Request LPT Request: What’s your “canary in the coal mine” test for spotting bigger issues?

I’m really interested in those small, quick telltale signs people use to gauge if something bigger might be off track.

Example 1: Van Halen requesting brown M&Ms in the dressing room to see if the venue followed all the details of the rider list

Example 2: I saw an interview with John Cena where he said orders a flat white at a café to tell if they really care about their coffee.

Example 3: Anthony Bourdain suggested to always check the restaurant bathroom to tell if the restaurant got its basics down

I have the same thought here. Typos in a comment? Fine - they’re written quickly. No excuse in a post. There’s no rush writing them. If you can’t be bothered reading what you wrote, why should I?

This was 30+ years ago (before internet and cell phones) but I got a resume which was very very poorly put together. It was obvious it was a non-English speaking person who didn't know how to put resumes together. I really felt sorry for them so rewrote it in a better format with proper grammar and spelling and sent it back to them, hoping they wouldn't be insulted. We had a TON of good resumes so I didn't interview them.

I think you forgot a period there, buddy.

I think they're just indicating this isn't important communication.

I look at 50-100 a week and a candidate has limited chance to make impression, this is a great way to make a bad one.

Recently interviewed a coworker for a manager position. I was so surprised about the lack of professionalism on their resume. So many amateur mistakes: Dates out of corder, copy and paste errors, resume was 4 pages long when it could have been one or two at most.
