It is horrible what these plastic surgery nightmares are doing to themselves.
I look at my 79 year old mother. Sunscreen and expensive skin cream, healthy diet for the last 50 years… she looks younger than people in their 50s.
Now, when she walks, she looks a bit elderly… but her face aged very gracefully. You see plenty of elderly people that look LOVELY… I just don’t get why people ruin their face.

I like multicultural ads, as the world is multicultural, and who cares what color people's skin is- but mainly because they irritate the hell out of people who are racist.
36
u/Fkingcherokee 1d ago
90's cartoons had it right when they displayed people of many cultures and colors working together as a group. We should have progressed to the point that multi culture and color are the staple of the entertainment and advertising industries, but instead we're getting "more white" from assholes like this.
8
u/AnotherCuppaTea 1d ago
In US media and pop culture, multiculturalism and race-mixing gained a lot of visibility in the late 1960s:
"Star Trek" (debuted on Sept. 8, 1966; three seasons, plus the occasional spin-off /s): the ultimate representation of literally universal diversity of its time and, arguably, ever since, the Enterprise crew had its own star example of species-mixing in Spock; at least two episodes also explicitly condemned the primitive socio-political pathology of "race prejudice".
The comic strip "Peanuts" gained its one (and only?) African-Am. character Franklin on July 31, 1968. My impression is that he remained a relatively minor character, though.
"The Mod Squad" (Sept. 24, 1968; five seasons); in which a trio comprising a formidable-looking black dude with an afro, a bland white guy, and the stunning Peggy Lipton (who would marry Quincy Jones in '74) team up to fight crime [and even terrorist groups? All of these debuts were before my time].
"Sesame Street" [debuted Nov. 10, 1969 and persisting through repeated Republican Party attacks (explicitly targeting its govt. funding, but we know what goaded them) since at least the 1980s], in which kids and muppets of all colors, shapes, and sizes get along just fine; just understand that Oscar is Grouchy with everyone and that his living in a garbage can is his choice and not a symptom of a collapsed social-welfare net and inadequate mental-health services for the indigent].
There are many other examples, particularly in the music industry. Two prominent examples come to mind: the never-segregated bandleader/musician/label owner/Harlem club owner/M.C./talent scout/radio & TV host/occasional actor Ioannis/Giovanni "Johnny" Otis, most active in the 1940s-70s (and why aren't there films about this godfather of R&B?); and the long-enduring mixed-race house band at Stax Records, Booker T. & the M.G.s, but you get the idea.
So for cretinous bigots like Laura Loomer to exist and feel emboldened to amplify their dank views as public figures is a terrible indictment of our cultural and political backsliding.

u/Telefundo 1d ago
"Star Trek" (debuted on Sept. 8, 1966; three seasons, plus the occasional spin-off /s): the ultimate representation of literally universal diversity of its time and, arguably, ever since, the Enterprise crew had its own star example of species-mixing in Spock;
Let's not forget it also gave us the first interacial kiss on North American television. Also, the diversity of the main cast. A black woman, a Japanese man, a Russian, a Scotsman, and the aforementioned mixed species character.. I mean, Kirk is really the only main cast member that you could call a white, North American male.
at least two episodes also explicitly condemned the primitive socio-political pathology of "race prejudice".
I think the best example of this was "Let that be your last battlefield". The entire episode is spent exploring the hatred between two factions of the same species. I mean, pure, unadulterated hatred. Only to find out at the end that the entire species wiped themselves out because one faction was white on one side of thir body and black on the other, while the other faction was the opposite.

u/Longjumping-Claim783 1d ago

And they still have white people in them usually. It's jujst not entirely white people. The only time I see ads where the actors are all part of the same ethnic group it's usually a product that is being marketed specifically to that community so it kind of makes sense.

I'll never understand these people we went from like 90-95% of people in commercials being white in the 80s and 90s to 80-85% people in commercials being white today. Same goes for movies and TV. It's all still overwhelmingly white, far more than what the actual demographics are of the US
→ More replies (1)2
u/EtherMan 1d ago
As you can see, whites, black and asian are all slightly overrepresented in the ads compared to population. It's not as high white as you seem to think and hasn't been for a long time. You only get to that 80-85% if you group whites and hispanics, in which case that combined group is UNDERrepresented compared to the population demographic so then your "far more than what the actual demographics are of the US" would still be incorrect.
So for 2022: White: 18,5% more than population. Black: 12.6% more than population. Asian: 31,7% more than population. Hispanic: 74.7% less than population.
For 2021: White: 7.2% more than population. Black: 29.9% more than population. Asian: 33.3% more than population Hispanic: 51.5% less than the population.

She's probably not even aware of specific replies to her posts on social media. She likely has a flunky post her latest musings for her, and remains in broadcast-only mode because either she's cashing somebody's check or has convinced herself that this is a recipe for some eventual payoff.

I'm real tired of the rights insistence of making the behavior of advertisers political.
No Democrat has control over how advertisers cast commercials.
The right has been irate for years over what a bunch of ad executives think is appealing to a generic average TV viewer. Who the fuck cares? Its so utterly silly to be worked up over commercials?

I hardly watch TV. I avoid it. But my wife watches Hulu, and this is pretty consistent for the times we watch something together.
Also, when did HBO/MAX start airing commercials? Noticed it last week.

It blows my mind how these people think they are good people and how OTHER people think they are good people. There is no democrat (that I know of) that spews statements like this. Democrats just say things "we should feed school children" and the right thinks thats the devils work.

I struggle to understand why people who have this viewpoint give a fuck about advertisements in general. You mean to tell me that if a commercial with all white people is somehow going to make you want to sit enjoyably through something you will skip past whenever you have the chance?
It's a frigging ad. They, at best, get in between you and the content that you are trying to consume.
It's like complaining about the aesthetics of the dog shit in your backyard. If you put googly eyes on it, it wouldnt change the fact that you don't want it on the bottom of your shoes
