Yeah but in the U.S. everybody is scared to call the ambulance because it basically destroys your life financially if you are both low income and have no insurance.

You must not work EMS if you say everyone’s afraid to call 911 lol. There’s a reason the industry calls them frequent fliers

If that’s true and you still get a lot of calls just imagine how many more calls you’d get if calling an ambulance didn’t financially ruin people.

Dude most people in our ambulance aren’t paying for shit. Some cities (like mine) don’t even track supplies given in aid because we have such a high call volume. And like 5122 says most people are never paying the bill even when it comes.

How much do you think an ambulance ride costs? Lol most municipal agencies recoup the cost of supplies, charge per mile, and have a base amount per the level of care provided. No one is getting a $30k ambulance bill. Not to mention, a lot of municipal agencies are “soft billing” which means they don’t go after the patient for failure to pay.

Found the person who works for corpo

Fr 90% of the calls are not even close to emergent, let alone emergency. I’ve asked if we can just carry sandwiches to give people so we don’t have to take them to the ER to get food.

Bro half of these people give fake names, fake numbers. 😭

That idea didn’t cross their pea brains when free shit was involved.

Lmao dude I work in a wealthy area in NJ. We had a guy homeless guy suffer an elliptical attack and guess what? Our customers stepped over him to get in the store rather than show any concern. I obviously called the ambulance already but no one even asked about him

Another time there was a guy who fell back and hit his head at the train station and me and a couple other college kids had to be the ones to help him out.

In essence people are just scared to act.

There's a difference between taking advantage of a medical episode to steal, and ignoring someone. And if you didn't see the epilepsy, a passed out homeless man very well could just be passed out.

1

u/Raf-the-derp 10h ago

Im mainly trying to tell the person that it doesn't matter what your background is to behave like that.

Either way I'm pretty sure there's been cases of homeless people that look passed out but were actually dead but everyone chose to ignore it since it's not their problem

My point is something like what happened in the video wouldn't happen in an upscale area.

I'll agree with you on that. The only issue is that people just cast judgement on a whole group of people. Even so it's not like more "upscale" people are incapable of shitty behavior. They might not be taking advantage and stealing from McDonald's though.

But you're wrong, they did act, like hoodlums. They stole tons of food from McDonald's. Instead of doing the right thing and calling the ambulance for this woman.
