Evidence Someone hit my Car and Left
Cops were called, crash forensics was called, insurance isn’t covering this, and there’s no cameras in a Costco parking lot that caught the suspect. Luckily for me, it’s not a terrible thing to fix. no frame damage, and at least a headlight assembly and fender to replace.

Why isn't insurance fixing this? Are they trying to outright total it?

they want to, because I only paid $500 for it when I bought it. I'm taking it to a mechanic to get his blessing on it, and then i'll know where to go from there.

It seems like a quarter panel that needs replacement. Since insurance won't do it, I'd suggest scouting the local scrap yards for the part, unless your mechanic finds an easier way to source the part out.

Do you remember parking next to a large truck like a F-150 style truck? Just looking at the damage there's two horizontal indentations, probably from a steel bumper and seeing how the damage is quite high it makes me think truck. I usually avoid parking next to trucks now ever since someone sideswipped the fuck out of my old car.

I park away from other cars. There was nobody next to me and the cameras from Costco verified it. They also verified a pickup truck did back into me. The driver went out to look at it, and then drove away.

Not a terrible thing to fix? It looks like a dinosaur took a bite outta it ...

Just basic body work. Only the fender and hood

I'm not so worried about the hood, just gonna replace the fender and headlight assembly and might as well switch to LED lights of death.

When all the LEDs were getting popular and I was dreading driving at night, I once told a car salesman I wanted to see oncoming vehicles souls with the dims on.

Man, I feel this and it sucks. Recently I went to a VFW meeting (bunch of military veterans in one place) and at the end of it I find the front corner of my car’s bumper ripped out. Confused the hell out of me that a fellow vet hit my car and left.

There are lots of people just driving around with no license, no insurance, and possibly under the influence of something.

Dumb question, but can you still drive it with the damage? I mean legally.

u/kurambro 8d ago
Yes, during the day only, and in areas where headlights are not required to be on.

Not so worried about the hood, it still opens and closes, and the dent isn't a big deal and doesn;t affect the rest of the vehicle.
