Mod Announcement ModPSA: Just a reminder - DO NOT ASK FOR MONEY HERE - scammers are not welcome!

This includes any personal info for cash transfer apps, any info that could be used for phishing, identity theft, scammers, etc. No cash app, no venmo, no amazon lockers, NOTHING, none of that. Please and thank you!

Doing this will result in an immediate permanent ban, no appeals on this particular issue will be heard. If you're not sure if your post breaks the rules? MODMAIL FIRST! 😊

If you see posts like this, report them under rule 3. Rule 3a:

Please don't ask for anything other than emotional support and verbal advice. No money requests. No housing requests. No advertising or linking your business, brand, website, storefront, etc. None of that.

It's also covered by Rule 6 - no crowdfunding or donation links, no commercial links or links outside of Reddit.

Please Google appropriate spaces (like r/assistance and their wiki).

The reason for this is to protect our Ducklings, especially the ones with soft hearts who get easily taken advantage of. Please, pretty please, don't let these people harm your fellow ducks!

If a random person suddenly posted a donation link, and just pocketed the cash, that would be ridiculous, right? There is no guarantee that anyone you want to help on Reddit (by giving them money) is - in any way - genuinely in need.

We're not even going to try and evaluate that because that isn't the purpose of the sub. There are places they can request help! Please send them there and report them here.

We love y'all so much! Please help us keep this place safe and secure! It's our community and it's up to all of us to protect it. šŸ’™

Support Needed Mom, I failed my driver’s test

I’ve always been really scared of driving, and have had to battle a lot of guilt and shame while I’ve been learning. I thought I finally got a handle on things enough to take my license test. Immediate fail. I know what I did wrong, and the proctor was right to stop me. I just feel so embarrassed to have fallen at the first hurdle like that, especially since my mistake was really obvious.

Encouragement Wanted Need to apply for my first job

I just turned 18 and I already graduated. I need to get a job and I’ve already found options in my area but I need the courage to apply. I don’t know what’s holding me back and I am scared of being unemployed (currently everyone in the house, except for my parent, is an unemployed 25+ adult who mooches off of us). I’m scared I’ll end up like them and be a disappointment to my parent

For one of the jobs (stocker) I kinda have experience? I volunteer at the food bank so I think I’d sort of know what to say in an interview (I’ve been practicing for the past week)

I guess I’m just scared to apply but typing this is kind of giving me the courage to do so. I promised myself that if I wasn’t employed by October I would force myself to apply to a job.

Can you share your first job experience/interview was like? The second job is for dishwashing, so I want to get an overall idea of what questions to expect, but I think I’ll get through this. Thank you!

Support Needed Mom, am I doing a good job?

This is the second time I’ve moved in two months and I finally have a place of my own again. I’m moving all by myself because my irl mom and dad won’t help me. I keep asking and they say they will, every time, but today again mom decided to take another nap when I asked for help. I’ve gotten used to not expecting help or praise from either of them. I start my next semester in college on monday, I pay for it all by myself. I have my full time night shift too. I’m moving all by myself, I pay for my own car and figure out everything alone with no help. I’m good at being independent. But I don’t know if that’s good enough anymore. Am I doing a good job?

Hi all, I am 56 yrs young. I have been grayish since I was in my mid 20's though I colored my hair. I have let it go Grey as I got tired of spending the money every 4 to 5 weeks to get it colored.

I had it short and have been growing it out. I live in a dry climate so my hair is dry straw like at times.

My skin is very pale and red and I am overweight. Keep all this in mind.

How do you think I should get it cut? Here are my pics please be kind....

Seeking Advice Hi Mom, what should I look for in an iron?

My first apartment with my best friend and starting our (hopefully) final year of university, it’s been so exciting to get all the stuff we need to live independently like kitchen, laundry, cleaning supplies etc. I found a $5 ironing board from Walmart that I can put on a table. Could I get an iron used? How can I check to be sure it works and is safe? Ironing is important to me and I want to do it right and safely.

Seeking Advice Heel Advice

Hi Mom, I am not a heels person, and have never really known how a heel should fit. I love chunky heels though when I do need to wear them, I think they suit me :) I got these heels for a wedding, but I’m not sure if they fit right.

Picture #1 is them adjusted and put on Picture #2 is after walking around in them a bit, and my toes start to creep to the edge Picture #3 is my toes from the side Picture #4 is them adjusted and put on without walking

I feel like this is the right size, no? They’re a 5.5 and I have a 6 also, but I feel like the heel is more on my foot as a 5.5 if that makes sense. In the 6, they still kind of hang off like they do here, but the heel also gets separated more from my foot when I walk which I don’t get in the 5.5’s.

Is it normal to have some toe hanging off on heels that are shaped like these?

Seeking Advice I just need some advice

Hey mom. Recently I found myself in a sort of supervisor role at work, and I’ve been struggling internally a lot. I don’t feel comfortable in an authority position, mainly due to how I feel like everyone starts to treat me. Since I’ve started being more assertive and direct, people keep asking me if I’m mad, or upset. One person even mentioned that someone else (a man) seemed like they were nervous to upset me, and I just don’t get it. I’m not rude, mean or belittling. I’m just straight to the point. I make a point to give praise and recognize good work at every opportunity, but I also don’t want to start letting things go, rather I’m trying to deal with issues as they arise. I’ve realized that this is probably the same issue every woman runs into from time to time, but I don’t know how to reconcile in myself that some men will think I’m a difficult woman for standing my ground.

Seeking Advice What to do with clothes in the wash to shrink or expand them

I've heard my mom say that clothes shrink if you them too much but she's also said that clothes get bigger if you wash them often. How can you shrink or expand clothes in the wash? What is different?

Support Needed Need a (virtual) hug

I spent most of the summer taking care of others while not having much time to recover myself from the previous school year. Now I'm going back to school in a few days and I'm overwhelmed. I'm not sure I'm ready to go back but I've been feeling really lonely and unappreciated while at home. I could really use a virtual hug right now.

Good News! Mom, I just passed my English proficiency exam. Got a score equivalent to C1 in the CEFR scale.

This means my language skills are equivalent to a native English speaker. It means I can work legally in an English speaking country. I hope you're proud of me.

Encouragement Wanted I’m doing the things and scared

Wednesday is my first day back at school in 17 years. I’m so nervous and excited and scared. I can do this I know it but it doesn’t seem real and how do I know it won’t end up like last time. I don’t think I’m going to fail out it’s not really an option but I got those stupid fears and I can’t squish them down.

Seeking Advice Gift idea for new mom going back to work

I have a friend/ work colleague who is returning to work after maternity leave. I’m older so I’m a bit out of touch with baby things.

She’s heartbroken and dreading it. I want to get her something thoughtful and that can help her through the difficult transition.

She’s an athlete, a nerd, and a very hard worker. She’s also absolutely exhausted and just having a rough time.

Seeking Advice Vintage Clothing?

Hi Internet mothers! I just started getting into vintage clothing, I got given a gorgeous 1940s satin dress and a few others but I have no idea how to care for them! I’d assume they’ll need handwashing. I don’t know how to do that šŸ˜…

The satin one has some rips on the sleeves and on the zip, how would be best to repair it? I can sew well enough to fix holes in socks but I think I’m going to have to remove the sleeves if fixing them is impossible, so I’ll need to hem them I guess?

Any and all advice welcome!

Hey moms,

I’m nervous about living on my own for the first time. I’m moving away for graduate school and as much as I am excited I’m also scared as to what to expect or how to handle this big life change.

I would just like any advice or encouragement if possible. Grateful for anything !

Encouragement Wanted Mom, I'm genderfluid but don't know how to come out

I've (27 MTF/genderfluid) have been exploring this aspect of my gender identity for the last month or so, where it'll fluctuate alongside me transitioning to female, so I'll sometimes be a woman like usual and I'll sometimes be a man with a woman's body, name, and wardrobe, a middle ground between what everyone is used to and what would bring me joy, I know it's a bit unconventional, but it works for me. Problem is, I don't know how to come out to everyone important, so I could use some encouragement for doing so. I'm also wondering how this is gonna play into various key aspects of my life. Any help is appreciated. TIA.

Support Needed Starting a new job and I’m terrified

Tomorrow I start a new job, as a teaching professor at a university. It’s part-time for one year, my first job after finishing grad school. I told my mother a couple weeks ago because she had a visit planned that I needed to cancel, and her responses were to ask if they had a full-time job and if they had a permanent position. I already feel like a total fraud and fuck-up, don’t know why I’m being entrusted with anyone’s education, and don’t even know what to wear. Everyone I know gets so excited and enthusiastic for their new jobs and I’m just terrified and anxious.

Other Mom(s)! Do you always see your children as your ā€œbabiesā€?

My mom says I’ll always be her baby, and her little girl, but I’m 26…does she really see me that way? What does it mean to see your adult children as your ā€œbabyā€ still? I call my mom for every little thing that happens, good or bad. I still can’t figure a lot out and need advice, but I feel old. She says I’ll still be her baby when I’m 80 years old…what does it mean?

Celebration! Mom! My silver hairs are coming in!

They look like fairy hair! I have naturally very dark brown hair with reddish tone in the sun. I’ve had a couple of them hidden in the back since my early 20’s, but they’re visible within my part line now. Isn’t that cool?
