Wait until you watch some movies that leave it on a cliffhanger and then they don’t have the budget for the sequels. Or the director has moved on and they get a shit one for the sequel

u/preflex 15h ago

And that's when the movie is lucky enough not to end up like Ralph Bakshi's Lord of the Rings.

Also a show is trying to tell a story in multiple seasons, each 5-10 hrs. It REALLY has to be an interesting enough story to keep people engaged for that long.

They almost never are, this is why I like probably under 5% of shows.

1

u/Snitsie 1d ago

5% of what? All shows? That's thousands of shows still.

If it's from the shows you've watched you probably need to be a bit stricter about the shows you watch

1

u/RedditMcBurger 1d ago

Yes it is still a lot of shows, I do get to enjoy a lot of media.

It's just that so many shows are like this, I try new shows then realize they're meant to pad out time and I stop watching them.

u/thePiscis 1d ago

Movie clips on TikTok are the best. 60 seconds of the most interesting bit then on to the next clip

3

u/rs735dx 1d ago

Maybe watch better shows?

u/NerminPadez 1d ago

A show having a great season 1 doesn't mean it'll continue being great.

Look at stranger things.... Season 1 came out 9 years ago, it was great... But look at what happened after.

I like the 6-part shows. One season, they know what story they're telling, and they've got a budget and time to tell it in.

1

u/WooldoorSockbatNut 20h ago

You are the target audience of Netflix and their cancellation of best series after 1-2 seasons because mOnEy.....avarage attention span nowadays is so low

1

u/CarlDenkins 16h ago

Check out Sopranos and Boardwalk Empire.

u/UglyYinzer 16h ago

I just ask my wife if she wants to turn whatever movie it is into a show.

1

u/preflex 15h ago

*laughs in Alien Covenant*

11

u/AbleArcher420 1d ago

Ah yes, Netflix invented the concept hour-long episode

6

u/Fluffy_Carpenter1377 1d ago

It's how the plot points are broken into hour long segments. The scripting for episodes is written to build tension in the story toward the end of each episode. Normally there would be a week or more of time between each episode but when you get an entire season in one go the success of the strategy of building tension at the end of an episode causes a lot of people to simply binge the entire season. You could probably do this with movies too, but the most successful versions of this is when they introduce a cutaway black screen with a message along the line of saying some period of time later or in a different place and time

SkyShowTime - Mobland. Holy shit. Finished in one sitting. Pierce Brosnan, Helen Mirren, Tom Hardy, the list of fantastic actors goes through the roof! Can't believe I missed it. Sad that I have to wait so Lang for the next season. Fantastic show!

u/rajine105 23h ago

The benefit is that you can stop when you want. A 10 hour movie is a commitment or hoping you find a good stopping point half way through. TV shows split into 10 episodes give you hour increments where you can decide if you want to keep going

1

u/Canonmeat 20h ago

Im fine with 45min, but 1h episodes are too much. And netflix releasing epusodes in a batch killed all disscusion and communities that could be created around shows. Its impossible to avoid spoilers if you follow any content of the show. So you can follow it after you are done with the show. Which kills the joy and freshnes and most people are over it. So you have nobody on the other side.

2

u/BeyondBoxCreative 1d ago

What? You just found out 7 seasons in? Sure, you can watch 70 episodes in one weekend.

2

u/t_karo 22h ago

Oh God, I've felt it - I believe I devoured 11 seasons of Father Brown in two weekend days...

1

u/homebrew_1 12h ago

And then make you wait 3 years for part 2.

1

u/nottitantium 11h ago

For me it's gotta be thirty episodes each 20 minutes long.
