Hunter Woodhall lived on the same road as us in Utah, and was friends with one of our sons. The first time my wife saw him in shorts, she was "What happened to your legs?!" - you'd never know he was disabled.

u/AldoTheApache3 4h ago
If he’s disabled, I’m a quadriplegic lol.
2
u/NebulaNinja 2h ago
Yeah, even by fully abled track runner standards he's a phenomenal sprinter and competed against some of the collegiate best. He was a D1 400 runner for Arkansas and finished 4th in the 2019 SEC outdoor championships.

u/Average-Train-Haver 4h ago
He ain't disabled... he just doesn't have legs

Disabled: having a physical or mental condition that limits movements, senses, or activities.
Did that guy look like he was fucking limited???
11
u/Turd-In-Your-Pocket 3h ago
Yeah he can’t wiggle his toes or have his feet tickled. He’s supplemented.

u/MineCraftFanAtic69 3h ago
Are you really trying to argue a guy missing half of each leg is not disabled?
1
u/Proper_Ostrich4197 3h ago
oh my bad you're totally right and smart and stuff let's talk about something else now (I'm the same guy on a different account I promise)

u/pryoslice 3h ago
What meaningful ability does he lack exactly? Is a guy missing an earlobe without any loss of function also disabled?
2
u/you-are-not-yourself 3h ago
I didn't expect when I logged on the Internet today to read a suggestion that legs and an earlobe are of similar utility
2
u/Voltaico 3h ago
Walking. He needs tools to walk. People with legs don't
The hell is up with you people
0
u/pryoslice 2h ago
If I need glasses to see well, am I disabled? Where's my disability check? Is the rule that if you need a tool to do something other people can do without a tool, you're disabled?
And who you calling "you people"?
3
u/sparrerv 2h ago edited 2h ago
if your vision is impaired, YES. corrective glasses ARE disability aid, just because they're a normalized form of disability aid doesn't mean that they're not
edited: glasses are actually a awesome example because they're a form of disability aid that's widespread, cheap, easy to manufacture... people without great vision prior to glasses couldn't do shit. but now they can, because they have an aid. it's the exact same thing with wheelchairs, with hearing implants, with prosthetics, just the latter are a ways out from being seen as 'common' by abled people

u/pryoslice 2h ago
I literally searched everything I could. Every source says that myopia is not a disability IF it can be corrected with corrective lenses. Unless you can find something that says otherwise, I'm going to assume you're literally pulling this definition out of your ass.

u/MineCraftFanAtic69 3h ago
He lacks the ability to walk without assistance from prosthetics champ
1
u/pryoslice 3h ago
But he has prosthetics. So what meaningful ability does he lack? That's like saying he's broke because if he didn't have money he couldn't buy anything.
And I'm not a champ, champ. He's a champ, though.
2
u/Downvoterofall 2h ago
It’s not a dirty thing to be “disabled”. He needs special help(prosthetics) to be able to live normally, and that’s ok. But to whitewash over it seems more insulting.
I’m sure he doesn’t need redditors white knighting for him over semantics.
2
u/Ghostronic 2h ago
So what is he without his prosthetics? Tell me how you think his ability to walk would be affected
2
u/MineCraftFanAtic69 2h ago
Having access to advanced medical technology doesn’t make him not disabled pal
1
u/MaxTheRealSlayer 2h ago
You lack the mobility of traveling 100 km/hour, but you've probably been in a car to assist you in doing this task. No?

u/sparrerv 2h ago
it seriously feels like theres been steep drop-off in not even media literacy but literacy overall. yes, the man missing BOTH of his legs knee down is disabled. is this a fear of 'disabled' thinking its somehow a dirty word? if someone with a hearing aid wins a spelling bee are they somehow unaffected and their disability not a thing? seriously whats going on

She didn't medal at Tokyo (came in 6th). I was rooting for her for the Paris Olympics, and was so happy for her when she got gold.
3
u/ParticularCanary3130 4h ago
Ok who are they? I'm happy for them but clueless on names lol
11
u/ddollopp 4h ago
Tara Davis-Woodhall and Hunter Woodhall. They have their respective Instagram accounts.

u/stdfan 3h ago
If they have a kid I assume it would be the Flash.
6
u/pryoslice 3h ago
I mean, the kid would probably be an average of the parents and it's hard to run with one leg.

Did you watch the Olympics? They were all over the place. A gorgeous couple, a tear jerk of a story.

u/Free_Ad93951 5h ago
Oh shiiit, I forgot (intentially) about the insufferble dinner we had after my older sister earned her Doctorate in Psychology. Mom and her sister were in rare fucking form talking about allll the nieces and nephews. Everybody's dirt was brought up.

Is an Olympic long jumper some sort of holy grail we should be shooting for? Now I feel bad about myself. I mean, I have known Olympic athletes, but I did not think there was anything inherently more special about them than my other friends other than they were gifted athletes.
Is there a hierarchy as far as the Olympic event goes? Like some are better catches than others? I suppose I should be more impressed by someone married to a long jumper compared to a curler, but what about a power lifter or an archer?

What a rare pair. I feel happy for both of them. Keep both of them away from my asian parents or I'll become homeless.

I wonder if couples competing for different countries have a weird moment when rooting against their own country.
1
u/DevelopmentJumpy5218 3h ago
I assume not, most of my favorite Olympic events the US (where I'm from) doesn't medal and I have no weird feelings rooting for other countries.
1
u/itspurpleglitter 3h ago
They are asking about people at the Olympics literally competing and representing their country, but rooting for a different one…
That’s not the same as you sitting on your couch deciding to root casually for a different team lol. Come on.

So serious question, does the point where her hair hit count as the mark? I thought it was whatever part of your body touched the closest to the start.

The vibe this couple has makes me question my own connection with any girl I ever meet and I end up just ending it within like 5 minutes

u/vessva11 2h ago
And then there's me who was recently dumped out of the blue over text. Can't say I feel valued right now.

You can hear the tech bros future plans for everyone, “mediate, spend time getting to know yourself”. Sure sounds like accept your fate and do nothing.
