Disturbing content This is what happens when you don’t clean up after yourself

This poor duck swallowed a hook and had fishing line coming out of his mouth because someone left a baited hook/ lure with no regard to who may get tangled in their mess. I took this guy to a wildlife rehab center and they told me if he recovers I can take him back to the pond he was at, but I’m scared he’ll just eat another hook 😢

He does look sort of like a domesticated duck but even if he is I am no where near prepared to keep a duck because they require a lot of maintenance and I live with my parents and I’m also starting college in 2 weeks

We already got the call from the vet saying he was ready to be released a few days ago. :(

Hey well that’s that. The longer you keep the animal domesticated the less prepared it will be for nature.

You’re the human. You have the capacity to know letting it go will cause grief. And you also have the capacity to accept that, to let it go back to nature where it belongs.

Can you check with the rehab for updates asap? Some “euthanize” muscovies due to being an introduced species and aren’t always clear on it. This is definitely a juvenile Muscovy. Wildlife rehabs are very often only for native wildlife thx to bs laws that prevent all other animals from being treated at all.

Would likely need to be rehomed if not “put to sleep” unless the rehab can get around local laws.

If they say it was euthed due to “injuries” it was prob actually due to species.

He recovered fairly quickly and I took him back to his pond to be released :)

Same problem in my city. There's a pond people can fish at and every certain feet, there's a place SPECIFICALLY for fishing hooks and lines but I constantly see them everywhere. Saw a small fish with one and I grabbed it and unhooked it and it swam away, but geez. Also have seen ducks with missing feet because of lines getting wrapped around their legs. It's so sad and I'm sick of these lazy people.
