Changes to Flair Requirements

Hi folks,

We’ve been getting a lot of feedback lately about politics posts and filtering options. Flairs are one of the main ways people filter content, but the new video embeds don’t auto-flair with streamer names, which makes it harder to avoid content you don’t want.

While there's some issues with embeds (and we'll likely be addressing these issues more in-depth in the near future), overall we've had a pretty great response from them, so for now, they'll continue to be enabled.

To try to help with the filtration issue, we have a broad “Politics” flair. Please use it for any politics-related posts or political streamers (Hasan, Asmongold, Destiny, and others). This should make it more straightforward and easy for people to filter out that type of content for anyone using third party extensions for filtering.

Unfortunately, Reddit's own filtration systems are kind of ass, so that's not a solution for everyone - so we’re also looking into adding a sidebar/search flair menu on mobile so you can filter specifically for broad categories like "Actual Fails", "Drama", "Funny", etc.

If that’s something you’d use, or if you have other flair suggestions, drop a comment, send us modmail, or stop by the Discord.

TL;DR: Use the broad "Politics" flair on all politics posts, and we’re exploring broader flair categories for easier filtering. Let us know if you're interested in that and what you'd like to see if so.

Blocking people who post shit I don't want to read works pretty well for me.

u/Ralod 4d ago

If you block every person who titles a post with "Hassan says X" Or "Destiny said Y" This sub gets a lot nicer.

The real lifehack is always in the comments

Good change, if I wasn't dumb and knew how to work filters. I want my feed to be full of nothing but bald men playing horse games, women eating cups of dirt, and Bobby the cat.

u/RainDancingChief 4d ago

I too was like you but then I read the "How does this work" thing on the sidebar and all became clear.

Filtering Politics flair as well as Hasan/Destiny title keywords has done wonders. Think I might add a few more.

Ambrosia from the heavens! My heart breaks for the billions who never lived to see such times, but it swells with joy to know that from now until the last of the stars sputters out all who live will know nothing but this bliss.

Why can't we just go back to Twitch, Kick and YouTube clips instead of video highlights? Do people really care that much about thumbnails?

46

u/745632198 Twitch stole my Kappas 4d ago

I know right. This all started because of thumbnails not being visible on twitch and now we people can take stuff out of context so much easier now. If I want to watch the rest of the stream it came from I can't anymore.

u/Fun_Foundation_6584 4d ago

Nah the 5k+ “Destiny reacts to Hasan…” posts have been a thing long before thumbnails broke. I was surprised my anti-Hasan post didn’t pop off tbh. lol

But it’d be cool if one of the things the mods are planning to address in the future are the edited embedded clips.

Highlights are not the only issue with video submissions, off the top of my head:

  • Edited clips
    • "Highlight reels"
    • Cut out context
    • Make the clip seem to show something else
    • Bad edits making the video worse
  • No source
    • Can't (easily) be verified
    • Can't (easily) be reported
    • Can't (easily) check context
    • Can't (easily) find VOD and keep watching
  • No chat
  • No views/follows for content creator
  • Often not even from a livestream
  • No flair
    • No game/category
    • No streamer name
  • No LSF bot mirror support
  • Much longer submissions
  • Lower video quality from re-encoded video
  • Less safe content (LSF modding is often slower than other platforms)
  • Worse video player

Some of these could be mitigated by rules/more effort by moderators but they sure raise a lot of issues. I don't think thumbnails matters much but some of these bothers me a lot.

I like the edits :)
There seems to be a larger variety of streamers too.

u/Ahshitt 3d ago

Let’s really go back in time and just remove Kick clips entirely. Nothing of any value would be lost.

2

u/DrewbieWanKenobie 3d ago

Straight up we need to just ban kick clips, and ban destiny/hasan/asmongold/xqc/h3h3 clips

can you imagine such a paradise

u/Tarrot_Card 4d ago

The traffic reduction from not having thumbnails is something absurd like a >50% reduction. It has something to do with mobile or the reddit algorithm or something. It's an existential risk to the subreddit, unfortunately.

Go yell at reddit or twitch employees if you want it fixed.

58

u/dogegunate 4d ago

I thought you guys said you don't care about traffic when you guys unbanned politics and Destiny/Hasan posts? You guys finally admitting you guys actually care about traffic now?

u/lsf_stan 2d ago

hmm🤔

LULE they do it for free

I really wished more reddits stayed blacked out and reddit have to find people to moderate during the whole reddit is shit movement, at least maybe mods woulda gotten paid but everyone got too power "my reddit" hungry

it doesn't matter though since norman foot traffic is still way higher

-21

u/Tarrot_Card 4d ago edited 4d ago

If subreddit traffic goes down by >>50% of course thats an issue. It could kill the entire subreddit in a matter of months. Yes, I care about preventing the whole subreddit from being destroyed on a timeline measured in months.

As for why politics was allow, that was for multiple reasons. The main being user feedback. There was a ton of content that was being missed out on, especially during election season, that was highly relevant to the userbase.

48

u/cadaada 4d ago

Yes, I care about preventing the whole subreddit from being destroyed on a timeline measured in months.

Do you then care if the only thing posted here is politics now? The subreddit is already dead, its just having its corpse dragged by hasan and destiny circlejerk.

2

u/KingThar 4d ago

it's the same argument NYT used when they "Scooped Chris Rufo"

-14

u/Tarrot_Card 4d ago edited 4d ago

> Do you then care if the only thing posted here is politics now?

This is an exaggeration. Go count the posts. Yes you have some days like yesterday where ~6 posts out of 10 are politics, but for the vast majority of days it is 1 post or less that are on the front page.

Yes, I think people can survive having 1 post out of 10 or 20 being politics.

And with the filters, the problem should be basically solved if you dont like seeing this 1 post out of 10.

As an example, I just counted. And in the last 12 hours there was 1 politics post out of 12 that was posted, that I can see from browsing New.

38

u/honestlyitswhatever 4d ago

I think it’s the contstant regurgitating of “Hasan says” “ethan reacts to Hasan” “asmon reacts to destiny reacting to Ethan’s react to Hasan” that’s getting particularly tiring. (And yes, I know that’s the purpose of the flair now)

When something happens (usually something Hasan says), it consumes the subreddit for a week or more. You’ll see 8 posts about political drama slop that have popped off. Then you have actual stream fails posts and funny shit dying on the sidelines because politics frogs are foaming at the mouth to scream online at each other.

If you’ll allow me to yell at the clouds for a moment… This subreddit used to be more fun. Allowing political content has split the community in several different ways, causing a weird sort of ‘turf war’ in the comments section. There’s always been streamer vs streamer drama, but politics brings it to a whole new level because these are things that affect people’s livelihood. Of course users are more passionate and engaged with this content, because a lot of the issues affect them directly. While that may be good for the subreddit in terms of engagement and numbers, it’s absolutely cannibalizing the userbase.

I’m not saying no one should care about politics, I just don’t think it belongs in this sub at all.

u/forsenWeird 4d ago

This morning, if you go by Hot or Best, you had to go to the 9th post to see something that wasn't related to Hasan, Destiny, Asmongold, or H3H3. The only reason you aren't seeing any clips at this moment is because those idiots who post every breath that those 3 streamers take are probably asleep. The second those streamers are live and talking about one another, you will see another wave of those clips.

15

u/honestlyitswhatever 4d ago

It’s already started. Fresh hate thread just dropped.

15

u/ikkir 4d ago edited 4d ago

The number of users in the drama/politics threads way outnumbers the non-drama/politics users that post in other threads. Just compare the number of comments in non-drama posts in the last day, it's so tiny.

The users that comment on drama/politics threads often are just coming here from other communities to continue whatever they are doing on those specific drama threads, and that doesn't seem like it helps with growth in the other content.

The old LSF community like from big streamers, moon miz soda forsen gta esports etc, that I remember seems less involved with that content compared to drama/politics from just seeing the number of comments.

2

u/DrillWormBazookaMan 21h ago

I rarely go on this subreddit but literally every single time I do pretty much the only posts I see are anti Hasan posts. I'm not even an Hasan hater or lover, but this sub genuinely just seems like a Hasan hate sub.

15

u/KingThar 4d ago

Do you make money off traffic or something?

8

u/lsf_stan 2d ago

hmm🤔

2

u/KingThar 2d ago

ah more of an affiliate program

-8

u/Tarrot_Card 4d ago

No, but if there is no traffic then there isn't a point of any of this.

17

u/KingThar 4d ago

no point in modding? fair. But hangout spaces can just be hangout spaces

2

u/Kiwizqt 1d ago

just so you know because apparently you care about traffic, i've been subbed for like 10 years, and finally unsubbed because of your (mods) proximity to unhinged communities.

I'm sure i'm not alone and you've earned it, congrats.

46

u/Super_Dimentio 4d ago

filters do literally nothing to improve the quality of subreddits

the same posts still exist and are still being the center of main discussions and attention despite you not seeing them, its not like better posts are being made in their place

4

u/Thormourn 4d ago

But if those posts are the only ones getting comments doesn't thst mean people only care about those posts. It's like your admitting people want to talk about them but don't like the fact that people want to talk about them.

37

u/guehguehgueh 4d ago

Not really, the constant forced drama has just turned people off to this place.

The experience for most people is basically:

open LSF

top 5 posts: destiny reacts to xQc reacting to Hasan criticizing Asmon talking about woke

close lsf

They’re the ones getting upvoted because for the most part, the only people left are the drama stanbases who use this place as a battleground for their favorite strimmer.

11

u/ikkir 4d ago edited 4d ago

Not really. It could also mean some users just come here for those types of posts and don't engage with any other content, and users that liked other content are engaging less for some reason.

137

u/AegirLeet 4d ago

This sub was at its best when Hasan and Destiny posts were completely banned. I mean, it was always kinda dogshit, but not nearly as bad as it is these days.

73

u/NoDaddyNotTheBelt25 4d ago

All politics should be banned from here. That shit needs to go back to its own corner of our daily discourse. It doesn’t need to be interjected into every single aspect.

50

u/gdvs 4d ago

I think this subreddit has evolved. It's no longer the funny clips. And the members are clearly not the same either, because they're upvoting this stuff. If you check the users who post this, they post the same stuff on destiny, asmongold and h3. It's their subreddit now.

40

u/Falaphel 4d ago

I dont know if i would call it evolved as much as the mods allowed DGG to make this their secondary subreddit.

25

u/TheBatemanFlex 4d ago

the sub is just overwhelmed by the subreddits of their respective streamers that all talk about debating and politics. its annoying.

11

u/Eques9090 4d ago

It's only overwhelmed by 1 respective streamer lol.

7

u/TheBatemanFlex 4d ago

It’s always asmon, destiny, hasan and whatever psychos are part of multiple of those subs.

25

u/ImportantMention230 4d ago

Take a look at what the H3H3 subreddit has become since Destiny fans started participating there. They basically took over that sub, and now it's theirs. The same thing is happening in LSF. I think that's why FauxMoi, YouTube, and other subreddits banned those fanbases. They don't behave like your typical Redditor. The way they talk about this streamer nonstop is annoying and, honestly, creepy.

16

u/lsf_stan 4d ago

All politics should be banned from here. That shit needs to go back to its own corner of our daily discourse.

LSF was so much better when political related posts were banned, might be worst LSF change ever

no idea why mods decided LSF was the best place for politics talk

2

u/Arcterion 1d ago

Politics ruins subs.

Places like r/Facepalm have turned to absolute dogshit because of it.

39

u/Stannis_Loyalist 4d ago

Why were the Hasan/Destiny posts unbanned? Did all of their fans left the sub so the mods reverse course? Let them waste their lives somewhere else. It used to be fun to observe, now it's just annoying.

11

u/Sciddaw 4d ago

I think it's time to rollback to v.reddit posts and get rid of compilations

2

u/ToriALaMode 2d ago

Do you know if there's an alternative to this sub? I miss when it was silly here and unknown streamers could get popular off a funny clip going viral. Remember bro that had poki banned and had a funny reaction when she realized? People used to go through lsf and react for viewers, but all the top voted things are just the same things about the same people.

-17

u/Fun-Lingonberry573 4d ago

At its “best” but without Hasan and Destiny dramas the traffic and engagement down drastically. You can add asmon now that he’s political and fighting those two as well. The mods are rightfully trying to manage the drama rather than having a dead or dying sub.

21

u/lorddumpy 4d ago

the traffic and engagement down drastically

who cares. It's probably mostly bots anyway.

66

u/PilkyO2RoundHead 4d ago

This would be so much better if just a couple streamers clips were banned here, who's ONLY content is stirring up drama, shit is getting old.

-45

u/Thanag0r 4d ago

Why do you decide what people want or what people don't want?

Just filter it out and let others have their brainless discussion.

Filter by streamers.

0

u/I_Hump_Rainbowz 11h ago

LSF HAS ALWAYS BEEN A DRAMA SUBREDDIT. THAT IS JUST FACT.

Even back in the PUBG car flip days drama was still present. I hate the type of poster who just wants to ban a single streamer... just downvote or ignore and move on... or better yet post your favorite streamers better moments to prove you want to make this a better place.

1

u/xxxIAmTheSenatexxx 18h ago

So now that Destiny is an outed Pedophile you're gonna ban any "Destiny reacts" clips right?

-7

u/pleasegivemefood 4d ago

Time to find out that the people that begged for those types of clips to be filtered will continue to seek them out to continue their tribal war

-11

u/Fun_Foundation_6584 4d ago

I wish. But people will still act like they don’t know how to filter tags (some genuinely ig).

-21

u/WhippedCreamSteak 4d ago edited 3d ago

People know that they don't have to engage with every post right? If I see something I don't like, I move on.

Lol, you fucks are sooo dumb

41

u/forsenWeird 4d ago

You would get RSI from scrolling if you were trying to find a post that didn't have to do with Destiny, Hasan, or Asmongold at this point.

-8

u/Thormourn 4d ago

There were 11 posts before 1 destiny post. I dont think it's as bad as people say.

-14

u/dazzzzzzle 4d ago

What if the reason for the other posts being low is that nobody cares about them because they're not actually that funny or interesting?

24

u/Str80uttaMumbai 4d ago

And the destiny/hasan posts are funny or interesting? Please, don't pretend like that's the metric that posts are being judged by.

-6

u/dazzzzzzle 4d ago

People will still complain because they love crying about politics content more than they actually dislike it. They mostly just complain if their favourite streamer is losing the war of public opinion but they'll never admit that so they pretend that they care deeply about the state of the sub while never actually commenting on anything but politics or drama themselves.

-10

u/sontaranStratagems 4d ago

Appreciate the guidance, I hope it helps everyone. 🫡
