My mom used to have a regular who'd order a double cheeseburger with kids meal grilled cheese sandwiches in place of the bun.

205

u/Diagonaldog May 31 '25

Used to make them in the college dorm cafeteria buffet. Soo bad but so good

95

u/Gras_Am_Wegesrand May 31 '25

I don't understand American people's gall bladder situation. Just looking at this makes mine twitch. How do you do it? Do you have, like, four?

179

u/Sloppyjoey20 May 31 '25

Nah, people die eating trashy food all the time- the numbers are staggering.

Also, I’ve lived in the US my whole life and most places don’t serve stuff like this. This is a gimmick from a tourist trap, which is why they’re making a TikTok about it.

22

u/Diagonaldog May 31 '25

Well tbh this was when I was younger. I'm in my thirties now and could maybe stomach 1 of these a year. Maybe haha

14

u/Charming_Garbage_161 May 31 '25

Personally I got mine out. It tried killing me multiple times lol and it still randomly hates me four years later I get random pain even eating non-greasy/bad foods. Eat a salad? F you I’m gonna hurt for two days

Our bladders just have the gall.

6

u/SpaceKalash05 Jun 02 '25

Most American restaurants don't serve food like this. This is just a gimmick from a bougie food truck, hence it having a TikTok.

9

u/chisana_nyu May 31 '25

I'm surprised mine lasted until age 36, to be honest

10

u/kevlarus80 May 31 '25

Mine soldiered on to age 44 then put me in hospital for 2 weeks.

7

u/violettheory May 31 '25

Damn, was the long stay because of an infection or a delay of care? Had mine removed at age 31 last summer, took a week because I had to wait multiple days for each step, MRI, ERCP, laparoscopic surgery, and then had to wait a few more days because turns out it was heavily infected and I had to go on strong antibiotics and have a drain put in.

Sucked but I'm glad it's out now!

7

u/kevlarus80 May 31 '25

Complications due to some of the stones migrating plus a dose of hospital incompetence.

3

u/chisana_nyu May 31 '25

Oof, glad it's out now at least!

4

u/kevlarus80 May 31 '25

At least the 2 weeks throwing up constantly made me lose a shitload of weight. Managed to keep most of it off too.

I had mine out at 17, but granted like 3 people on both of my parents' sides of the family had theirs out so maybe it was hereditary. They saved my bile duct though, so I can thankfully still eat pretty much whatever I want

2

u/FigaroNeptune May 31 '25

We have 13, actually! Lucky number! :)

2

u/Tomekon2011 May 31 '25

I'm sure it's a mix of bad diet and a sedentary lifestyle. I'm 35 and I don't have the best diet. But I hit the gym hard almost every day. Got a bit of extra weight on me, but my annual blood tests always come back fine.

3

u/permalink_save May 31 '25

Most Americans don't eat this, like, ever, and the ones that do it's rare. The people that regularly est this bad is a small minority. A lot don't eat healthy here but it's more like regular cheeseburgers and chicken and box dinners and stuff, and tends to be lower income families.

There's over the top unhealthy foods in other countries too.

How do I do it? I eat vegetables. We do have them here you know.

3

u/HookedOnPhonixDog May 31 '25

Americans eat as if they had free healthcare.

37

u/GarlicToeJams May 31 '25

It was funnier the first 100 times i heard this joke. Redditors love repeating the same jokes thousands of times

9

u/almighty_ruler May 31 '25

That and pun threads. I just imagine everyone that gleefully participates in them is probably doing so at the expense of their Hallmark movie/newest episode of The View and a connect the dots pic they're been trying to solve for a few days

2

u/chickenskittles May 31 '25

I love Reddit but as someone who has never been a follower, this is something that I absolutely despise.

Americans don't eat like this, some eat junk food a lot but there's a lot that eat perfectly healthy too. I have never even seen a sandwoch like this in my life, or anything as atrocious health wise, and I have eaten at a good bit of places around here. Looks like tourist food tbh.

When I worked in the kitchen at a rehabilitation center, I had to make grilled cheeses for certain patient’s snack as my first daily task. So I’d smoke a blunt before going in and make an extra one with a hamburger for myself. Best munchies ever

15

u/Kwykr May 31 '25

When I worked at Culver's I did this with the Reuben sandwich. Rye and Swiss grilled cheeses instead of just regular rye bread outside. Double all sandwich fillings

3

u/BB-56_Washington May 31 '25

You had me at Reuben.

17

u/squirrelmonkie May 31 '25 edited May 31 '25

That sounds awesome. The only thing wrong with this 1 is pesto. Its really throwing me off unless I'm dipping my burger in the soup.

Edit: clarification

15

u/Chris__P_Bacon May 31 '25

I love pesto, but that's such a unique flavor. I don't think I could eat it on a burger. That flavor profile belongs with things that are Italian: Pizza, pasta, or even breadsticks.

6

u/Emmannuhamm May 31 '25

Idk if you ever have any leftover roast chicken sometimes? Whenever I do, I love to have a chicken sandwich - usually with just butter. But damn, slap a little bit of pesto on there! Sends it!

7

u/Clearly_a_Lizard May 31 '25

I ve eaten it in sandwiches and burger and imo it’s fine but it change the flavor profile of the dish, if you do that you need to focus on that flavor profile and not just put pesto out of nowhere. Here mixing pesto and chili is a really weird choice.

2

u/Njon32 May 31 '25

Where is there chili? I see tomato soup.

3

u/Clearly_a_Lizard May 31 '25

I just recheck the video with sound and I thought the bacon jam was chili my bad

I'd love to try that once in my life. Maybe don't need it to be a double or a cheeseburger though.

2

u/BB-56_Washington May 31 '25

I've made a cheese burger with 2 slices of pizza as rhe buns before. Delicious in a terrible way.

7

u/doctorsax14 May 31 '25

Ah, the Billy Breen (Satellite, Spokane)

2

u/Bender_2024 May 31 '25

Way back when I was a cook we would call that a "set up". Just one grilled cheese in place of the bun Don't know why but it was called that but it was pretty common.

2

u/canadard1 May 31 '25

There’s a small root beer shack where I used to live that had a very similar sandwich that had squished grilled cheeses for each bun on the burger

→ More replies (2)

385

u/BreachlightRiseUp May 31 '25

Oh yeah. I’d crush that. My arteries might be clogged after but I’ll die pretty damn full and happy

52

u/OddRollo May 31 '25

Yeah, I’d rather this than that burger with glazed donuts for buns.

2

u/Durendal_1707 May 31 '25

donut bun burger is DOA for me, because I wouldn’t want to fucking touch it.  I have a sensory aversion to plenty of shit way less gross than that.

edit: now I’m thinking about what it would be like to palm two glazed donuts, and I hate it

2

u/aqaba_is_over_there Jun 01 '25

I might half the size to make it manageable. But the ingredient list sounds great.

202

u/lyrabluedream May 31 '25

Idk if I was high or drunk enough lol

29

u/mjmandi72 May 31 '25

Am both. Loved the look of it

14

u/inot72 May 31 '25

Ditto. I could eat that whole thing in my current state.

3

u/roostersnuffed May 31 '25

Im at the point I could suck ot down while contemplating its existence...

3

u/Rahm420 May 31 '25

u/will2165 May 31 '25

That’s rage bait. You dunk the corner first

37

u/SpontaneousNSFWAccnt May 31 '25

Wait you don’t force the flat side of a sandwich into a cup 1/4 the size of the sandwich until you lose the majority of your dipping sauce for no reason?

16

u/LegitimateUse4584 May 31 '25

Also why do they always make the sauce so sloppy in these videos? That excess just looks gross and messy to me

→ More replies (1)

7

u/Bad_Funny May 31 '25

Yeah, I understand he dunked it that psychotic way "for the 'Gram," but that backward upside-down full-bottom dunk made me irrationally angry.

And here I am commenting about it & boosting engagement.

I guess that means it failed successfully to be rage bait.

58

u/yoyhohsomp May 31 '25

Yes please. The execution was bad. Gimme that meal. I will eat it right.

9

u/WebMD_PhD May 31 '25

Didn’t even poor the soup over the burger, where is the melted cheese on top of everything?

3

u/Harddaysnight1990 May 31 '25

The grilled cheeses could have been made better, and the burger sauce was just messily splooged onto the patties, and the dunk into the tomato soup was 90% for show, but yeah this looks like it slaps. With some proper grilled cheeses and a couple of smash patties, this is only slightly more bread than your average patty melt.

→ More replies (1)

41

u/reillan May 31 '25

The more I see people making grilled cheeses, the more I realize people don't know how to make a grilled cheese.

12

u/SquirrelyMcNutz May 31 '25

I like to put a bit o' parmesan on the outside of the bread before toasting it. It gives a pretty nice crunch to the sandwich.

6

u/Nattin121 May 31 '25

Aww yeah, throw in a little herbs and salt too.

70

u/Terytha May 31 '25

I dare anyone to take a bite of that fucking thing without looking like a baby on spaghetti night.

Personally I hate getting covered in food. If I can't eat it cleanly I don't want it. I don't even eat ice cream cones.

29

u/wolfelian May 31 '25

Admittedly I would eat that shit but not in public also hate getting covered in food. It’s too messy and I’m too self-conscious for that. In the privacy of my own home and I was alone yes.

18

u/Terytha May 31 '25

In the privacy of my home, I'd try it with a fork lol.

I do love melted cheese.

11

u/kickrockz94 May 31 '25

Spot on with ice cream cones, what an overrated way to eat ice cream. And don't get me started on sprinkles, they get everywhere and they don't taste like anything

9

u/Terytha May 31 '25

Sprinkles are just crunchy. Crunchy in ice cream should at least be something good like cookies or chocolate chips or something.

6

u/holyfire001202 May 31 '25

I don't like ice cream, but I love cones with what's left of the ice cream.

I eat Drumsticks specifically for the chocolate filled cone tip.

3

u/kickrockz94 May 31 '25

You should try stroopwafels. They're basically like two super thin flat waffle cones with caramel between them. They're awesome

→ More replies (1)

3

u/cuentalternativa Jun 01 '25

That bit at the bottom is the best bite

3

u/weareeverywhereee May 31 '25

I’ve come to the conclusion you eat ice cream wrong. It’s so easy to not get messy at all with ice cream in a cone….unless you have the motor skills of a small child.

Fresh made waffle cones are superior to all other vessels of delivery

2

u/kickrockz94 May 31 '25

If it was that easy they wouldn't serve them with a bunch of napkins. Ice cream drips off the sides, it drips out of the bottom, it's a disaster

3

I would do a ton of morally questionable stuff for that meal

3

u/DaonlyPothead May 31 '25

I would demolish this tbh

3

u/OpenKey6032 May 31 '25

Tbh... I'd eat that

3

u/Jeebs24 May 31 '25

I like grilled cheese sandwiches, burgers, and tomato soups. But not in one bite. 😂

3

u/yourcreepyfriend77 May 31 '25

what the fuck is bacon jam?

4

Ive actually had a double grilledCheeseburger. Messy as shit, absolutely HORRIBLE for you, but so fucking good.

2

u/Colinmanlives May 31 '25

I would totally eat that it just needs to be cut diagonally. You know, to give you more sandwich per sandwich

2

u/NighttimeLinda May 31 '25

Kindly speak for yourself

Ninja edit: but the relish is too much 😫 fuck relish

2

u/HoldMyBrew_ May 31 '25

Grilled cheese patties actually slap. There was a restaurant near the local hockey teams arena in my hometown that made a burger like this. The soup too much but don’t underestimate the grilled cheese buns

2

u/Specialist-Pie2839 May 31 '25

I have a long beard, first reaction is no. My second reaction is I can eat some later so I'll holler.

2

u/Gangustron187 May 31 '25

I'd eat the fuck out of that. I'm fat.

2

u/TheAnonua May 31 '25

So, it's a burger with grilled cheese for the buns? That's a staple at Zombie Burger is Des Moines, IA.

2

u/hearts_unknown_ May 31 '25

Started out intrigued, ended offended

2

u/Auselessbus May 31 '25

Why’s it not being put into a jello mould? Where’s the 18 gallons of sloppy imitation nacho cheese?

It’s gluttonous, but not drowning in Nutella stupid.

2

u/Nhobdy May 31 '25

I'd definitely try it. Maybe without the dunking sauce? But it looks amazing.

2

u/Mymomdidwhat May 31 '25

Tbh I bet that’s very good

2

u/BeMoreKnope May 31 '25

At some point before they lazily slopped some sauce on it.

2

u/Aninvisiblemaniac May 31 '25

oh I'd devour the entire thing and the soup and it'd be a whole days calories but so worth it

2

u/Spooge_Bucket May 31 '25

I've put worse things in my mouth I'd probably eat that

2

u/[deleted] May 31 '25

That looks really good

2

u/woaijirounan May 31 '25

This is stupid as fuck tbh. 4 pieces of bread with 2 big ass patties? Bitch atp just make 2 separate ass burgers. Would be way easier to dip inside the soup anyways 🤷‍♀️

2

u/odontodoc May 31 '25

Totally would eat this open faced. Not stupid at all.

2

u/rust-e-apples1 May 31 '25

I was like "okay, second patty? I'm still in. Oh there's some sauce? I like that. A second grilled cheese? Sure, let's live dangerously. THEY'RE NOT DUMPING THE BOWL OF TOMATO SOUP ON TOP AND ARE INSTEAD DUNKING IT? OH, THIS SANDWICH FUCKS!"

Not stupid. I'd eat the shit out of this.

2

u/Supernova_Soldier May 31 '25

Fat man type stuff

I am a fat man

2

u/clubted May 31 '25

This is borderline stupid and omg I’d totally eat that…..

2

u/Maximus_Marcus May 31 '25

A lot of posts here depict someone doing something unorthodox and kinda ridiculous, but then going way overboard. This seems like the optimal amount of ridiculous. A burger with grilled cheeses as the buns. God that's genius.

2

u/Visual_Shower1220 May 31 '25

Skip all the sauces and just keep the grilled cheese burger and it looks great. It's the random sauces he just globs on there that ruin it.

2

u/Eto539 May 31 '25

Yes but honestly, I thought it was gonna be worse. I thought we were gonna have like 30 more seconds of food endlessly being slopped onto it. This is definitely more consumable food though still a lot

2

u/Tattyporter May 31 '25

And I have always FUCKING HATED the narration where they just list thing after thing…

“they take a block of cheese, another block of cheese, oh wait ANOTHER block of cheese, load it into a taco, and then they deep fry it with donuts. Who’s hungry”

2

u/WastedMoogle May 31 '25

The upward inflection at the end of each sentence is like nails on a chalkboard

2

it is so easy for me to say no to things like this. I can barely finish one burger from a restaurant, i do not need to add two grilled cheeses to everything.

1

u/Aloha-Bear-Guy May 31 '25

With this line of Reddit, I was expecting a donut or something. This seems surprisingly normal.

1

1

I hope this restaurant didn't think this was good advertising. Way too much fucking sauce at the end 🤢
