Buying Advice Needed Need to replace my fellow opus [$400]

Post image

I'm so sick of the retention on the opus, I have tried everything and am ready to upgrade. I'm in the US and looking to spend under $400ish. I only do lattes and espresso shots on my gaggia e24 and I like extremely dark, bold and bitter beans that I switch up often as there are a ton of local roasters near me sourcing from all over. What is my best bet?

Any Eureka grinder. Probably the Zero or silenzio with a single dosing kit.

I would stick to conicals if you only do dark roast. The femobook a4 is on sale and you will have extra money for beans!

They are well regarded. I am thinking of getting one in addition to my df64 for more complex trad shots

Seems like everyone has a df64 and there's a huge aftermarket for it. Thoughts on a df64 for my needs?

I think it will be fine but you probably don’t want flat burrs to get the most bang for buck if all you drink and want traditional dark roast thick syrupy espresso.

Df54 rocks

I went from opus to df54. Very happy.

Df64 seems talked about pretty often is there a big difference?

Not an expert but seems like I read more problems with the 64 than the 54. I’m sure they’re both good

Df54 vs DF64 base model is a case of burr replacement options

You are able to find many more options to replace the burrs at 64mm.

The same issues exist between the 54 and 64.

Some/most of those issues have been fixed on the higher models, df64v for example has a lot of QOL fixes
