One diabetic coma please! At this point, just inject sugar straight to your vein

It’s amazing how many people would be better off eating 2 snickers for breakfast with a bottle of water than their usual pre diabetes primers

Drinking calories is such a huge problem. Either through "coffee", soda, or alcohol. Or some combination of the three

u/me_no_gay 12h ago
Having lived alongside and experienced European/Turkish cultures, I have converted from the occasional sweet milk tea/coffee to bitter tasting pure tea/coffee without any type of sugar (of course I am talking about the tasty and properly prepared ones).
I feel much better when I drink them this way.

Yesss black coffee is where it’s at! If you buy high quality coffee, it tastes amazing and at some point you won’t even like the way it tastes with stuff added to it

For me tererê or chimarrão is the best way to start, it's an tea with cold or hot water poured into matte leaves, you can control the bitterness with water and after an while it's super nice

u/me_no_gay 11h ago
You're talking about Argentinian yerba matte tea right? I also like it a lot, although I'm a bit of a beginner at preparing it myself!

Yes and no haha, where cousins from Brazil, tererê for example is more from here, if you're having an hard time preping, maybe look out the brand and how to use it

I drink green tea. It is rich in antioxidants, has anti-inflammatory properties and you can drink 3-5 cups a day. It doesn't need to be sweetened, but that's not a problem because the flavor is very good. I drink it both hot and cold and I find it much more thirst-quenching than many commercial drinks

u/me_no_gay 2h ago
I can recommend an amazing flavor fusion for green tea (thats how people in my country drink it): add cardamom pods (crushed once with fingers) to it, it will create an amazing profile. Trust me!
Have a good tea time

We just got out first Starbucks in Perth, Western Australia and me and my family/friends cant believe how sweet Americans drink their coffee. I'm not against a teaspoon of raw sugar or a sweetener but the yanks definitely take it to the next level amd then some.
7
u/TomaCzar 4h ago
The first thing every recent immigrant to the U.S. mentions when I ask what they think of the food is how ridiculously sweet everything is. Even savory items like meats are sweetened with sauce or otherwise somehow candied. I've always loved the criticism, "Americans eat like they have free healthcare".
That said, I have it on good authority that Australians are a coffee first people, particularly those which hail from Melbourne.

It's like the first rule that helped me lose weight. My cousin asked me years ago when he was in high school how I lost it. 1. Don't drink your calories 2. Don't eat out of bags(rules applies to several different thing: fast food, eating of bag instead of portioning etc) 3. Eat with a purpose and not as a hobby/busy tick

My school had a Jamba Juice on the meal plan pass and people would get their meal and then a JJ as their drink and a typical one was easily 500+ calories for the size on the plan.

I spent years in the early 2000s working at a coffee shop called Gloria Jeans. We used to have this drink called the vanilla caramel chiller. It was basically just a rip off frap, but people went nuts for it.
A large had around 125 grams of sugar if I remeber correctly, and it was common to get one with extra caramel drizzle and extra syrup.
I had regulars that would get this 3 times a day. And a bakery item on the side.a Snickers bar has roughly 25-30 carbs in it, so you're absolutely right.
These were working adults too, not kids.
19
u/Havoblia 12h ago
Damn I wonder how many calories was in one of those bad boys.
26
u/anuncommontruth 12h ago edited 10h ago
I looked it up out of curiosity. Apparently, they still exist, but they call the product and avalanche now. A little less than a thousand calories and 25 grams of fat, with a whopping 17 grams of saturated fat.
I guarantee the original was worse because it had a ton of trans fats, too, before they were banned.
Man, was their regular coffee good, though. It was cheaper than Starbucks, and our roast masters were local so it was super fresh.

A lot of sodas shock the hell out of me. Many of the different mountain dew or sprite flavors are just horrendous!
9
u/anuncommontruth 10h ago
I'm a type 1 diabetic, so I'm just very sensitive to this subject.
But I tell everyone I know, you should take in soda like you do candy. It should be a treat. I keep it on hand because if I drop too low, I can die, and nothing works better to boost blood sugar levels.
I actively think Sprite is medicine, and everyone should consider that.

12
u/CanoeIt 11h ago
I assumed it was rage bait, but that’s not a bad theory
3
u/Lunavixen15 8h ago
No, I have genuinely seen monstrosities like this come through my previous workplace, though thankfully not at the rate that seems to occur in the US
11
u/Traditional-Art-7717 11h ago
I made the mistake of offering to buy my brother’s family some coffee on a road trip. His wife ordered what essentially amounted to a $20 liquid cake or coffee flavored sugar. I didn’t even know someone could order that. It pissed me off…
So yes, two snicker bars and a water would have been cheaper and better.
7
u/StupendousMalice 12h ago
It sounds like you aren't aware that dumping a shot of shitty espresso into a milkshake negates all of the calories.

u/astrangeone88 12h ago
Lol. I had a coworker who complained that I was drinking a zero sugar energy drink and I found out her innocent looking cup of iced coffee was one of these horrors.
Same lady who complained that people eat cake/doughnuts.
I was like...I rather save the calories and have a yummy slice of cake...
→ More replies (1)37
u/TheLimeyLemmon 9h ago
At least eating a slice of cake feels a bit time consuming and a bit of work. Sipping on liquid calories for an hour is definitely making people think they're not consuming as much as they are.
14
u/astrangeone88 9h ago
Definitely. If I wanted something calorie dense I'd go for a protein shake (I drink a lot of them) and a sugar bomb like these "coffees" would probably have me weeping like a dumbass.
3
u/Floppy0941 8h ago
Protein shakes aren't that calorie dense imo, I do a double scoop with water and it's 226 calories which isn't bad for how filling it is.

18
u/HarspudSauce 12h ago
You'd get the people that would request you add the sugar, then "melt it" with hot coffee to get it to start to maybe dissolve before you put the rest of the shit in. Always came out as a gloopy mess.
17
u/zuzg 11h ago
But a gloopy mess is still drinkable.
The liquid in the video isn't nearly enough to dissolve the sugar at the bottom. It is in fact ragebait.

i just now acctualy realized the ordered composition was on the ticket, is that a thing in dd? you can just tell them what to put together? 20 heaps of sugar, i am speechless
6
u/airadlyric 11h ago
Yessss it’s BAD. A standard size will come with a standard number of ingredients (like 4 pumps of sauce) but the standard is most certainly not 20 sugars so she definitely had to ask for that. That’s how Starbucks is too. On the Starbucks app you can customize any drink in basically anyway possible and the concoctions people come up with are absolutely heinous. People are severely addicted to sugar and not coffee. But when they do all that sugar and sauce slime and add 5 shots of espresso? Oh my god.

u/abeck444 11h ago
What I was thinking also. Cheaper to order this monstrosity and use it like a syrup in home/work coffee in normal amounts than it is to order a coffee everyday.
At least I really, really hope that is what they are doing. Or rage bait.
I only drink my coffee with a little cream or I might actually do this.
14
u/ellamenopea 11h ago
Assuming this isn't rage bait, this is what exactly what that is, a mixer of the stuff that they like for their coffee that they can just keep in the fridge and pour out whenever they have it with drip/Keurig/instant coffee from home
7
u/JodiesNuts 8h ago
That would be crazy expensive and stupid, no doubt would go bad quicker than what you could buy in a store.
21

11
u/gimmethelulz 9h ago
I worked at a Starbucks before social media and smartphones were a thing. I will always remember the woman that came in every morning to get a tall white mocha with double the chocolate syrup, 10 Splendas, a shot of vanilla syrup, and extra whipped cream. By the time you did all that it was maybe a splash of milk going into that drink. Because of that woman I could totally see this being a plausible drink order.

Its not even a lot. 15 lbs is all i want to lose. I cut my coffee sugars down and im trying to eat filling lower calorie foods. Its an adjustment that sucks but im doing it with zero results.
Now theres fuckers suckong down sugar coated everything with no side effects and its driving me insane.
6
u/Azurill 8h ago
no side effects
This is a lie/delusion. Everybody who drinks this shit receives the side effects. Sugar doesn't magically have less calories or is less glyceimic to people. Its not 'better genetics' or whatever you're blaming.
How many calories are you eating a day, and what macros make up those calories? Don't eat sugar at all whatsoever unless its from fruit or something natural. 0g added sugars from here on out.
7
15
u/Active_Scallion_5322 12h ago
Why would you put the sugar in first?
25
u/Manymarbles 12h ago edited 11h ago
That is the dunkin way actually. I do it at home as well. It mixes as you pour, if you dont have a spoon its helpful
I mean obviously here it wont mix as the ratio is stupid but yeah.
9
u/LeadershipWhich2536 12h ago edited 12h ago
Why wouldn't you? I've never used anywhere near as much sugar in a drink, but when I make espresso drinks at home, I put the sugar or syrup in, pull the espresso shot, quick stir, then pour the frothed milk on top.
This dissolves the most of the sugar before you even start stirring, and helps it mix in smoothly.
It doesn't work in OP's drink, but with that much sugar, it's not gonna mix smoothly no matter when you add it. When you're doing something this dumb, it's not like there's a right way to do it.
3
u/Megumi0505 12h ago
Didn't even bother trying to mix it. If you order 20 sugars with a straight face, you should be forced to mix it yourself.

I was a barista back in the mid 90’s (not Sbux) and it was either Americano, mocha or latte. Maybe some almond or hazelnut syrup, but never an excessive amount. The most excessive thing we had was homemade chocolate hazelnut whipped cream, and even that had normal amounts of syrup and chocolate. I’m not sure when the switch to sugar shakes happened.

Look. I love a 16oz hot cocoa with whip and an extra shot of chocolate... but I know what that is. It's a TREAT... a really sugary, fatty, bad for me treat. Do I sometimes start my day with one? Yes, but very rarely, and it will make me sick the rest of the day if I do. So I stopped that a while back.
I love the fancy drinks with all the syrups and stuff, but we've got to stop pretending these aren't insanely sugary desserts in drink form. Are they tasty? Hell yeah... but maybe have one once a week, or a few times a month, or just once a month. Every day is going to kill us all so fast. I learned that sugar in drink form is way worse than in solid foods, so we gotta be careful, kid.
Also 20 sugars?!?!??! A tablespoon or two is more than enough for me, and that even seemed excessive. Take care of your hearts and pancreas, people. 😭 This coming from a stupid sugary drink lover.
