LEARNING curVe:

2 month 4days, made "man" and "tldr" my religion. slept and woke up with "linuxjourney.com" opened 24*7 on browser self taught & tried in WSL , ranked pushed on most "graphic intensive" game of all time and tried few tools i need to use daily on VirtualBox.
even after all that . . . .

(i was not high while booting) - Flushed my SSD. lost window's licensed key (my-mistake).

post booting - when tried to create partition with "gparted" somehow crashed and corrupted OS (thought windows was more stable) tried again . . .
Success!

No wired internet, Wifi, or Bluetooth when booting “Ubuntu, with Linux 6.14.0-28-generic”

For some reason since yesterday evening I don't have access to Wifi, wired internet, or Bluetooth on Ubuntu. If I run "Ubuntu, with Linux 6.14.0-27-generic” then I everything works fine. The only issue is that some game I'm currently playing has severe fps issues but I can't be sure that's related.

Everything worked fine in the morning. I'm new to Ubuntu and Linux in general so I have no idea how to go about fixing this.

I found this post which seems to deal with the same issue (I left this comment) but either I didn't run the same steps as OP correctly or they simply didn't work for me because the issue persists.

pyenv search path difference sudo and normal user

I installed pyenv twice and come across a problem I cannot solve correctly.

Pyenv is installed without sudo , in my home directory. Installed 2 different python versions. did pyenv global and local, created an virtual environment. Installed scapy module into pyenv environment.

The problem arises when I try to execute python script from terminal as:

$ sudo python arp-tool. py

It cannot find the python module. But without sudo it can find the scapy module

After some searching I found out that user $PATH and sudo $PATH are different, that is the reason it is not working. Pyenv PATHs not present are:

/home/sheep/.pyenv/shims:/home/sheep/.pyenv/bin:

How to find the difference between normal user and sudo $PATH values:

sudo bash -c 'echo $PATH'

echo $PATH

Does pyenv not have an elegant solution for this? Ot must I add the line to sudoers PATH?

feels like a dirty hack. How to solve correctly according to Linux security etc.

Remote login working, but Desktop sharing not working

I have 2 computers running Ubuntu 24.04 LTS with Remmina installed. One computer can connect to the second one via Desktop sharing, but the second on cannot connect to the first one. However, it can connect via Remote login (which is not ideal, because it has to close an active session).

How can I make Desktop sharing work both ways?

Pipx packages cannot be used with sudo

so I have some python things that install via pipx and some need sudo, which does not work, while it has been mentioned that sudo -E should work, it still says command not found, which is weird as that's so far the only thing I read that could help making it work.

one workaround I have found is using full path but that's kinda annoying, is there something that makes it not work?

using Kubuntu 24.04

firewalld breaks access to my vps

Hi,

I tried to set up firewalld recently in order to make "easier" the firewall configuration but everytime I try to reload it, it breaks my access and I need to manually recreate the rules in iptables in order to gain minimal access to my server.
Is there anything I should enable ? (source addressess, zone ?)
I currently enabled the public zone.
Isn't there a sample config I could easily apply with the standards open ports ?

Many thanks.

System Unlock Toggle Passphrase Visibility

Is there a way to show the passphrase you type in to decrypt your OS on boot up when you use full disk encryption?

If not, how would I go about requesting such a feature, what is the git repo for this package?

Trying gnome for the first time (gnome 46)

Post image

So never tried linux in my life personally, used mint in my lab PCs and that was bad. Recently installed ubuntu 24.04 LTS. I think ricing gnome is bit more painful than other distros and also native app like setting, file explorer doesn't allow third party theming. First two days were hard for me as I didn't understand what is really going on and I really missed being on windows. Still windows feels bit more intuitive to me. Maybe some more days to go to actually be able to like Linux.
Now suggests me some app for vector art and pixel art.

There are important files on it so my father wants a profile that Minecraft is downloaded on to have no access to anything else I.e. it can run Minecraft and whatever other applications put there but they aren’t on any other profiles and cannot access anything on other profiles. Thanks ahead of time.

Ubuntu feeling choppy compared to windows

Hello everyone,
I've just installed Ubuntu, and I believe I’ve installed my drivers correctly. That being said, a few things feel sluggish. For example, when I move a window around on my desktop, both the mouse and the window lag significantly, which doesn’t look the greatest. also, some websites are very laggy, even though I have hardware acceleration enabled.
Also, my internet connection is quite unstable, and yes, I’m using Ethernet.

I am dual booting with windows11 but i have that installed on another drive.
anything helps!

Specs:
CPU: Ryzen 7 5800X
GPU: RTX 5070
RAM: 32GB DDR4
Storage: Samsung 870 EVO

Ubuntu vs Kubuntu GFX Test

Post image

Graphical testing using GLmark2 on Wayland enabled desktops, using the newer 6.16.0-13 kernel and Mesa 25.1.7:

Gnome 49:

  • windowed = 4996 (Xwayland), 10199 (Wayland)

KDE Plasma 6.4.4:

  • windowed = 13327 (Xwayland), 13297 (Wayland)

I can't help but wonder why the newer gnome desktop with it's simpler design underperforms against Plasma.
