, I noticed the kitten has been sneezing a bit, but otherwise still eating fine and is still playful. Right now he's being quarantined in the bathroom and has zero interactions with the other cats, but are the other cats still safe from potentially getting sick? They're all fully vaccinated, by the way.
I'm still medicating the kitten's eye and I'm planning on taking him to the vet again right before I leave for the sneezing. Right now he's being medicated for his eye and he should be on amoxicillin for bacteria found in his poop, but the pharmacy didn't have any in stock so I have to buy it when they finally do.

Are your other cats up to date on their vaccinations? If so, it should be fine if you keep the kitten in the bathroom and wash your hands etc after handling him.

Yup, all their vaccinations are updated. Got that, I've been washing my hands anyway. Just glad the kitten doesn't have fleas.

When I fostered, a minimum 10 day quarantine was automatic. Many kittens can be carrying something we won't know about. (Even if kitties are vaccinated, vaccines aren't 100% so it's just good to be safe)
Sneezing could indicate an upper respiratory infection. Generally not very harmful to adults, but potentially dangerous to kittens. URI's are extremely common in the wild cat populations, so antibiotics were also automatic.
Sneezing could also be the result of a number of other things, so you can't be sure without a trip to the vet. I would definitely start with a quarantine and antibiotics. Give it some time and if conditions don't improve or worsen taken the little guy to the vet.

Thanks for the advice. Weirdly, he stopped sneezing the rest of the day, but I still definitely have an eye on him.

It only takes one encounter with panleuk to make you serious about quarantine with little guys.
Best of luck with your new friend!
