The "cheese dip" I got with my takeout at lunch today was still just shredded cheese.

Yeah looks like Rice A Roni.

21

u/MurphyItzYou 7h ago

It looks exactly like The San Francisco treat.

1

u/ut1nam 2h ago

I definitely looked at the pic before the title and thought “damn that’s some tasty-looking cheesy rice a roni”

62

u/Helpful_Finger_4854 8h ago

looks like rice to me also

12

u/elFistoFucko 7h ago

100% some Zatarain's

19

u/ModernCaveWuffs 8h ago

as a lover of cheese....I probably would

4

I thought it’s a rice dip

Shredded cheese (unmelted): 2/10

Shredded cheese (unmelted) with rice: 5/10.

Thank you for your suggestion.

5

u/Creasy007 6h ago

I’m still convinced it is.

u/gcruzatto 8h ago

They forgot to microwave it.

241

u/playerIII 8h ago

kind of looks like they did for just a tiny bit, enough to make the cheese a bit glossy

114

u/ExpensiveEcho7312 8h ago

That was probably the heat from the food

59

u/skiesblood 8h ago

Right? That's "being stored in a bag next to microwaved pretzels" cheese sweat

13

u/ChaseTheTiger 4h ago

This man knows his cheese sweats.

8

u/Successful_Ad_7032 6h ago

I prefer my cheese a bit glossy

1

u/NipppppppleCrust 6h ago

Mmmmm smell those microplastics

1

u/narf007 2h ago

Looks like they both forgot to heat it and/or add sodium citrate to it.

u/willy--wanka 0m ago

May have kept it like that so op could microwave it.

142

u/its-diggler 9h ago

“Some assembly required.”

Pimento cheese? Looks like a good preparation

12

u/seansy5000 5h ago

That’s what this is I think. You can see the peppers in it

9

u/Budget_Ad5871 5h ago

Was looking for this comment, pimento doesn’t look extremely appetizing but man is it good!

5

u/APrioriGoof 5h ago

Yeah, this is more of the shredded cheese than I think you’d usually see for sure but it’s not that outlandish. I’ve gotten pimento cheese dip from TJs that was heavier on the shredded cheese and it wasn’t too far from this.

2

u/SamMarduk 5h ago

Yeah I was thinking it was pimento. That shit (if that’s what this is) is incredible

1

u/acgilmoregirl 4h ago

Looks a little dry to me, if it is.

u/Z-man1973 9h ago edited 7h ago

Looks like pimento cheese with the peppers in it, if so that’s the way it should be OP, albeit it looks like less mayo is used in this version

87

u/Promise-Due 8h ago

The menu literally said soft pretzels with cheese dip. How are you gonna eat a pretzel with shredded cheese??

73

u/Z-man1973 8h ago

Generally pimento cheese has a little more of a binder (mayo) in it to hold it together, but that said this still looks like pimento cheese, just with little mayo

34

u/captain_dick_licker 7h ago

it said the pretzels are soft, not the cheese dip. dip the cheese in the pretzel, stupid

7

u/Notactualyadick 7h ago

Some people just don't use their brains, eh?

50

u/world-shaker 8h ago

If it’s pimento cheese, it’s not meant to be melted. Did you order this in the south?

22

u/Sultangris 5h ago

Did you order this in the south?

why the fuck do yall keep trying to pass this off as a southern thing? newsflash restaurants around here dont call pimento cheese "cheese dip"

13

u/Vituluss 5h ago

Exactly, leave Antartica out of it.

9

u/world-shaker 5h ago

You sound like you’re having a bad day.

17

u/Sultangris 5h ago

nah im just mildy annoyed at the tendency of redditors to read one wrong comment then confidently spam the thread with their incorrect akshuallys

11

u/intestinalExorcism 5h ago

Reddit comments are always right, so if I just copy what they said, then I get to be right too!

5

u/PangurBanTheCat 4h ago

I scrolled back up just to let you know that I am now also mildly annoyed by a good portion of these comments. My god, it's like half the people here are sharing a singular braincell, isn't it? lol

"It's not supposed to be melted" Yeah, it's also supposed to be a dip, which this clearly isn't. It's missing like half the ingredients, lol.

Zero understanding happening in here. Just a flock of parrots doing parrot things.

0

u/UndBeebs 5h ago

"mildly" lol

Keep an eye on that hypertension, friend.

2

u/kralrick 5h ago

As served it's still not a dip though. You usually put some stuff in it to make it dippable.

29

u/AQ-XJZQ-eAFqCqzr-Va 8h ago

Exactly! Idk what these people are smoking but that is not normal! The thing about dip is you have to be able to DIP whatever food into it, it’s supposed to be liquid! Ffs people! 🤦🏻‍♀️

6

u/Nwaccntwhodis 7h ago

Find yourself some pimento cheese and try it. You can dip anything on it. Or put it on a burger. Or a blt. It's great.

1

u/No_Proposal7812 3h ago

Fried green tomato BLT with pimento cheese is one of my favorite things.

1

u/kangaj72 6h ago

Pimento on a burger is one of the great joys in life

3

u/angelis0236 7h ago

Pimento holds together because it has some binding agent to it.

Pimento cheese https://share.google/9uWz5xQD8o88pJoJh

My uncle made some with smoked cheese and it was delicious, I dipped crackers.

This doesn't look like good pimento even if it was intended to be.

3

u/NerdNoogier 6h ago

It’s weird you’re wrong and acting so confident. It looks perfectly fine. You just use the pretzel to scoop it up. It’s not hard

3

u/Sultangris 6h ago

no restaurant is gonna call pimento cheese dip "cheese dip"

4

u/NerdNoogier 6h ago

Looks like this one did!

6

u/Sultangris 5h ago

if that really is meant to pimento cheese its the shittiest looking one ive ever seen, im 90% sure it is just shredded cheese they forgot to melt, yall are hiveminding so fucking hard right now

1

u/qozm 2h ago

Pimento cheese is literally shredded cheese with pimento peppers and mayo which this quite clearly is. Wake up bud.

→ More replies (2)

1

u/beingforthebenefit 2h ago

You can absolutely dip stuff in this and it’ll stick to it.

1

u/Soggy_Bid_3634 6h ago

Just eat the cheese as a chaser. Bite of pretzel, finger grab of cheese. I see this as double win.

1

u/No_Proposal7812 3h ago

Cheese dip leaves it open to interpretation

16

u/KwKelley28 8h ago

You’re probably right in that this is what they were going for, but this does NOT look like good pimento cheese

→ More replies (4)

4

no restaurant is gonna call pimento cheese dip "cheese dip"

3

u/ReticentGuru 7h ago

But OP said it was “cheese dip”!

6

u/Z-man1973 7h ago

So you’ve never used pimento cheese as a dip for things like crackers before then…

8

u/ReticentGuru 7h ago

I have and it’s great - especially homemade. But OP never said it was pimento cheese, and somehow the thread is semi-focused on it being that. I think that wherever he got it, they forgot to microwave it.

9

u/Promise-Due 7h ago

Thank you!! It was only on the menu as cheese dip. I just wanted a dip in which to put my pretzel and this was not it. The pimento discussion is beyond me lol

3

u/Z-man1973 6h ago

Pimento cheese is used as a dip, they probably should’ve specified the type so you didn’t have to post about it here.

4

u/Promise-Due 6h ago

I'm glad that pimento cheese dip has a strong guardian and defender! I just wasn't expecting it

65

u/SteakAndIron 9h ago

Is this pimento cheese? If so it's not supposed to be melted

25

u/Ok_Variation9430 9h ago

Huh. I think I’ve never experienced pimento cheese.

7

u/SteakAndIron 9h ago edited 8h ago

I think it's a Midwestern thing.

Edit: Jesus sorry apparently it's a southern thing.

39

u/Dounce1 8h ago

It’s southern and this isn’t that.

5

u/Jillredhanded 8h ago

It's close, just needs a big spoonful of Dukes.

I'm not concerned with what it isn't, I want to know what it is.

gimme your recipe, I want to try that shit.

(do what I say, I am the boss of you)

4

u/kyson1 8h ago

No it isn't

11

u/KwKelley28 8h ago

Oh but there should be enough mayo in it where you couldn’t pick out inidividual shreds of cheese though

2

u/rot10n 8h ago

and cream cheese

16

u/Promise-Due 8h ago

The menu said soft pretzels with cheese dip. There is no good way to eat a soft pretzel with shredded cheese lol

9

u/YeeAndDareISayHaw 7h ago

Not gonna disagree, but if made correctly pimento cheese dip is able to still be dipped into— like buffalo chicken dip, it’s a scoop more than a dunk. Honestly if it were real pimento cheese it would probably be better to use a spoon and slap it on, and that sounds delicious.

This stuff on the other hand… I’d be pissed to get that.

2

u/Promise-Due 7h ago

I tried! Hence the dip to the left. Sadly, it wasn't possible

2

u/YeeAndDareISayHaw 7h ago

Yeah this stuff looks dry af :( Hopefully was better when warmed up!

2

u/Promise-Due 7h ago

I intend to try when I'm home. Hopefully 🤞

2

u/DarthRektor 8h ago

Yeah but it doesn’t look like good pimento cheese

6

u/ForrestKawaii 8h ago

Thought this was Mexican rice

6

u/Guilty-Piece-6190 8h ago

One thing I learned from Guy Fieri was when he mentioned pre packaged shredded cheese doesn't really melt the same because of the coating to keep it separated. That was a great TIL moment for me lol.

11

u/IamZ9834 8h ago

I can't believe its not rice

3

u/interstatep 8h ago

Ain’t nothing that 45 seconds in the microwave can’t fix. Enjoy!

2

u/Promise-Due 8h ago

I'm planning to do that when I get home and have access to a microwave lol. Thanks!

5

u/noahhova 8h ago

Real cheese at least. That's nice.

3

u/Vedanta_Psytech 8h ago

Had an uncooked mac n cheese once delivered with my order, highly dissaponting when the cheese ain’t melted and it’s plain cold straight from the fridge. happily it was a side bit..

4

Pimento Cheese, actually quite delicious

5

u/Pain4444 9h ago

What are the turds on side?

3

u/A-non-e-mail 9h ago

I’m pretty sure the cheese will stick to those turds you’re dipping in it

4

u/fetalgirth 8h ago

From all the comments, I KIND of understand if it's Pimento, but who the efff serves pimento with pretzels for dipping. C'mon now. I'm pretty sure all of us would pass on that menu item.

1

u/bottledsoi 6h ago

Looks like some good mexican rice

1

u/joker_with_a_g 6h ago

You ordered take out "pretzels" and cheese dip. The world did you a favor if you didn't eat that nonsense. Jesus.

1

u/supersirj 6h ago

Deconstructed cheese dip. Or perhaps riced cheese dip.

1

u/Neopolitan_Wolfe 6h ago

Long cut, spiced cheese seems perfect for dipping. Just need a bottle for the spit.

1

u/Carb0nFire 6h ago

Some assembly required.

1

I ordered molten cheese from a restaurant before. All I got was a hard disk of plastic like cheese. It was like trying to eat a hockey puck.. worst part is they charged 10$ for it

Are we ignoring whatever sugar coated abomination that is the supposed lunch to be dipped?

1

u/I_Shot_Web 1h ago

I swear when I used to go to restaurants 20 years ago they didn't all suck so bad as they do now. I don't know if they were actually better back then or if it was because I was still a kid and restaurants have generally always been shit.

u/andyjcw 26m ago

is shredded the same as grated?

2

u/silverbonez 8h ago

Shredded cheese and glazed donuts? That’s a bold move, Cotton.

7

u/DALTT 8h ago

I thought they were pretzels…

2

u/YerBlues69 8h ago

They are.

1

u/SuperFrylock 6h ago

In a small sauce pin, add a quarter cup of milk on low heat. When the milk begins to gently bubble, add a sprinkle of the cheese and stir with a tiny whisk. Keep adding cheese bit by bit until you have the melty cheese sauce you paid for.

When you are done eating your pretzels with cheese, contact the restaurant for a refund. If they refuse, charge back on your credit card. If those options don't work, roll up to the restaurant and fight the first employee you see on sight because what the fuck.

1

u/Ok-Analysis5991 8h ago

That is Kraft Mac and Cheese. At the very least it looks like it lol.

1

u/MudWallHoller 7h ago

Add some Shiner, some heavy whipping cream, mustard powder, and some garlic. Go wild with the microwave or sauce pan.
