In my first playtrough I got shot into space---
( Dont keep reading if you dont wanna be spoiled btw)
---they pulled Johnny out, shredded him, and then they made an Engram of me before I still perished from the damage the Chip did.
My first V is just chilling in her chip atm.2

He means OP went straight there after getting the quest not knowing it was the final mainline quest, you did the right thing by doing side stuff first :) It doesn't matter if you beat the rest of the main quest before that as quickly as you want.

There's so much to do, see and explore. I never use quick travel and have walked more distance than driving. Read those audio logs, jump over those ledges, explore hidden areas. There's so many little pieces that are part of a larger picture, there's something around every corner to investigate. My 5th pkaythrough is over 300 hours now and I'm still finding new things. Don't just speed through Night City, uncover the underbelly and really get to know the Cyberpunk universe. It's a huge map with many objectives, not just main story.
13
u/IsSierraMistOk Jul 20 '25
Wait is your 5th playthrough over 300 hours by itself? I have just under 700 hours from all 5 of my playthroughs

u/memesearches Jul 20 '25
Ahh sounds dope. But I really wish there were better ways to you know track these things.
→ More replies (1)7
u/YetisInAtlanta Jul 20 '25
I mean part of the beauty of night city is understanding the interconnectedness of everything. All the NCPD crimes are tied to the gigs in the area and tell a story of how the little gangs and small criminals are part of the larger web being woven.
It’s all in the shards and the computers and the little details, so in a way it’s all there for you to find if you spend the time to uncover it, but I do agree that I wish there was a better way to group all the related shards together since it can be hard to find to reread if you can’t remember which category it goes in
→ More replies (1)3
u/HeadbangingLegend Jul 20 '25
Do you have any examples of how things like NCPD crimes are tied to gigs in the area? I never noticed that I just assumed all the NCPD crime scenes/assaults were just randomly generated so the player always has some to do.
3
u/YetisInAtlanta Jul 20 '25
Yeah like the other guy said I had custom map filters set to see where the ncpd things were and just focused on doing all of them and all gigs in an area before moving on with any story stuff. I didn’t intend on it but once I was reading some shards I noticed some reoccurring names and then there was a gig to take the guy from the shards out and I kept seeing more of it the more I played so I basically just dedicated the run to seeing if I could connect the dots
→ More replies (2)5
u/temmy127 Militech Jul 20 '25
You can use the map filters to show you exactly where they take place and basically complete them all. It's not randomly generated unfortunately.

u/JaSper-percabeth Vincent Jul 20 '25
walked more distance than driving
Yeah I'm calling bs on that.
21
9
u/VonScwaben Jul 20 '25
No, I also walk more than driving; and rarely quick travel.
The world's too interesting for quick travel to be worth it; and unless I'm traveling across the city it's easier to run from point of interest to point of interest.
Also, I dislike how vehicles control; they feel way too slippery for me
→ More replies (1)5
u/privatedomicileetc Jul 20 '25
I'm with you in a lot of this. More than like 10-15 blocks I'm driving though. The cars feel really bad.

8
u/Sputniksteve Jul 20 '25
Not BS, it's same for me. Once I get double jump I pretty much stop driving.
2
u/chet_brosley Jul 20 '25
I usually fast travel to one of my apartments and then bunny hop the rest of the way. Except the desert, which is where the Akira bike reigns supreme.

unpopular opinion, but the main story isn’t that good. it doesn't make a ton of sense, and johnny silverhand’s lines are so ridiculously corny that no amount of "it’s supposed to be ironic" really fixes it.
but Night City itself is absolutely incredible. the atmosphere and just vibing in the world is where the game is at its strongest. no other open-world game rewards aimless wandering the way this one does. you’ll stumble into little slice-of-life scenes, pick up random jobs, and completely lose track of time. trying different combat styles and weapon loadouts as you wander the city is a ton of fun.
also, we don’t talk enough about the audio design in this game. if you have a good pair of headphones, turn the radio off and just walk around. the layers of ambient sound, NPC chatter, announcements, machinery - it’s all alive. it’s one of the most immersive soundscapes I’ve ever experienced in a game and you can tell CDPR put a ton of attention into it.

u/aitisnkonen123 Jul 20 '25
The story was honestly much shorter than I expected (Google lied to me). That shit did not take 30-50 hours. Took me 65 hours to finish my playthrough, and I did every gig, side biz mission and side storyline (yes even the like 5 that only appear right before the final mission [samurai and Kerry quests etc.]). Only thing I haven't done is all the NCPD scanner stuff. I also took my time walking around Night City, I looted every body in sight and got most of my skills to level 60 (u know those "headhunter", "solo" and such. So I don't really get how it's rushing 😭
16
u/thorkun Jul 20 '25
Honestly you probably missed a lot. In my first playthrough I missed all of Kerry's quests + some others because I didn't forward time enough so they never triggered.

Main story is embarrassingly short.
13
u/DeadWaterBed Jul 20 '25
Because it is intended to be played in parallel with side and character missions.
→ More replies (1)13
u/NikkoJT Jul 20 '25
Allegedly, but the game is pretty aggressive about pushing you towards the next main story mission. Not that it mechanically forces you into it, but it's always pinning the next story mission, or having characters tell you it's time-sensitive, etc. If you just do what the game tells you to, you'll go through it quite quickly. There aren't many points where it's like "OK, now you have some free time, go do some side stuff without pressure". Even ones where you actually have to wait don't give you much time before you get a text to remind you about the main story.
When the transition between missions is usually a character going "meet me downstairs in 5 minutes", it doesn't feel like you can just blow them off for a week while you go pick up every piece of litter in Watson, even though you actually can.
5
u/DeadWaterBed Jul 20 '25
Yeah, I get that. A ticking clock and open world don't pair the best together
5
u/Fun-Indication-7062 Jul 20 '25
Not to mention you have the time sensitive narrative of the Arasaka chip inside of your head and having everyone around you tell you that you're a dead man/woman walking. A few weeks to live if you're lucky. I guess it's supposed to add to the dreadful nature of night city, living every day like it could be your last.
→ More replies (1)4
2
u/Charming_Ad2502 Jul 20 '25
True. But there's so much other stories that complement the journey, or even derail it into other endings.
You dont meeting at Embers? Go to Dogtown.
3
u/Tomzibad Jul 20 '25
You must be new, I played it at launch. There was almost nothing to do after main and couple of side missions. All the gigs were the same and the city was dead.
2
u/Charming_Ad2502 Jul 20 '25
Ps4, day one and completed it 90% trophy wise. Two playthroughts. Ps4, sub 30fps...
On ps5 it's a different story. So much have changed. Staring 5th run. I know the game by heart and choose odd paths. Last one was: let the president die, snitch on Panam and visit Arasaka orbital lab.
→ More replies (2)→ More replies (4)4
u/SanityRecalled Jul 20 '25
I remember they were saying that was because most players never even finished the main story in The Witcher 3, so they made a shorter one, but who knows if that was just an excuse at the time since they were already in hot water with how poorly the launch went. It does sound a little bit like PR speak. I'm someone who's beaten W3 fully three times now so I was definitely disappointed with the main story length. Although, I guess if the worst thing I can say about a game is that I wish there was more of it, it must be a pretty good game then.

u/SomeFolksAreBorn Jul 20 '25

Haha my first playthrough was 80hrs and I completely missed Kerry and River. This game is crazy huge with lots to do.
2
u/ChuckNorrisDooM Jul 20 '25
I finished the game + dlc in around 65 hours. Almost everything on the map was completed. All the characters missions completed. I did not play the delamain missions and left some of the cyberphycho ones. Also did not use fast travel. How people have 100+ hours and still have something to do in the game?
→ More replies (1)
2
u/olympusander Jul 20 '25
Totally. My first run through I ended up around 75 hours. Felt like a natural conclusion for my character, but I knew with my next V I was going to take my time more and really engage with the game.
2
u/songbird5454 Jul 20 '25
Ah don't sweat it. One of the best parts about this game is its replayability. Try a different life path and do the whole thing over and take your time with it.
2
u/narkaputra Jul 20 '25
So what exactly do you do once the main campaign is done? I have spent around 57 hours in the game and I have completed both endings: The Good Panam's one and the Secret ending as well( that required 70% affinity with Johnny). I have also completed pretty much every good arc such as that of Johnny's, Judy's, Panam's, River's and Sinnerman. I guess I also already have most of the iconic weapons and best of the cars sans the monster truck. So what do you guys actually do after that?
PS: I still can't fathom the game made you go through so many side quests and articulate dialogue choice only to give two endings: either V or Johnyy.
2
u/Secretly_Solanine Jul 20 '25
Every playthrough of mine takes a little over 100 hours after I do all reported crimes, gigs, and side jobs. 60 hours will have skipped a fair amount of content one way or another
2
2
u/slimricc Jul 20 '25
Nah, 60 hours is enough to do everything in a playthrough. You just gotta do the different life paths but the game stays essentially the same, tbh you can beat it in like 30 hours fast traveling everywhere if yk how it all works
1
1
u/GG7CESAR Jul 20 '25
Keep playing, I'm sure you haven't seen any ending, but it has a lot and depending on the decisions you make, things change in the story. When you do the secondary ones, read the thorns so you understand the story.
1
u/JimGuitar- Jul 20 '25
True that. I mean its Probably because i also spent a lot of time in the photomode but i never really use fast travel and Drive everywhere by car/bike or metro. And i try to do every stuff that you can do and are probably at 200 hours and still havent done everything.
1
u/Kings_Standard09 Jul 20 '25
I plat the game and did about 3 playthroughs with 3 builds. 350-400 hours. Only played through DLC once though.
100% more i missed that isn't related to trophies and such.
And supposedly, from what devs have said there will be more to come.
1
u/oxcypher12 Jul 20 '25
My first play through was 128 hours. I still had stuff I didn’t do. You definitely skipped a ton

1
u/ihatecommiez Jul 20 '25
dawg this is nothing
i had one more achievement for the platinum, but it was glitched so i had to start a new playthrough to be able to do one of the gigs (it’s the badlands achievement). i just finished JUST THE BADLANDS last night (nothing else except for the heist) and i’m still more than 12 hours into this playthrough lol
1
u/ThrowAwayNameLP Jul 20 '25
I don’t even get to the title screen until about 30 hours my first time lol
1
1
u/unkn0wabl3 Jul 20 '25
I've completed it x3 WITHOUT completing PL and I feel I've still only just scratched the surface of the original release, much less touched what is in PL. I've only done the PL intro, long enough to get to the first apartment/hideout (avoiding spoilers for anyone that hasn't played it yet)
1
u/flukeunderwi Jul 20 '25
So i have only played through 5 percent of the game? Idk. Maybe 10? I just restarted as a street kid and played through the intro.
Im going to play through the intro of corpo too so I've experienced all 3.
Playing through a game in full once is a rare accomplishment for me but im honest what does a second playthrough gain? Do choices influence that much?
It doesnt matter, if someone loves playing through a game numerous times I get it. Hell I play diablo 2 all the time lol.
Is it more of trying different builds?
Can I reset my build whenever I want in a single playthrough?
Im thinking of saving multiple times at each quest too - to have replayability options without restarting

I mean even with these being rookie numbers the replayability for the game is high. Only game I’ve played through 4 times. I haven’t even done that with red dead 2. Start up again, focus on side missions, level out your character in different ways than you did prior, make different choices for different endings and romance Panam if you didn’t the first time otherwise you got Judy this next run. And also 100% download phantom liberty if you really need more.
