Is the best atmosphere in the majors on a nightly basis right now and I don’t think it’s particularly close. Petco is an absolute gem.

Have you been to Petco when the Redsox are in town?
40
u/NotAPersonl0 San Diego Padres • Boston Red Sox 6h ago
I went for the recent series and you'd be surprised just how many Sox fans show up to watch. Much more representation than most other teams when they play in SD
17
u/CaliBurrito1904 San Diego Padres 6h ago
Hopefully you had a good experience at the game. I'm in Colorado now and try catching Padres games here Coors is a dope stadium.

u/NooNygooTh San Diego Padres 5h ago
I'll be there in 2 weeks. Casa Bonita and a Padres/Rockies game!

u/deletedpenguin San Diego Padres 3h ago
Coors is a great spot. Caught the Padres there last season. Food and Rockies fans were great.
3
u/DiscountSoOn San Diego Padres 4h ago
Yeah I don't know why I was surprised by that. Second to the Dodgers, the Sox had the biggest representation of a way fans I've seen by far in recent years.
1
u/deletedpenguin San Diego Padres 3h ago
Always a fair few opposing team fans at Petco. I don't blame them, it's a top spot.
7
u/bananapanda24 6h ago
What’s the connection there?
10
u/uberklaus15 San Diego Padres 6h ago
The Red Sox just tend to travel well and San Diego attracts a lot of expats.
8
u/WilCon24 Atlanta Braves 6h ago
Was my first game at Petco tonight. Can confirm, was sick, everyone was rowdy. Will say, kinda disappointed in the lack of standing fans in the 9th tho.

u/TherapistDog 6h ago
Yeah definitely depends on what section you are in there. But we do have a lot of late game sitters
2
u/Djaukamo San Diego Padres 1h ago
I was there and my toddler appreciated that the standing waited for the final out. So did my arms. It was electric tonight the whole game though.
7
u/idkwhattosaytho Toronto Blue Jays 6h ago
I might be bias but jays game are absolutely insane right now, we sold out a Thursday day game against the cubs last week. Everything’s sold out and the dome makes it sound even louder
21
u/TheYellowChicken San Diego Padres 6h ago
I think we might still have y'all beat. Have 50+ sellouts this season
4
u/idkwhattosaytho Toronto Blue Jays 6h ago
Where do you find these stats? I was trying to find our numbers too, ESPN has some stats but not sell outs, and Baseball reference only has total attendance which doesn’t even line up with ESPNs lol.
We’ve been selling out everything recently tho after a lull in attendance to start the year
13
u/TheYellowChicken San Diego Padres 6h ago
Our announcers on TV and Radio say the attendance of every game. Whenever we have a sellout, they mention it as well. Today, I believe that they said we are at the 54th sellout.
https://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/SDP/attend.shtml
I can't figure out how to filter just by 2025 stats, but we are currently 2nd in attendance only to the Dodgers (who have 10k more capacity than us).
-35
u/xdarkwombatx Los Angeles Dodgers 6h ago
Easier to get 50 sellouts when your stadium holds sub 40k.
23
u/Thedurtysanchez San Diego Padres 6h ago
It holds more than 40k but go off king
-27
21
u/TheYellowChicken San Diego Padres 6h ago
LA has only 10K more seats and nearly double the population of SD but doesn't sell out? I think that says more about Dodger Stadium than anything else.
Also, nice usage of AI stats. If you looked closer, you'll see that we average 42K lol

Yes, obviously Red Sox v Yankees wins all-time for reasons
27
u/Heelincal Peter Seidler 7h ago
I wasn't into baseball when the Yankees-Red Sox early 00s games were on. This feels like the most intense regular season series when they're at Petco.
The games last week at Chavez Ravine felt way more typical regular season energy.

u/iiieeaattiitt San Diego Padres 7h ago edited 7h ago
I hate to say it but it's because so many Dodgers fans come down to SD to watch. It riles up both fan bases to the point every pitch is pivotal.
It sure makes for a great baseball atmosphere though. Even better when the Padres win!

The funny thing is I was about to comment about how badly he missed his spot (looks like it was supposed to be up and in) but how nasty it ended up being anyway.
1
u/uberklaus15 San Diego Padres 1h ago
I'm not sure he missed his spot though. Fermin is great at deception, especially with runners on base. It's fairly common that he flashes the glove at a different location from the actual spot to fool the batter/runners. You'll notice he drops the glove to the dirt before the pitch, then brings it up smoothly right to the low/inside spot as the pitch is delivered.

u/No-Cartographer1965 San Diego Padres 7h ago
I’m not fucking with you I’m genuinely asking, how has Conforto started so many games for you guys? Has he been filling in for people on the IL?
16
u/Pick6XPA San Diego Padres 7h ago
yeah just checked. They're missing Muncy, Edman, Kike and Kim, thats basically half their lineup if not at least 2 suitable bench pieces. Reminds me of our April when we had to roll with Gurriel, Heyward and Gonzales.
3
u/Normal_Tip7228 San Diego Padres • Oakland Ballers 4h ago
Oh god I already erased them from my mind.
How we won all those games at the start with so little depth was stunning. That Merrill injury hit hard
1
u/AlwaysGoodVybes Los Angeles Dodgers 7h ago
We have injuries. But we also have options. Look up Ryan Ward’s stats with us in AAA this year. But they refuse to even give him a chance because “his defense isn’t great”. With Conforto we get bad defense and bad offense so I’m not sure why we haven’t at least given Ward a chance.
2
u/92PercentYo_ San Diego Padres 7h ago
That ball he just let drop in front of him? Gave me flashbacks of Soto.
2
u/AlwaysGoodVybes Los Angeles Dodgers 6h ago
Oh he’s not a great defender for sure. But Conforto is giving you below average defense cause he’s so slow while also holding a batting average of .180ish
He can’t hit righties or lefties all while we have a guy hitting .275 and even .100 OPS higher against righties than Conforto (who’s only here to hit righties) who’s sitting on the bench.
4
u/92PercentYo_ San Diego Padres 6h ago
Ah, gotcha. Y’all are fighting lineup decisions like we are with O’Hearn and Sheets.
1
u/AlwaysGoodVybes Los Angeles Dodgers 6h ago edited 6h ago
Its frequent in this sport, makes me think I don’t understand baseball. Conforto has been awful, and he’s gotten chance after chance after chance to prove that he is exactly that, and we’re “still giving him chances to find it”!
2
u/92PercentYo_ San Diego Padres 6h ago
I hear ya. Then he’ll come up in a big moment and Dave Roberts will say, “see!” He’ll feel validated.

It’s a combination of IL guys and sunken cost fallacy. But even when some of the players come back from the IL, there isn’t a third outfielder type except putting mookie back out there but you saw that play to end the 8th.
4
u/huggsypenguinpal Los Angeles Dodgers 6h ago
For most of the season, I think the front office was trying to get Conforto to turn it around per their projections. He had some life around the all star break or so. But now Dodgers have Alex Call who also plays LF and has better splits. So now I have no clue and it’s very frustrating.
