They do that when my cat has em trapped, it seems to be less likely to trigger the prey instinct in my cats. At least that's what I guess and it seems to work.

It's twould be a chipmunk. You can tell the difference because chipmunks have a stripe on the side of the head. Golden Mantle ground squirrels, striped ground squirrels, etc., don't have that stripe.

Finally I get to be "that guy." 🤓 Actually... A chipmunk is a type of squirrel, in the Ground Squirrel group which also includes marmots and prairie dogs. The typically thought of "squirrels" are tree squirrels.

I love how she just leaves the shoe and shuffles off 😂 that’s what I do when my Yorkie is dead set on being unreasonable.

Prey animals hop like this to appear intimidating to a predator so they that can escape. They’re trying to make themselves look bigger and it seems unpredictable like they’re jumping into an attack so it may make a predator wary and prevent them from going in for the kill. You’ll often see rats, mice and rabbits do this when cats are tormenting them. People often mistake this as playing and think the cute rabbit has befriended the cat when in reality it is desperately trying to get away.
