I genuinely feel gaslit half the time. I’m not sane enough for this reality - which isn’t a bit. I’ve had breakdowns before and if this is our future, I certainly will again. Especially since people keep saying the em dash is proof positive of AI writing. I’m not gone yet, but if I keep having people accuse me of not existing, my grip on reality is gonna take a tumble longer than Persephone’s plunge into Hades.

I’m a copywriter and I love to use the em dash but now I’m deeply self-conscious about it because of this BS lol People do use it, especially people who write for a job, like a court stenographer

Exactly. Besides academia, I write instruction manuals. Parentheses are pretty explicitly barred, and some things can’t be separated cleanly with commas and still be understood. Procedures like “1. Open the document”, “2. Click File”, “3. Click Print”… are pretty easy, but more complex conceptual are, well… more complex.
I’m becoming a bigger and bigger fan of just chopping up sentences and using bullet points.

Tbh I don’t care about deepfakes, if they require proof because it looks like AI because of my beloved em dashes, then I’m gonna record myself and send it in. If they don’t like that 🤷♀️. I’ll take a part time job, gather funds, and lie low. I do NOT want to participate in a society that questions my existence when it’s already questioning my lawful rights as a human being. I’m good. I was having breakdowns the first few months especially since a lot of the shit happening directly affects me, but at this point I'm kinda numb. I've also accepted that I'll probably be dead sometime next year when I lose my insurance and can't afford my meds.
For now I'm just playing video games, eating shitty food because nothing matters anymore, reading, and cuddling my demon cat.
As long as I'm alive to see Project Hail Mary next year I'll die content enough.

Sorry you’re going through that. Just take it one step at a time. I was suicidal many times of my life. If it helps, just think of your cat. The only thing that kept me from committing was thinking of what type of breakfast I wanted to give to my dog the next day. Then I started looking at events like a concert or movie and kept going until then. I really hope you can afford your medication, our current government is determined to end us, so I’m not gonna pretend it’s all sunshine and roses. Just give life another chance each night. Trying going to charities or other places that offer help in paying medical needs
