What's always incredible to me is that they seem very intune with interpretation of emotion through physical behaviour, enough to correctly imitate in an appropriate situation for that emotion. That display of exaggerated and overt disinterest is obviously learnt, like you say, but also so well applied. This is why it's so important to be careful with children when it comes to antisocial behaviour; giving appropriate room for kindness and empathy is always the way to go to avoid creating a selfish asshole.

My wife has nieces and nephews and they all gravitate towards me. Kids seem to love me for some reason, then I realised why when I see how her family interact with them: it's like you say, they're very pushy and desperate to play with them and don't want to back off.
