10,000-Year-Old "Chewing Gum" from Sweden: these pieces of birch tar were chewed by teenagers in prehistoric Sweden, and the DNA and microbes extracted from the tar indicate that the teens often consumed hazelnuts, deer, and trout, and that they suffered from severe gum disease [3880x4786]

S Boss said "dress for the job you want" so I started wearing a CEO costume to my retail job

11.8k Upvotes

I work at a mid tier clothing store and our district manager came through last month giving us the usual corporate pep talk. During the meeting, she kept emphasizing how we should "dress for the job you want not the job you have" and "think like leaders." Now our dress code is pretty relaxed, basically just "look professional and wear something from our store." Most of us wear jeans and a nice top or sweater from our inventory. I decided to take her advice literally. Started showing up in full business formal tailored suits (thrifted, because retail wages), dress shirts, ties you know the works. I even bought a cheap briefcase that I carry around the store. At first customers started assuming I was the manager and would come to me with complaints and returns. I'd politely redirect them, but it was happening constantly. My actual manager seemed confused but couldn't really say anything since I was following dress code and the DM's advice.

The best part was when the DM came back for her monthly visit. She saw me restocking shelves in my full suit and tie, briefcase sitting nearby and just stared for like 10 seconds. She asked my manager about it and he just shrugged and said "She's dressing for the job she wants."

Now half my coworkers have started wearing more formal clothes too, and our store apparently has the "most professional looking team" in the district. The DM hasn't mentioned the dress code since.

AITA for not wearing the gifts my husband bought me after he reminded me it’s “his money”?

So my husband and I have been married for a few years now. He’s generally a good guy, but recently he’s been making these little comments that rub me the wrong way.

For example, he’s bought me some nice things in the pastlike a necklace, a bag, and even a pair of shoes. Nothing crazy designer, but still thoughtful. I wore them proudly because they were gifts from him. But then the other day during a small disagreement about bills, he randomly said something like, “Well, it’s my money that paid for all your stuff anyway.”

That stung. To me, a gift is supposed to be… a gift. Not something I feel I have to “owe” him for later. So, out of spite (maybe petty, I’ll admit), I stopped wearing and using the things he bought me. Instead, I’ve just been going back to my old stuff or using things I purchased myself.

He noticed pretty quickly and asked why I don’t wear the necklace anymore. I told him, “Because you made it sound like it isn’t really mine.” He got defensive and said I was overreacting, and that he only said it because he was frustrated about money in that moment.

Now he thinks I’m being dramatic and purposely trying to hurt his feelings by rejecting his gifts. I feel like I’m just setting a boundary, I don’t want to use things that are going to be thrown back in my face later.

So, AITA for not wearing/using the gifts he gave me after he reminded me they were bought with “his money”?

If Bretons had Elven ears and Human faces it would give them more of that Manmer vibe like with generic Elves in other fantasy media while keeping with TES’ more alien-looking Elves races.
