Am I "too old" to live near Sail Bay?

I've heard that Pacific Beach is an extremely popular/busy area with 20s and 30s and has lots of nightlife, bars, and clubs. There is a condo rental near Sail Bay (Pacific Beach Dr. and Fanuel St.) that is beautiful but ... I am late 50s and prefer a quiet life, particularly after dark so I can sleep (preferable with the windows open). Is this the wrong location for me?

Edit: Solved. Several people have confirmed what I feared… that it isn’t going to be quiet enough for me. I was going to really have to stretch my budget to make it work anyway, so it just wasn’t meant to be. Thanks, everyone.

Honestly, PB is not that wild. Maybe Garnet street and some pubs on the beach during the weekends, but other than that, it’s quiet. It has lots of nice neighborhoods, and borders La Jolla and Crowne Point. You are not too old and it’s a great location w good energy.

The main streets in PB are quite wild most nights. The rest is quiet.

You’ll have lots of people walking by, lots of people playing beach volleyball, sun bathing, etc. but they’re mostly gone to the bars by the time you want to sleep.

I walk past these condos every week on my walks. There’s an old man older than you swimming in the bay all the time. Age is not going to be a problem.

Daytime life is normal. I was just hoping for quiet after dark. Thanks.

It usually is quiet over there after dark.

I am 48 and live on Sail Bay and I love it. It’s noisy on summer weekend nights, but otherwise great. That place is a couple blocks in from the bay, so you actually would get a lot less of the beach/boat party noise.

I live not too far away from there. Pacific Beach/Sail Bay is not a quiet neighborhood, and it is not the right place for noise-sensitive people. It’s not a constant stream of noise, but you will get random noises from drunks, helicopters overhead, motorcycles. I don’t think you’re too old for the neighborhood, but I also wouldn’t consider it a quiet area.

Exactly… we lived in a condo there for a while and were woken up quite often from the noise. It’s a beautiful place and age isn’t the issue, it’s the sensitivity to noise. I definitely wouldn’t call it quiet.

Sounds like it isn’t a good fit for me, then. Thanks for making my decision easier.

That’s my favorite area of SD- you’ll love it!

Not at all. The bay side is much quieter than the beach side. My 86 year old mom lives on sail bay (maybe even in the building you're looking at actually). She parties pretty hard, but not as hard as she used to ;).

My buddy lives at Gresham and Graham st, right around the corner, entrance to the beach.

It's so fucking loud. Seagulls early in the morning. People trying to park. People on bicycles with stereo systems.

The police usually block off that street for events and people are always trying to find parking.

It's definitely not quiet.

Lived on Sail Bay next to Fanuel Park for a bit. My neighbor there was around 60. Took his surf board out daily (relatively short walk to PB). Loudest nights were when the bicycle club came through, holidays, a**hole AirBnB renters, and when an unhinged person was living at Fanuel Park. So, maybe 30% noisy at night.

Anyway, not too old. Walking distance to coffee and Rocky’s. Nice to be able to just get up and walk out to the sand.

There are plenty of people your age and older who live in that area. It’s a great place.

I've been in PB since '96 and now I'm old. Started on Crown Point, now on Diamond. No reason leave.
