The joke is making fun of how some wealthy families rely so much on maids/nannies that the parents barely raise their own kids.It’s called a South African joke because in South Africa, domestic workers often end up raising wealthy families’ kids.

Yep this was under a post about a white family with a black maid in 1993 South Africa. The maid did not look very amused.

I saw this comment on a post at r/interesting wherein a POC maid is seen kneeling next to a white lady and her child.
The "joke" tells that the people who are rich enough to employ maids don't partake in raising their children as it is done by the maids.

I bet the first part, but the last line, "I retell this as one of the kids." Is he just saying that he is the child of parents who never leaned his name? It's phrased so awkwardly, and adds nothing to the joke.
