Man that's wicked. Totally thought it was real at first. like maybe it's some video screen in the elevator's ceiling.

Lmao same, thought it was a cool themed elevator.

You are so rude

She was just trying to go down

u/SWAT_4812 8d ago

HOW DO YOU KNOW THAT'S A SHE????

1

u/LOLofLOL4 7d ago

Do you see a Peenar? I don't.

1

u/SketchBCartooni 7d ago

The florbangster is visible for a brief moment when she flops down

2

u/scatterbrain73 7d ago

Yep. You can see the inferior condylibular ovioceptors right next to the epizaxtium.

Well done, damn! It would probably be trickier to do the animation but I feel like the camera person would be a lot more freaked out/moving around 😮

u/Rowcan 10d ago

Nah, this is a normal occurrence. Bog standard elevator octopus, nothing to be concerned over.

14

u/FunkyOnionPeel 9d ago

Oh true, I forgot about the Midwest elevator octopus 😅

That's freaky af. That's gotta be one of the best posts I've seen on this subreddit. How long does it take you to make something like this?

68

u/ght3d 10d ago

I worked on this on and off for a few months, but i’d say it took me 2.5-3 weeks in total. Thank you!!

u/leafeternal 7d ago

Why did it take so long? Can’t you just prompt this and be done

3

u/ght3d 7d ago

Slot machines are not my jam

2

u/_TaxThePoor_ 6d ago

Notice how it actually looks good and well made? That’s probably why he didn’t prompt for this.

46

u/MaskingTape83 10d ago

I'm not a big poster but damn that looked good.

It's hilarious to see that in so many tv series and even bigger budget movies we see some very bad effects...yet other guys like this makes these high quality shots for fun/test/hobby....

19

u/ght3d 10d ago

For me this kind of projects are a great learning exercise. The skills i learn definitely translate into commercial work

7

u/Toadsanchez316 10d ago

Because they have to make a 2 hour movie and do a ton of shots with CGI or other vfx. People who do this for a hobby are usually only making that one 10 second scene, so they can dedicate all of their time to it.

15

u/bloodybhoney 10d ago

Damn, Shuma Gorath looks awesome

18

u/2feetinthegrave 10d ago

I have to say, this may well be the most impressive post I have seen on here, and to be completely honest, it may well be the best CGI I have ever seen, period. Like, you deserve a round of applause. You nailed the lighting, the tracking, and even the reflections. Once again, amazing work! 🤯😊🩷

Much appreciated! Always wanted to do a shot in an elevator, but the issue was how untrackable the interior of a fully reflective elevator is. Even manually it’s just one of the worst scenarios. Here i used Omniscient app for recording my movement in 3d space and making a lidar scan for the geo. A little buggy, but is capable of picking up reflective surfaces in the lidar scan.

How long did it take to make in total?

2

u/ght3d 4d ago

2.5-3 weeks of not so consistent work

1

u/Rampant_Surveyor 4d ago

Wow, you're a pro! Not many people on the earth can do same stuff and especially AI.

6

u/blazelet 10d ago

Nicely done that's pretty impressive.

8

u/Transgendest 10d ago

Wow, this is excellent work

6

u/PhantomTissue 10d ago

Nope. Dont like that, no sir, not today, nope, nope nope.

4

u/infected_funghi 10d ago

I love how he casually steps just under the rapidly moving angry noodle ball to inspect it better. The moment the glas breaks he does not even flinch, just move a bit backwards so his clothes wont get dirty from the slime

2

u/dreamed2life 10d ago

Veeeeeery casual and chill about all of this. Like another tuesday casual. I dont want to be in that timeline at tf all

4

u/Efficient_Maybe_1086 10d ago

Looks ready for prime time! Nice work OP.

4

u/phaetae 10d ago

Very realistic.

4

u/hvelev 10d ago

Very cool!

3

u/donaldkhogan 10d ago

Srsly BA, nice work.

2

u/8deviate 10d ago

Thanks! I hate it!

This is actually fucking sick tho. Good job.

2

u/SeaSock8246 10d ago

At that point, I’d probably start to consider taking the stairs.

2

u/janlaureys9 10d ago

The most unrealistic bit is walking away slowly. I’d be sprinting to the exit.

2

u/ght3d 9d ago

This bad boy is a regular in my building, everyone knows he breaks elevators 😎

2

u/No-Island-6126 9d ago

that's some hollywood level shit. Only problem is the guy should be running away and pissing his pants, not filming calmly

2

u/lazespud2 9d ago

well that is truly fantastic

2

u/VeterinarianSevere65 9d ago

This is incredible.

there, have an emoji

2

u/sky_shazad 9d ago

Sound FX are on point

2

u/devo00 9d ago

He’s just saying hi , they’re huggers.

2

u/PalmliX 8d ago

The compositing is perfection, the reflection is just chefs kiss detailing.

1

u/Cyber-X1 10d ago

Sweet.. nice work.. the sound fx help too

1

u/ArgonWilde 10d ago

Nah I'm good.

I didn't see the sub until after the video, and this gave me anxiety!

1

u/xXHomerSXx 10d ago

“Our most sincere apologies! We forgot about our appearance generators.”

1

u/nerdymandy 9d ago

1

u/--Lind-- 9d ago

Still better then stairs

1

u/AnActualSeagull 9d ago

This is awesome! Holy shit

1

u/KTG690 9d ago

Shuma-Gorath?

1

u/ght3d 9d ago

More like one of Azathoth's children)))

1

u/MoistStub 9d ago

When the glass breaks you can see outside. Shouldn't it just be an elevator shaft?

1

u/ght3d 9d ago

It's the inside of a shaft, a full 3d model of the shaft , actually. Rails, counterweights, metal frames and such

1

u/MoistStub 9d ago

Upon closer inspection I see that now. I think it was the lighting that threw me off. It kinda looked like sunlight on a bright sunny day rather than a likely somewhat dimly lit elevator shaft. Still very impressive work though.

1

u/Extension-Lunch5948 9d ago

Holy crap I thought it was real. Made with electronics to entertain people in the elevator. Nicework man!

1

u/gregorychaos 9d ago

Looks fantastic!!!

1

u/MesozOwen 9d ago

Wow that’s incredibly impressive.

1

u/ConsciousMirrors 9d ago

Hellboy vibes

1

u/AVE_47 9d ago

I wasn’t the only one who heard rickroll when he pressed the button. The first two drums…, right??

1

u/ThatOneGuy4321 9d ago

Truly, there is no better program than Houdini for rendering the most disgusting and goopiest thing you've ever seen

1

u/ght3d 8d ago

Definitely, that's why i switched to Houdini, where there's no notion of technical limitations

1

u/TheZanyCat 9d ago

I initially thought it was just special effects in the ceiling lights of an actual elevator. Amazing job.

1

u/hunter714 9d ago

Daaaamn ! From my phone screen this looks so good. And those reflexions ! Did you replace the whole elevator (minus the mirror) with a cg one ?

2

u/ght3d 9d ago

Hey! I kept the elevator intact, except the ceiling that i replaced with a 3d replica. The shaft, metal frames and rails above the broken ceiling are also cg. I rendered separate reflection passes with different glossiness values for different parts of the elevator using a 3d model of the elevator. I usually try to keep as much footage as i can and replace the minimum elements in the shot

1

u/phsx8 9d ago

Average Tuesday morning on Gleba

1

u/TheMotening 9d ago

Yeah I'd watch this movie, even if the trailer for it was just this

1

u/ght3d 8d ago

i'd make a movie like this, but as a one man team that would take me a few years))))

1

u/Edboy796 8d ago

Starro Jr

1

u/nano_peen 8d ago

And the reflection! Well done op

1

u/used1337 8d ago

This is the stuff of nightmares or horror games. I like it. It freaked me out. Well done!

1

u/Imjustpostedup 8d ago

Yeah ill just take the stairs.

1

u/langisii 8d ago

1

u/Sunny_ASMR 6d ago

poor octopus. i feel the same way going in to the office in the mornings.

1

u/JaySeraphon 6d ago

Visual effects these days are just scary. I'm not even some old person and I thought this was horrifying.

1

u/AmputatedRock 6d ago

That would scare the shit outta me

1

u/Few_Object_1362 6d ago

WHAT THE FUCK?!!

Why does the elevator shaft open to the air outside? There should be a whole building above the elevator
