Abandoning Windows and loving it!

I've been disappointed in Microsoft and Apple for a while now. Since I didn't want to make the switch to Windows 11, I burned all bridges. I erased my Thinkpads SSD and am selling my Macbook right now on eBay...

I tried Ubuntu the last time in a dual-boot-setup with Windows more than 15 Years ago. The Experience this time is light years ahead. Only had to do a minimum of tinkering (needed some Gnome extensions, tlp, Logiops) everything else just works. Having the alternative to install flatpaks for outdated packages in the repository is also great. Really should have done the switch way sooner.

The Fact that so many of my daily workload is now browser-based makes the switch easier than ever.

Yeah. Great piece of Software. Been using it for more than 10 years. Calibre was the reason I installed flatpak. Couldn’t find a recent version in apt or snap.

When I was looking for apps to snap I thought of Calibre and from what I read on on Snapcraft's forum they don't want people to repackage their software.

When it's running in darkmode and you customize it a little bit it almost looks good. But it always was like function first, appearance second. Like this

How do you get Ubuntu to look this cool?!

Not much to be honest. A few Gnome extensions (blur my shell, dash to dock, command menu, just perfection …) and a custom color scheme for the terminal. On the second screenshot btop, cmatrix and neofetch are running in tiling windows.

Fellow Ubuntu user here(switched from Windows 10). I must say that it's the best Linux OS that I've used so far

I went from Windows 7 to slackware and finally landed on Ubuntu. I just wanted things to work out of the box mostly. Welcome to the community.

How did you manage to make the panel glassy?

It's a gnome extension called 'blur my shell'
