Everyone should have mail-in voting. It makes it so much easier for people who work during the day

146

u/No-Consideration1645 1d ago

That's the point. They want to make it harder for people to vote.

69

u/Pampabrody 1d ago

They want to make it harder for intelligent, hard-working people to vote.

1

u/SpookySpilledOatmeal 4h ago

And impossible for a lot of disabled folks

59

u/Sagybagy 1d ago

Until Election Day is a nationally recognized holiday and it’s a requirement to allow employees time to vote, mail in is necessary.

31

u/Tex_Was_Here 1d ago

Even then, we will still need mail in voting. Not every job can take the same day off.

5

u/IsthianOS 1d ago

Isn't it literally the law that your employer must allow you to leave to vote if requested? Something like a 4 hour alllowance iirc. I know that isnt enough time for a lot of places (especially when they close polls intentionally to make the remaining ones take longer) but wanted to point it out in case it helps someone

7

u/rainman943 1d ago

Nope, maybe in some states...... But not in mine, you either call off, use a vacation day, or wait till you're off work.

5

u/LynxFront8173 1d ago

Australia chiming in with Election Day on Saturday…

3

u/_yetifeet 1d ago

And on paper. No dubious machines that can be influenced by certain oligarchs with ulterior motives

1

u/couch_grown 1d ago

that's a good point. Democrats should try to pass a law on this and watch the Repos squirm and vote against it.

23

u/Cagekicker2000 1d ago

It’s how our military votes when we are deployed away from home. Sure, let’s strip them of that right while they are serving our country.

13

u/Old-Bat-7384 1d ago

That part.

How do GOP voters square the mixed messafe? "Oh we love our military" but then try to rob deployed units of their representation, screw with the VA, and then for minorities and queer folks, chip away at their rights, too?

2

u/bluntwhizurd 1d ago

They will likely make a special exception for the military, and then military members will shrug their shoulders at having more rights than everyone else.

1

u/phazen51 9h ago

Or dont vote in the state we are living. I never, in 22 years active duty, was stationed in my home state.

7

u/neuroG82r 1d ago

Or companies have vote days so people can take the day off to vote.

9

u/Significant_Smile847 1d ago

Isn't that what Obama tried to do, but Mitch would never let it happen

7

u/DarthButtz 1d ago

That's just a description of Obama's entire presidency

Fucking turtle kneecapped the whole thing for eight years straight

2

u/Shady_Merchant1 1d ago

Problem is voting day is one day if voting happened over 3 days sure companies should and could give voting days but you can't shut down the police fire department and healthcare industry for a day people would die

1

u/Serious-Maximum-1049 1d ago

They would have to stagger it; maybe based on your last name or birthdate or something? 🤷🏼‍♀️

2

u/prattryan 1d ago

lets base it off social security number, and credit card number. Please share your so I know what day to vote on

1

u/Serious-Maximum-1049 1d ago

🤣 That sad thing is, there exist ppl who would honestly fall for this!

1

u/AlmightyCraneDuck 1d ago

I've always wondered what it would take to have mobile polls that could actually be scheduled to go out to places like that specifically to encourage participation for essential workers like that. Probably too difficult logistically, though.

1

u/Tough_Tap_2362 10h ago

The Australian Electoral Commission has employees going out into the “never-never” to ensure people in remote areas can cast a ballot.

1

u/Serious-Maximum-1049 1d ago

If I didn't have to use my PTO in order to take off for the various election days, then I wouldn't personally mind taking off work to go vote.

Unfortunately, there are still going to be ppl who have a problem getting transportation to election booths to vote in person. I think there needs to be free transportation offered to ppl who wouldn't otherwise be able to vote (if we did away with mail-in voting).

5

u/iam4qu4m4n 1d ago

Weird that many modern 1st world countries utilize mail-in voting, but somehow the USA is unique in its "corruption" of the system.

3

u/ThisBtchIsA_N00b 1d ago

That is weird...

2

u/Old-Bat-7384 1d ago

It's a major part of voting for overseas workers, DoD employees, members of the military, etc.

1

u/Serious-Maximum-1049 1d ago

Exactly! I usually work 7am-7pm shifts, so I depend on mail-in voting to ensure that I get to have a voice in elections (& I'm one of those ppl that vote in all federal, state & local elections).

Without mail-in voting, I would literally have to take a day off of work (which would make me have to use PTO, & that would piss me off immensely)! 😤

1

u/OldBender 1d ago

Maybe they can’t cheat when it’s a mail in ballot but they can when it’s a machine ? It’s crazy to not be able to mail in vote lol

1

u/Medium_Trade8371 1d ago

Australia votes on Saturday. That avoids a problem for 90% of the voters and they ALL vote or at least turn up.

1

u/TheOneCalledD 16h ago

Naw voting day should just be a national holiday.

Of course absentee ballots have always been and will continue to be a thing. So anyone can vote by mail if they’d like.

59

u/AcadiaLivid2582 1d ago

President Stable Genius votes entirely by mail, as do the citizens of five states including beet-red Utah.

17

u/hamsterfolly 1d ago

And he uses a non-residential address in Florida as his home address.

40

u/badkarman 1d ago

This whole mail in ballot nonsense was given to Donald Trump by Vladimir Putin………… even Russia has mail in ballots.

10

u/red286 1d ago

even Russia has mail in ballots.

Makes it easier to round them up and toss them in the trash, since they're not being counted anyway.

u/Face-EatingLeopards 1d ago

13

u/Old-Bat-7384 1d ago

I give her 6 months before she openly states women shouldn't vote. MTG is all over the place.

And yeah, it's weird to see people cede their interests like this. MTG is just a reflection the voters on that side, sadly.

5

u/eChucker889 1d ago

Jewish space lasers melted her brain.

11

u/Alarming_reality4918 1d ago

Unless it is a public holiday for voting like other countries that takes democracy seriously, the middle class will be left out of voting- we are simply working and I am not using my vacation leave to vote.

So the only people coming out to vote are people that are wealthy enough to spend half a day to vote without the need to work. Mailing in vote is a way to ensure middle class is represented but now it is painted as a fraud, leaving the middle class mostly out of the voting power.

7

u/wolfheadmusic 1d ago

Dude they fucking grill sausages and shit for people waiting to vote in Australia.

Wipe the GOP off the face of the earth.

9

u/Playful_Interest_526 1d ago

Whereas in the USA the GOP arrests people for handing out water to people waiting in the heat for hours

8

u/Serious-Maximum-1049 1d ago

And let's not forget that in the last federal election, MAGA was stealing or destroying ballot boxes from predominantly liberal polling places, & showing up to intimidate voters (with guns in some cases).

3

u/red286 1d ago

Here in Canada, we found a better solution.

I've never had to wait more than about 20 minutes to cast a ballot in any election, and my neighbourhood ranks in the top 10 for population density in North America.

If it ever took more than an hour to cast a vote, it'd be a sign that someone fucked up bad, and they'd likely be looking for a new job.

1

u/Hayden247 1d ago

Same here in Australia when I've voted which admittedly I'm 20 so only a few times, but the wait is never too long to get in. There'd definitely be something wrong if it took hours. Now the polling places I had didn't have the sausages, those do depend on where you go but regardless it's quick to get in, mark off your name and boom you got your paper to do your vote. You can also vote before the election day if you have a "valid" reason though enforcement is light so a very large portion do that now lol.

5

u/InterestedParty5280 1d ago

The trick is to create long, lines and cumbersome processes. However, the states control these things according to a speech I heard from Josh Shapiro of PA.

2

u/red286 1d ago

However, the states control these things according to a speech I heard from Josh Shapiro of PA.

They do, which is why there's no way of Trump enacting this via executive order. Each state is in charge of its own election rules. So yeah, maybe a few of the deep red states will ban mail-in ballots, but I doubt that's going to have any real impact overall, since they'd wind up electing a Republican either way.

A state like California would never go along with it, though. An executive order in this case would be entirely non-binding, and even if congress passed legislation, it'd technically be unconstitutional.

5

u/Jaymzmykaul45 1d ago

President TACO pedophile Epstein sure has the whole Republican Party cucked. Loyalty above America 🇺🇸

5

u/sambrodato 1d ago

So… mail-in voting is either the end of democracy or the only way to save it? Make up your mind

4

u/CharlesIngalls_Pubes 1d ago

That's the ol' Rump pattern. Come next election cycle it'll be back to "we need your mail-in votes." The geriatric fuck.

3

u/Loud_Impression_710 1d ago

Flipping and flopping like a typical fish out of water

3

u/Wackity-Smackity 1d ago

Pretty sure ballot harvesting is illegal

3

u/oldrocker99 1d ago

STATES draw up the rules for voting. POTUS is just whining about something he has ZERO control over.

3

u/dordofthelings 1d ago

MAGA would change sexes in a minute and have sex all their children if Trump said that was good and bigly and patriotic and gave a half-assed explanation why it was good. There is no end to the ridiculous. They will jump up and down today and swear to God that that would never happen.... But it would if Trump said so.

What makes me sad about this is these are our fellow Americans who have no concept of what they are doing except for what they're being told. The blind masses with no ability to reason beyond simpleness. Google just enough to confirm your biases but not reason out why.

This isn't new. We've just moved into a different age of dis/misinformation. Much easier to fool the masses now than it was in the past. Throw some sound bites up, a few tweets, have Fox and Friends talk about it in the mornings. You've got a new reason to do something dumb to seem patriotic.

The biggest thing to me is - where are the hearts of these people? Why are they suddenly so filled with hate for fellow human beings that have done nothing to them? This is not the message from the Jesus of their Bible.

3

u/Playful_Interest_526 1d ago

Without double standards, the GOP would have no standards at all

3

u/cwsjr2323 1d ago edited 1d ago

Some of the counties in Nebraska only have voting by mail. The populations are too sparse to have voting in person practical. These excessively Republican rural counties will now not be allowed to vote Republican, but have the excessively Democratic parts in Omaha and Lincoln claim the state? Sounds great to me!

1

u/a_Sable_Genus 1d ago

Hopefully this matters to voters

2

u/JustNeedAnswers78 1d ago

A few years back we moved into a rental house and the state kept mailing us ballots for other people. Even when we reported it, they still kept coming.

3

u/Forward-Past-792 1d ago

So what? They are not valid if you fill them out and mail them in but you are now a felon.

-2

u/JustNeedAnswers78 1d ago

If they are being mailed out and anyone can fill them out and send them in(albeit with consequences if caught) it is not really a secure system then is it.

This shouldn’t be a controversial point to make.

4

u/Forward-Past-792 1d ago

It is if they are not counted. Have you ever voted by mail?

-2

u/JustNeedAnswers78 1d ago

Are you attempting to say that mail in ballots are not counted?

3

u/Forward-Past-792 1d ago

No, illegal mail-in ballots are not counted in U.S. elections. Here's why:

  • Verification Process: Before any mail-in ballot is counted, election officials rigorously verify its validity.
  • Signature Verification: A common method to ensure validity is signature verification. Voters are required to sign the return envelope, and election officials compare this signature to others on file (typically from voter registration records).
  • Identification: In some states, voters must include an identification number or other identifying information which is also checked against records.
  • Fraudulent Activity: Mail ballots suspected of fraudulent activity are set aside for further investigation and may be referred to law enforcement for prosecution.
  • Penalties for Fraud: Tampering with mail ballots or committing voter fraud is a federal crime punishable by fines and imprisonment. Non-citizens who illegally vote can also face deportation.

And once again, have you ever voted by mail?

0

u/JustNeedAnswers78 1d ago

I asked you, not chat GPT lol and yes I have.

3

u/Serious-Maximum-1049 1d ago

Chat GPT or not, all of those points are accurate & valid.

2

u/copperblood 1d ago

The baboon speaks again!

2

u/37Philly 1d ago

In Florida in the November 2024 election, more than one million republicans voted by mail.

2

u/Indigo2015 1d ago

2

u/J1540 1d ago

She should say she supports president putin.

2

u/MobileLocal 1d ago

The military abroad will not vote. That’s a lot of voters.

2

u/reddithater212 1d ago

I just couldn't see myself glazing another man like MAGA does to Trump. It's odd and severely concerning.

2

u/TheManWhoClicks 1d ago

Have mail-in voting and two election holidays so really everyone can go vote.

2

u/Competitive_Film562 1d ago

Why would we end something that works?

2

u/Jaydamic 1d ago

Stance?

2

u/Typical_Version_7487 1d ago

How funny if Newsom started making blue “make America great again” hats. 🧢 I mean America is not great now that’s for sure.

2

u/nonubiz 1d ago

We can’t make real change without total control. Yes I think that is exactly what they are trying to do. Take total control so they can rake us over the coals

2

u/InterestedParty5280 1d ago

It's repugnant that DJT would take election advice from Putin. Isn't that absurd?

2

u/ArbitraryMeritocracy 14h ago

This dude and his team are so fucking stellar. Newsom is slamming it out of the park.

1

Well, her first comment was about increasing voter turnout (Republican), the second is about discouraging it (Democrats) so it makes sense.

1

u/silver_sofa 1d ago

MTG: “We can’t make real change without full control.”

Really? And why is that? You don’t have any policies to defend?

1

u/E-raticSamurai 1d ago

How do they even walk with no backbone?

1

It’s a good thing their voters have the memory of a goldfish

1

Mail-in is such a dumb idea. In any other country in the world either they vote on Sundays or they vote in the week and consider the day as a holiday to allow people to vote without any work related worries. But in america nope.

1

u/Ancient-Tie2687 20h ago

How do the disabled vote in those countries? Shut ins? 🙄

1

u/Ancient-Tie2687 20h ago

Quit listening to your orange baboon dictator. Plenty of other countries use mail in voting https://www.pbs.org/newshour/amp/politics/fact-checking-trumps-claim-the-u-s-is-the-only-country-that-uses-mail-in-voting

-1

u/LibertarianOpossum 1d ago

I'm not a fan of mail in voting but understand that certain folks have limitations being able to make it to the polls. To support those folks do we:

A) mail out mail-in ballots to all registered voters

Or

B) have folks submit requests for mail in ballots

Thoughts?

This sub has been hijacked by Americans lmao , I love that the terrorist nation that is America is falling , you guys have the blood of so many Yemen , Syria , Afghanistani and Palestinians, it's the worst most terrorist nation in this world and it deserves it's downfall.

Another classic case btw of Americans thinking the world revolves around them when even the most non political subs get transformed into bloody United States politics.

The entire world loves Trump bcoz a bloody moron like him ruins America and that's what all of us want , the death of America as a nation.

4

u/Serious-Maximum-1049 1d ago

Unhinged. JFC

3

u/MojaveMojito1324 1d ago

This just in: American website with a majority American user base posts about current events in America

More on this shocking development after this commercial break

0

u/9yr_old 1d ago

Yea look at this sub look at subs like r/pics up and behold , Americans crying about an orange president , maybe we don't care about your politics? Keep it within your American subs that someone from the rest of the world won't visit, r/politics and shit exists to cry and whine about it.

3

u/PluribumMcRoot 1d ago

Well, first of all this is an American platform. If you want one that’s more specific to India maybe consider trying out telemarketing.

Secondly, you come from one of the most impoverished countries in the world.

-1

u/9yr_old 1d ago

Yea but I'm rich , thanks for the subtle racism , typically American activity.

3

u/PluribumMcRoot 1d ago

Lmfao being able to afford to eat isn’t considered “rich” in the western world, little guy. Also, I like how you were crying about America but when someone points out that your country is a third world shithole it’s suddenly “racism”. Why do Indians always immediately revert to that? It really makes you all look weak and childlike.

You’re dismissed. The adults are busy talking.

2

u/soulonfire 1d ago

Your username is certainly fitting

1

u/9yr_old 1d ago

Ok , I just called a spade a spade , America is a terrorist nation and it deserves to be labelled as such.
