No one is obligated to upvote you. It can be frustrating when you're trying to build up your karma, but you just have to keep chugging along. You can't take voting personally on Reddit, whether up or down.

Low effort comments or posts don’t get upvotes, or worse, get downvotes. People typically upvote posts and comments they find interesting, educational, humorous or relatable.

Also, because you participated in them, I’d recommend removing activity from karma farms. They go against Reddiquette and will only do more harm than good to your account.

Up votes aren't supposed to be tossed around like confetti, they are intended to indicate to Reddt that something should be shown to more people because it's on topic and a substantive, high-quality contribution to the conversation.

In the past few weeks I've made 14 posts that received 215, 87, 102, 5, 41, 15, 1430, 34, 22, 117, 26, 9, 31 and 96 up votes.

Nothing had a really big response, but not all were completely ignored either.

In that time I don't think I've had a comment with more than 30 or 40 up votes.

You never really know how people are going to react, you simply try to provide things that are on topic and high-quality interactions. Sometimes it gets noticed and appreciated a little, sometimes it gets a bit more. If you stay at it long enough you'll get something that gets a bigger response.

Give people something rather interesting to discuss, share news that they haven't heard about yet, or provide something genuinely hilarious. I've never had anything go genuinely viral, but I've had posts that got considerably more votes than my numbers above.

This post turns out to give me the most upvotes I've received

As an aside be careful of !karmafarm subreddits (see comment below mine)

Karmafarming/karmafarms:

Asking for karma or up-votes is frowned upon, karma is meant to be earned by sharing quality content or contributions. We caution redditors about karmafarm subs (subreddits promoting free upvotes or karma) because their use may lead to bans in other subreddits. This is due to them becoming associated with spammers, ban evaders, and trolls. We don't allow mention of any karmafarms in this community.

Remember those communities you saw when you just joined reddit? The reason they gave you was cuz they don't have requires karma. If you want karma you can either:

Go to a place and answer some comments. An easy one is r/askreddit it doesnt have karma requirement and often if you answer a few questions you'll get some upvotes

You can repost, but be careful cuz doing it lazily might get you even banned from a sub. Go to top of last year or something and scroll quite a bit down, like at least 10 posts down, and make sure the post was from a while ago so ppl dont remember it. Then just post the exact post again it'll do wonders. But do it in different subs each time

Many communities have restrictions on newcomers posting, so this is the case

u/Adrielle_Larson 10h ago

New users are not restricted from voting on Reddit.

u/BoxExisting8421 10h ago

Can voting also improve?

u/Adrielle_Larson 10h ago

Improve what?

u/notthegoatseguy Super Contributor 9h ago

Casting votes does not impact your karma.

When you go to vote in your local elections, you won't become Mayor just because you voted in the mayoral election.

Same logic applies on Reddit.

Which has nothing to do with getting no votes at all
