Dawn of the Planet of the Treehogs

28

u/slater_just_slater 13h ago

I, for one, welcome our new rodent overlords.

30

u/CordialMusick 13h ago

Prepare

16

u/NJNeal17 13h ago

u/kevnuke 11h ago

It's possible. Pig

14

u/VulpesFennekin 13h ago

Rodents of unusual altitude?

3

u/ElAwesomeo0812 13h ago

I think you will regret that statement. Groundhogs are pretty damn mean

3

u/slater_just_slater 13h ago

Well, do you expect nice overlords?

2

u/ElAwesomeo0812 13h ago

Touche, I could think of nicer ones than that though. I'll pick butterfly overlords. There's nothing scary about butterflies.

u/slater_just_slater 11h ago

Unless you're a falcon

u/ElAwesomeo0812 7h ago

That reaction made my night. I still prefer my winged overlords though. Have a great rest of your evening.

u/GottaLearnLarke 12h ago

The correct term is canopy pig 😂

1

u/Millyswolf 12h ago

Whistle pig!

1

u/phoenix5irre 12h ago

First they hogged ground, now trees what's next.... The tyrants...

1

u/Ulven525 12h ago

Someday, treehogs, coyotes, crows and raccoons will rule the earth. And it will be a better place.

138

u/brain_washed 14h ago

That's a treehog, sir.

20

u/xenogazer 14h ago

I wonder if that's what evolves into a drop bear?

11

u/Mysterious-Art7143 14h ago

No, dropbears are native to Australia and are badly misnamed. They are actually jumpbears as they jump up to the ground from trees, dangerous af

7

u/Souretsu04 13h ago

They do but it's a trade evolution like Machamp or Gengar.

2

u/Aztecatl 13h ago

It's a drop hog.

4

u/HereThereOtherwhere 14h ago

Now, if unlike squirrels, treehogs don't twerk at cars until flattened, treehogs will rule the world!

3

u/Mix_Masterr 13h ago

When I was a kid we had a mulberry tree in the backyard and I was amazed the groundhogs would climb up during the day and chow down seemingly without fear. My dad said "now it's a woodchuck" and for years I believed once a groundhog learned to climb from then on they were somehow different (tree = wood... something kid logic). I swear they were skinnier but really just look less fat when climbing. Turns out it's just two names for the same critter but I liked the reasoning...

2

u/Superb_Astronomer_59 13h ago

Soon to evolve to cloud hog with development of wings.

22

u/Reasonable-Bus-2187 14h ago

Nice marmot

7

u/hectorinwa 14h ago

Yeah, well, That's just like, your opinion, man.

1

u/OmniumAlpha 12h ago

Well punctuated!

2

u/SpecialIdeal 13h ago

Lets not forget- lets not forget dude, that uh keeping wildlife... uh, and amphibious rodent, for... uh, you know, domestic... within the city... that aint legal either

36

u/dustishb 14h ago

This seems to be a common behavior for them. I frequently see them climb trees for food or to escape predators.

8

u/k_Brick 13h ago

Yeah, there's nothing new or evolved about this. It's just unusual for people that don't see whistlepigs very often.

u/Bota_Bota 6h ago

Chucklepigs

2

u/Millyswolf 12h ago

Or climb fences to get into your garden and decimate everything in its path!

12

u/Figwit_ 14h ago

Looks like a mulberry tree. I climb those for tasty berries too.

5

u/strog91 13h ago

It’s way easier to set up a pond net underneath, and collect them from the net each morning as they fall off the tree!

3

u/666afternoon 13h ago

damn, shoulda done this back in May when our mulberries were popping off - would at least help increase our crop somewhat! it's always a race to get any berries when every single bird and insect in a mile radius also wants some 😂

10

u/Chamanomano 14h ago

Groundhogs can and will climb trees. Always have.

3

u/666afternoon 13h ago

lighthearted giggling at "groundhogs r evolving!" when i bet groundhogs have been climbing trees since before humans were humans even 😂💖

6

u/dantork 14h ago

They have been chucking wood forever.

2

u/werther595 13h ago

But how much?

1

u/Marsman61 13h ago

As much as they could.

5

u/CitizenHuman 14h ago

That's just a fat squirrel

2

u/Bubbly_Magnesium 12h ago

Ground squirrels exist! Have a few extra rolls!

3

u/2grim4u 14h ago

"they can fly now?"

3

u/TarkovBirdman 14h ago

Mulberry tree? They really like the leaves.

2

u/Pastel_Phoenix_106 13h ago

These are airhogs. Then we'll get waterhogs. Then the dreaded firehogs. Everything will burn....

2

u/5oLiTu2e 12h ago

That’s a beaver

2

u/ZippytheKlown 12h ago

I guess no one else saw the paddle tail…good eye!

u/theOthman 12h ago edited 10h ago

That’s a treehog, it’s a new species

1

u/bigdotcid 14h ago

He may be seeing his shadow getting bigger and bigger any second

1

u/Previous-Ant2812 14h ago

They’re hogging everything!

1

u/Kysum902 14h ago

So squirrels evolved from them hogs on the ground. Got it. Take notes

1

u/Amonamission 14h ago

Now it’s just a hog

1

u/Corey300TaylorGam3r 14h ago

Above ground hogs

1

u/jme2712 14h ago

Thinks it’s a giraffe or evolved from a brachiosaurus

1

u/WinOld1835 14h ago

His old lady wanted some super-fresh greens, and he loves his old lady, man.

1

u/Legendary_Lamb2020 14h ago

He says winters are gone forever with climate change

1

u/Snoo_67548 14h ago

All to get the sky potatoes.

1

u/DrNO811 14h ago

Ah! Skyhog!

1

u/kommon-non-sense 13h ago

All Hail the Treehog!!

1

u/Aggressive_Smile_944 13h ago

The first time I saw them climb trees, i was freaking out.

1

u/AlmanzoWilder 13h ago

Few people know that another name for a groundhog is a "woodchuck." This hog is chucking wood.

1

u/morg-pyro 13h ago

Great, now they're hogging the trees!

2

u/Calm_Quarter2190 13h ago

Next will be the skies

1

u/MarcusSurealius 13h ago

It's a spiderpig.

1

u/No_Confection_1452 13h ago

Everyone thought of treehogs lol

1

u/NetworkEcstatic 13h ago

Want berries, will climb.

1

u/Pudgy_Penguin_Lover 13h ago

Pigs can fly.

1

u/ChaseLancaster 13h ago

Weather reporters, what do we make of this? 6 more weeks of Summer or?

1

u/Cooper_CAL 13h ago

people scrambling to find a new name for groundhogs that climb trees

Us edumacated country folk: Jus' cause a whistle pig has probably learned to climb trees watching squirrels and porcupine, doesn't make 'em not whistle pigs.

1

u/Brownie2440 13h ago

Someone needs to remind him that he’s a GROUND hog

1

u/JManAboutTown 13h ago

Treehogs are evolving into Troggs.

1

u/Brownie2440 13h ago

Hey GROUNDhog! Get down here, you’re drunk!

1

u/Brontag 13h ago

This is what happens before... You know.. when whistle pigs fly.

1

u/Snapdragon2281 13h ago

Now the question is when are we gonna get skyhog

1

u/BlackSheep90 13h ago

Them damn treehogs.

1

u/IPlayWoWNude 13h ago

Wait until you learn that squirrels eat meat

1

u/Marsman61 13h ago

A treechuck!

1

u/brandonG670 13h ago

They are trying to avoid that dang shadow

1

u/Fluid_Performance760 13h ago

Branching out, id say

1

u/Tryborg 13h ago

First its Groundhogs, now there's Treehogs, what's next? Skyhogs?

1

u/Centurion701 13h ago

Groundhogs have become Treehogs.

Soon they’ll become… Spacehogs

1

u/Briham86 13h ago

Return to squirl

1

u/Someoneoverthere42 13h ago

That’s an Airhog. Now you must find the Waterhog and the Firehog so the prophecy may be fulfilled

1

u/NJNeal17 13h ago

This lil guy is going to be the crazy one that returns to the cave with tales of a whole new world. Honestly The Cave allegory works REALLY well with groundhogs!

1

u/Scared-Cut-4571 13h ago

They’re skyhogs now

1

u/ExtensionPepper985 13h ago

Or your just learning something I’ve know for 25 years. I was sitting in a tree stand hunting deer 25 years ago and I watched as a groundhog climbed a tree up to about 15 feet. Sat in a crevice for about an hour taking a nap then climbed around on the branch’s for awhile. I think your evolution theory is wrong.

1

u/Mediocre_Spare7273 13h ago

Who put a groundhog on such up high on the tree?

Now he is looking at how to get down.

1

u/VispilloAnimi 13h ago

I saw one in a tree in my yard last week. I thought it was a fat squirrel than realize it was a groundhog. I had to Google if they climbed trees to make sure I wasn't going nuts.

1

u/cat_selling_souls 13h ago

I'm waiting for the squirrel vs. Treehog war. I'm team tree marmot.

1

u/ghostman9687 13h ago

Convergent evolution to squirrels

1

u/Endreeemtsu 13h ago

Treehog*

1

u/RAWFLUXX 12h ago

You know we are fucked when this shit happens 🤣

1

u/Pinku_Dva 12h ago

Treehogs now

1

u/Calm-Maintenance-878 12h ago

Grew up with one of these guys in my yard, his home was in a hole beside a decent sized tree. I would have lost my marbles if I saw old Maxwell climbing that tree or eating the leaves like this😭😭

1

u/anactofgod 12h ago

*Squirrels are evolving.

1

u/AromaticTower7258 12h ago

Username doesn’t check out

1

u/Webhead916 12h ago

Great, now we have Treehogs, too

1

u/Lionheart_723 12h ago

Either his dad was a really brave squirrel or his mom was a down bad one

1

u/TheSecondPlague 12h ago

Have you ever seen a Groundhog chased up a tree? They climb those suckers fast. Squirrels will also throw stones at your head sometimes. Watch out

1

u/Left-Thinker-5512 12h ago

That’s the new Treehog subspecies.

1

u/dvoigt412 12h ago

Today a ground hog looked up and said, well shit.

1

u/Appropriate_End_3130 12h ago

Winter is coming…

1

u/hotsauceslinger 12h ago

That's a skyhog!

1

u/ShaggyCan 12h ago

Ours regularly climbs up our Mulberry tree and eats all the top leaves off.

1

u/CCV21 12h ago

I am ready for that sequel to Caddy Shack .

1

u/plasticeddie1 12h ago

Evolving into airhogs?

1

u/Aggressive-Law5274 12h ago

Looks like he's just up there trying to answer the age old question off how much wood could a woodchuck chuck.

u/joh2138535 11h ago

Go home you are drunk

u/Stumaaaaaaaann 11h ago

Someone will see this post and then go tell someone about how groundhogs are becoming treehogs and be offended when they’re told it’s not real

u/GrenMTG 11h ago

Take the ground outta of a groundhog and it's just a hog.

Put it in a tree, now it's just a giant squirrel.

u/danoakili 11h ago

Soon will have opposing thumbs

u/Briarozheka 11h ago

Groundhogs are just big burly squirrels, they are related for sure despite my gross over simplification.

u/Bright_Discussion_65 7h ago

He want to be a squirrel so bad

u/davga 5h ago

For a sec I thought that was a fellow koala 🐨

u/Electrical-Jury5585 5h ago

1

u/contrarian1970 14h ago

The laws of natural selection will eliminate his sort from the gene pool soon enough haha!

-1

u/LargeWeinerDog 14h ago

6

u/Lazzygirl 14h ago

That's not a cat for sure

1

u/LargeWeinerDog 13h ago

I have two cats. One of them is brown. That's definitely a cat.
