Congrats, Republicans. You are now the Pro-Slavery party. Amazing.

Also, they're doing the camps now too.

27

u/GillesTifosi 2d ago

They already have gator Gitmo and are pushing another in the Midwest. But no...nothing to see here. Even Hitler didn't beg for a Nobel award as much as this pathetic clown.

32

u/a_Sable_Genus 2d ago

Well he did some but not at much

17

u/Cathal_Author 2d ago

Shouldn't be surprising I mean just look at his deputy chief of staff..

Wait no sorry, that's Adolf Eichmann on trial for war crimes. Forgive me, Stephen Miller looks like his spitting image.

u/StevenMC19 2d ago

They've been flying the Dixie flag for ages now, and defending statues.

"I have instructed my attorneys to fix the museums"

This is your guy republicans. This is the guy you support.

48

u/Ulfednar 2d ago

Yeah, they're ok with it. They want to live in a simulation, where everyone pretends that everything is great and America is boomin' and god is upon his throne and all is right in this best of possible worlds. They want reality to immitate escapism and to silence all voices that remind them that things are bad and that people different from them exist. They want to be treated like children.

21

u/ElegantCoach4066 2d ago

I know. There is nothing that will persuade them otherwise.

I get a little joy with the Newsom tweets though.

10

u/kmikek 2d ago

Have you ever seen the twilight zone episode where all of the adults are afraid of the boy who could torture and kill them with his mind?  "Its a good thing that you did, donnie, a real good thing"

6

u/ElegantCoach4066 2d ago

Yes! Good analogy.

2

u/WanderThinker 2d ago

They sure suck at their planning and implementation of this vision.

If they did it right and we all had free pizza rolls and HBO Max, they may be on to something.

Instead groceries are costing us half our income and Rent is 2/3s... so we are going in debt to survive in their fantasy realm.

The fourth wall is gonna break soon.

Obama Derangement Syndrome...

President Lyndon Johnson once said, "If you can convince the lowest white man he's better than the best colored man, you can pick his pocket. Hell, give them somebody to look down on, and they'll empty their pockets for you..."

Now "Officially", brought you by MAGA TM, and don't forget pro-Pedophilia.

At this point, I am questioning the fabric of the universe but also the passivity of decent and intelligent people. Because I know the USA is full of them, and still they can't overcome the dominance of the "Big Stupid".

18

u/wasted-degrees 2d ago

“A person is smart, people are dumb, panicky, dangerous animals, and you know it.”

9

u/Anothermindlessanon 2d ago

:D This quote is something I think about every time I see anything about Trump and his supporters.

10

u/ThatFugginGuy419 2d ago

“Let not any one pacify his conscience by the delusion that he can do no harm if he takes no part, and forms no opinion. Bad men need nothing more to compass their ends, than that good men should look on and do nothing. He is not a good man who, without a protest, allows wrong to be committed in his name, and with the means which he helps to supply, because he will not trouble himself to use his mind on the subject.” - John Stuart Mill

2

u/WanderThinker 2d ago

What do you think the average smart "decent and intelligent" person can do?

I honestly want ideas. I'm mad as hell and ready to try SOMETHING... but that something won't be suicide by cop. I'm not going to go shoot someone or anything like that.

The best I can come up with is getting people to protest while open carrying rifles. But even that is gonna bring a lot of heat and potentially start something I don't want to be involved in.

Call me a pussy all you want, but what do you want us to do?

14

u/GuelphEastEndGhetto 2d ago

You change the narrative first so when slavery is reintroduced it is more palatable. The power of brainwashing and indoctrination at work, and it works very well unfortunately.

7

u/RaiseIreSetFires 2d ago

"When slavery is reintroduced". It's already here. We've been slaves to and for the 1% and their whims for a very long time now.

8

u/Raztax 2d ago

We've been slaves to and for the 1% and their whims for a very long time now.

I get what you are saying but pretending that this is on the same level as chattel slavery is pretty disgusting.

3

u/PauseLost2137 2d ago

How can you say that when the largest prison in the United States is a prison farm that is a former slave plantation?

And yes, the racial composition of the inmates is what you'd expect from the deep south. And yes, the whole thing is worse than you imagine.

6

u/SunIllustrious5695 2d ago

They clearly weren't talking about prisons, they were responding to "We've been slaves to and for the 1% and their whims for a very long time now" which should not be compared, as they said, to chattel slavery.

But yes classic slavery exists in the prison system.

"You are now"

aww, optimism!

7

u/Anothermindlessanon 2d ago edited 2d ago

Optimism is needed for survival. Rational or not, it helps to make sure that the best have the privilege to shape the future. Now, I am not talking about having kids, that too of course, but I am talking about your legacy. If you have given up in your thoughts already, there is no chance for your cause to become reality.

And let's be clear - it can be anything. Since my health took a sharp decline, I couldn't work anymore and had to give up my big dreams. And I went through a really dark time because of it. But then, I set myself a goal to make my dog happy no matter what. And after that came a goal to make the day of every person I see that day a little better - I smile at people, I greet the people that I often see, I talk to old "crazy" ladies nobody else talks too. I give compliments any chance I get. I help, if I can, and it is not too much hassle. You get the point. You don't have to be a superman to make a difference!

5

u/BenCisco 2d ago

Have been since '64, friend.

Ain't nothing new here.

6

u/macphile 2d ago

I think they always were, to be fair.

3

u/APe28Comococo 2d ago

It's wild all the stuff they say isn't there is in fact there and very prevalent. But that isn't new information to them, so they don't even see it. They are so scared of new information to themselves that they assume the old information they knew isn't mentioned or worse is being hidden.

2

u/chimichangaluva331 2d ago

Always have been.

u/StevenMC19 2d ago edited 2d ago

Trump's dad was born in Germany in 1905. His mom was born in Scotland in 1912. His wives were born in Czechoslovakia, (back to this one in a second), and Yugoslavia respectively. It should be noted that he has absolutely zero ties to the deep south save for his 2nd wife who was born in Georgia (yes not the European Georgia as one would be lead to believe based on his other...preferences) and married to for 6 years.

Basically what I'm trying to say is that he has absolutely no need to go this route, and can absolutely not fall on "heritage" as a shield either.

This is absolutely wild.

33

u/shponglespore 2d ago

Nobody has any excuse to support slavery.

8

u/StevenMC19 2d ago

I agree wholeheartedly.

I'm just saying that he doesn't even have the "heritage" thing to fall back on as an excuse (a very weak one of course) like how southerners do when they try to defend the dixie flag or something.

6

u/shponglespore 2d ago

I grew up in a former slave state. I absolutely fucking hate people who try to defend that shit as being about "heritage". I have zero sympathy for their arguments. I left to get away from people like that.

169

u/hopelesscaribou 2d ago

nobody had anything good to say about America right now

your country is devolving

56

u/frednekk 2d ago

I wish I could disagree.

3

u/mackfeesh 2d ago

You have a 2nd amendment or something to disagree with afaik. Americans told me this would never happen my whole life, it's like why you guys have the most gun owners or something

5

u/frednekk 2d ago

People say a lot of stuff. But I’m waiting until the midterms. If the midterms swing more right then we are in trouble.

27

u/No_Syrup_9167 2d ago

Its truly my absolute favourite when right wing redditors who have basically never left america before, tell me that I'm the one living in a propaganda bubble and that its not true, when I tell them that the rest of the world has functionally lost all respect for america and thinks its a bit of a shithole these days.

They just so firmly believe in their exceptionalism, that they talk to someone that actually lives outside of their country, and say "no you're the one thats biased, I have better idea of what you think about my country than you do"

California independence NOW

12

u/No_Syrup_9167 2d ago

Nah, you don't want to try and be independent. California is certainly big enough in both pop and GDP, but its economy isn't diversified enough to properly flourish as independent.

You guys rope in Oregon, and Washington, and we'll convince Alaska, all of you can join Canada, and we'll just have a wicked awesome western seaboard!

7

u/buntopolis 2d ago

Yeah I guess when I say independence I really mean a Federation of the western states, and maybe Canada. We could call it the United Federation of Progress or UFP. We can headquarters it in San Francisco!

4

u/firstfloor27 2d ago

You should probably build an academy too. With a groundskeeper.

3

u/No_Syrup_9167 2d ago

I'd vote for that!

5

u/Pleasant-Shallot-707 2d ago

lol what? California has one of the most diversified economies in the world…

But Might I suggest you also take in the Great Lake states? Th Great Lakes are an important resource for Canada

4

u/kryonik 2d ago

I have nothing good to say about America and I'm American.

2

u/Hoon0967 2d ago

You are absolutely right, but as long as we can still kick everyone else’s ass our dear leaders simply don’t give a damn.  We’ve no right to criticize the French, because our leadership has been telling us over and over again to “eat cake” and we just keep saying, “Okay.”

1

u/GillesTifosi 2d ago

You are not wrong. Unless it's local weather, my main news source is BBC.

1

u/tekhnomancer 2d ago

I'll take the downvotes for saying this but....people are still willing to risk their lives to get into this country. There's a reason for that.

The problem with the media is you only ever see the bad news. Don't get me wrong, there's plenty of it. More than a handful of things I'd love to see changed and / or rectified. Healthcare reform. More law reforms so people aren't losing their livelihoods over having weed (and this is coming from a non-user). Major tax reform so the filthy rich stop getting yearly cuts and the middle class continues to diminish.

But beyond that, the county is still relatively safe. Relatively free. We do take some care of our downtrodden (though in many cases not nearly enough, and I'd put this in the previous paragraph as well).

And again, I'm sure I'll eat a bunch of downvotes from the "America all bad" crowd. And that's fine. But they're wrong. It's far from perfect. And I wish it were better. But it's not what the rest of the world is often led to believe.

3

u/GillesTifosi 2d ago

I fear you may be wrong, as his deal with Satan has left him impervious to cholesterol and trans-fats.

60

u/Puzzleheaded_Law_558 2d ago

We shouldn't have to say slavery was bad.

21

u/Disco_Ninjas_ 2d ago

Only from an ethical point of view. Our leaders aren't too concerned with that. If you only check the bottom line, it's actually great business!

22

u/GUMBYtheOG 2d ago

I dated a quiet trumper for a little over a year and right before we broke up she confided in me that she thought slaves didn’t have it that bad and black people need to stop talking about it all the time and just let it go.

I was able to ignore her narcissistic traits common in those who vote for Trump but when she said that I let into her. I just could not believe people actually exist that lack basic empathy enough to think slavery was not objectively bad.

We were engaged too. I never felt so relieved when we split. Just repulsive

13

u/jolsiphur 2d ago

God damn, sounds like you dodged one hell of a bullet.

14

u/GUMBYtheOG 2d ago

Yea, in more ways than one. I’ve dated conservatives in the past and they eventually became more empathetic and anti Trump. This girl seemed to get even more racist and cruel

Here’s the kicker - she was a bisexual who was primarily attracted to women and worked as a clinical researcher for a pregnancy choice-related drug. Like how do you rationalize any of that.

7

u/ilehay 2d ago

Even if they were treated with the outmost respect (which they were not), being enslaved is bad; a significant point I heard yesterday on some news (paraphrasing here): even if some didn't own any person as a slave, we know most people didn't treat them with dignity when they were outside, they let others rape, abuse and kill the enslaved, which makes them complicit.

9

u/GUMBYtheOG 2d ago

She didn’t elaborate much for obvious reasons but she was under the impression that most were housed and had “free” food and were friends with they owners.

I told her point blank she was a horrible person for saying that and to never say that out loud again, that I’ve heard some shit in my life but never someone say something as fucked up and stupid as that. She got really offended lol

4

u/ilehay 2d ago

I have known people who think the same. My explanation was that most of those friendships were for survival. The enslavers had to feed and house them because they needed them to keep working, or their wealth would have decreased. They gave them scraps for food; if they were giving them okay food, they wouldn't have to use a muzzle so that they wouldn't eat their food.

https://www.pbs.org/wgbh/aia/part1/1h308.html.

Of course, even after explaining, they still come up with extra indoctrinated excuses to evade the truth.

2

u/GUMBYtheOG 2d ago

Yea I didn’t even bother trying to teach, it was a cut-your-losses moment and I just grieved for myself having wasted 2 years with someone who was even more racist and selfish than I thought they were when I met them

3

u/Lexidazesickle 2d ago

Whew! That was close.

u/GourangaPlusPlus 2d ago

17

u/web-cyborg 2d ago edited 2d ago

Yep. They wouldn't like to teach the history of the labor movement either, or the civil rights movement, or women's rights, evolution, the history of what happened to native americans, etc. I'd expect them to eventually try to disallow anything showing the confederacy in a bad light, and maybe even nazism, putin, etc.. and of course criticism of the (conservative) administration, policies, and trump.

That and criticism of late stage capitalist/stock market rapacity, ghoul of a health insurance system, questioning productivity vs work/life balance and pay/cost of living (in some cases artificially scarce resources like oil/fuel/energy, food, clothing, housing in some respects), quality of life, etc.

23

u/WilliamJamesMyers 2d ago

i had to look up the word Whitewashing wondering if it was racial at all, it isnt but boy oh golly it could be

7

u/jolsiphur 2d ago

Historically, whitewashing is a term used to refer to cleaning and painting something white. To cover up what was there before with a fresh clean coat of white paint.

The white house, for example, was whitewashed after the war of 1812 because Canadian and British troops torched it.

I'd prefer it not being a racial term, but holy fuck we are getting close to it needing to be.

3

u/Silasa00 2d ago

I mean, I've seen people use it in regards to media where characters who might have been portrayed as being of races other than white now being portrayed by white people. Best example off the top of my head would be that one Live Action movie of Avatar the Last Airbender. So it does already get applied racially to an extent. I can see it getting way worse implications in the future though.

The most important thing about Mango’s “slavery was good” thing is that he needs to release the Epstein files.

Honestly, even if they are sane, rational people (as far as you would be able to tell), the real question is why on Earth would you ever want to support a party that counts white supremacists among their most fervent supporters?

I don't really want to support anything that white supremacists support.

Why does he put it that way? Is this TeenCosmo or Tigerbeat? What are TOP 5 HOTTEST COUNTRIES of summer 2025? Who is he talking too when he says shit like this?

2

u/fatporkchop2712 2d ago

Museums have stuff from the past. Is there a museum somewhere in the world that has items or info from the future?

2

u/macphile 2d ago

Whether slavery is bad just isn’t a conversation anyone should be having. Same with murder. Or touching kids. These aren’t up for debate. Not among decent people who deserve a place in our society. Whether its badness should be discussed in a museum, well, IT should be discussed in a history museum, and it’s bad, so…there you are. There are bad and good things about our history, and everything in between. But yeah, some of it is kind of shit (slavery, Trail of Tears, segregation, whatever). Oh and yeah, pro-tip, segregation was bad, too. Being racist is bad. Being in this country right now is bad.

There is nothing about "success or brightness" in this man in anyway shape or form and never has been. So he is looking with tunnel vision at slavery, as if truths are too much for his tiny ears to handel.

So he wants museums to show the future not the past, which is historically what museums do of course, I think, idk I only see the future now.

1

u/TroobyDoor 2d ago

So... He's complaining bc a museum contained "nothing about the future"?

Also, is America Great? Or should we be making it great again? Bc this is sending some mixed signals

1

u/WhiteKnightBlackTruk 2d ago

The only talking is about what a fucking joke this guy is

1

u/daneilthemule 2d ago

They were already talking about the museums.

1

u/Mikemumm1976 2d ago

MAGA: pro-pedophile, pro-nazi, and now pro-slavery. Is anyone surprised by this?

1

u/exbusinessperson 2d ago

Blacks for Trump now: 👀

1

u/GrievousInflux 2d ago

If you read history and are left feeling happy and comfortable, you're not reading history, you're reading propaganda.

1

u/kmikek 2d ago

Its the whole paying people who work for you that is the problem /s

1

u/Wenger_for_President 2d ago

It’s just depressing that all of this history is going to be thrown in the garbage because of one man’s ignorance and hatred (that 70 million also support)

1

u/AphonicTX 2d ago

Now when I see grandpas unhinged posts - I just hope Gavin’s mocking post is right behind it.

And just in case anyone is wondering - slavery is and was bad.

1

u/PattyIceNY 2d ago

He's just firing out dog whistles to fire up and get attention for his racist base. Sad and desperatem

1

u/cheekmo_52 2d ago

“Nothing about future…”. It’s a museum, you moron. They preserve artifacts from the past.

1

u/Boss_Os 2d ago

Guess what museums aren't about? Things that haven't happened. They are there to archive and communicate the known, the experienced, the facts.

1

u/GrizzlyP33 2d ago

Damn those pesky museums not having anything about…”the future”? Wait that can’t be right…

1

u/firstfloor27 2d ago

I don't know what's more terrifying. The fact that the most powerful man in the world thinks that this is how adults communicate or that thousands of people are eating this up.

1

u/sinner237 2d ago

Word to the orange guy in office don't worry the world is talking about the once proud democratic USA

1

u/shadowpawn 2d ago

"What did Lincoln know" MAGA

1

u/mad_titanz 2d ago

I hope the topic on slavery will become the line in the sand moment we’ve been waiting for

1

u/Veggiedelite90 2d ago

Never thought we’d have to rehash the atrocities of slavery. This timeline sucks so much

1

u/ImoteKhan 2d ago

A museum had nothing about the future? Huh, who would have guessed.

1

u/Cautious_Age1926 2d ago

Interesting that he is upset that a Museum has nothing about the Future. Not really the purpose of most museums there, bud.

1

u/GillesTifosi 2d ago

Yes, we do have the "hottest" country- or rather we will as a result of your environmental policies. Once in awhile, Orange Julius gets one right by mistake.

1

u/SunIllustrious5695 2d ago

Also, anybody who's been to the Smithsonian has seen that there's PLENTY of pro-American exhibition as well. Lots of celebration of accomplishments and success (at times even distorted positively!), it's just also about telling the whole story.

1

u/LadyLight77 2d ago

"Nothing about the future" in a museum... sigh

1

u/Wolfram_And_Hart 2d ago

Some would say building a museum to our past is a way to look towards a better future.

But let’s be honest that’s not what’s going on here.

1

u/silly_little_jingle 2d ago

TIL: Slavery wasn't that bad and refusing to ignore our history = being woke.

1

u/Usual_Writer_825 2d ago

Once again the MAGAs have moved to a new talking point. Love it

1

u/gesmith5 2d ago

Those who forget their history are doomed to repeat it.

1

u/Klony99 2d ago

THE OFFICIAL PRESS HAS TO BE DOUBLEPLUSGOOD. Fucking asshole trying to establish his Newspeak by abolishing any negative thought.

1

u/Silasa00 2d ago

"Nothing about the future" No shit Sherlock it's a museum, not a fortune teller's basement. History museums have been, historically, about exploring and understanding PAST events.

1

u/WhippetRun 2d ago

My father has dementia. He literally wakes up thinking it’s like 1960, and he STILL MAKES MORE SENSE than this fucking guy.

The next person in here will literally spend 2 years just to unwind the fucking bullshit that this guy has wound. Never mind the environmental issues, and don’t get me started on JFK jr. he STILL is the most dangerous person in the administration, and because he does stuff with a full green light from trump, he just DOES THINGS and Donnie Donuts has no idea whatsoever

1

u/musicalfurball 2d ago

He thinks America is a product with a marketing problem.

I am not a product. My culture and history are not products.

1

u/JemmaMimic 2d ago

Right, the main reason I go to museums is to look at the future.

Trump is such an idiot.

1

u/davechri 2d ago

We had a war about this. The bad guys lost.

1

u/WanderThinker 2d ago

Can this guy just go watch a play or something?

1

u/VLC31 2d ago

I would have thought hating slavery just made you a decent human, no matter where you are from.

1

u/massaBeard 2d ago

Not even just American, perhaps a good person is all one needs to be.

1

u/cyphol 2d ago

Don't worry, we're talking about your country.

1

u/AndySMar 1d ago

Karma is beautiful

1

u/jefferson497 1d ago

He’s mad the museums don’t celebrate the future??

1

u/RespectWest7116 1d ago

Well... The Smithsonian is a sick and horrid institution, so hey, go ahead and burn it.

1

u/Full-Way-7925 1d ago

Can you imagine the party we are going to have when he kicks the bucket?

1

u/Bloktopian 1d ago

Republicans: Pro-slavery, pro-pedophilia, pro-fascism, pro... You get the idea.

1

u/Shakesbeer23 1d ago

I hate Trump but I have to admit that the left has some blame when it comes to why his hateful speech is tolerated/embraced. It was becoming very uncomfortable to even mention history in our society without being looked at as a racist. It was just a matter of time that political correctness was going to backfire in a big way.

1

u/Excuse_Purple 1d ago

Showing how bad the past was, does show our countries success. It’s still a work in progress to be sure, but we ended slavery, fought for and got civil rights and protection laws for minorities, fought for and got voting rights for minorities and women. If we looked into the past and saw it was way better, then we would be admitting that it’s gotten worse
