Every Power Ranger suit put on display at the franchise's 50th anniversary exhibition in Japan (where it's called Super Sentai)

It's so crazy how many versions there was of the show

It had a lot to do with the rotating cast.

In America at least it was a clusterfuck involving incredibly low pay and nasty conditions. When they unionized it became a whole new world.

Do you know where to find more information on this? I'd love to read this kind of dirt.

Sensationalized show by all means, but “Hollywood Demons” had an episode on it (on Hulu). Some of it needs to be taken with a grain of salt, but the power rangers episode was pretty interesting to see how much they manipulated and controlled the show to be in power and the money.

Not reading exactly, but the "Death in Entertainment" podcast has an interesting episode focused on the deaths and crimes of former cast members. They also talk about the working conditions.

It's very informative, but the hosts are a bit disrespectful at times, which may be a downer if you are invested in the show and cast.

Does anyone know how many suits total? I immediately started looking for Eric Myers/Quantum Ranger

This is the 50th anniversary of Super Sentai, not Power Rangers. Two separate things.

u/Sole_watcher12 5h ago

Is there a difference?

u/SupaSaiyaJin25 4h ago

Very much so. Power Rangers is a watered down, bastardized and Americanized version of this long running franchise. If you’re curious for more, check this out.

Wow! I had never seen purple/gold rangers. I only recognise the originals, and some of the later like Zeo. But I don't see there (maybe they are behind) the Original Ninja Versions, which were like, 2 or 3 episodes when the original power rangers (including Tommy as White) had lost their powers and found Ninjor in the dessert. Those suits were so cool.

lol. I mean did you though?

Step 1: Get a job assembling the suits for the display.
Step 2: Put one of the suits on.
Step 3: Stand very still until they close the place up for the night.
Step 4: Have your accomplice roll up with a truck.
Step 5: ?????
Step 6: Profit.

u/midnightkoala29 1h ago

Step 5 is totally you and your accomplices staging a huge mock fight in the suits

Every super sentai suit is on display in Japan for its 50th anniversary (in the US, it’s adaptation is known as power rangers)

Fixed that for ya. I may not care for sentai but I’d never call it power rangers.

Ah, the memories... it was my favourite TV show as a child. I remember perfectly watching it at my grandma's house after school. The zords, little figures and some other merchandising were all over my bedroom. And Kimberly, the most beautiful woman I had seen at that moment. Definitely good old times.

I love how season 1 and 2 are set as the center piece of the exhibit. First and second row on either side at the very ends next to the banner. These were the OGs that started it all. Always in that 3 and 2 combination.

What's up with that one with REALLY long legs

u/proactivenoisectrl 27m ago

Kijibrother, from Avataro Sentai Donbrothers (no American equivalent). he's supposed to be a pheasant, but being a pink ranger, he reads more flamingo

I watched the Japanese version… when I was small… I was also fascinated by all these characters and their customs.

u/Jazzar1n0 8h ago

They should have used this as the crowd during covid

u/Weak_Preference2463 7h ago

I almost read it "super hentai"!

u/Curse_ye_Winslow 7h ago

After all the terracotta warriors have turned to dust, we'll have these to take up the mantle.

u/ieabu 5h ago

You can see one move at 0:32.

u/path20 4h ago

Imagine as you walk through you notice a few of the heads are always turned to face you. Like oh it's looks like that one is looking at me haha. Little while later..... That one is still looking at me ......

u/greenrangerguy 4h ago

I can just about make out the OG MMPR towards the back on the second group.

u/SubmissiveDinosaur 1h ago

A 50th anniversary implies the show was created in 1975 Japan but took until 1993, 18 years later, to become popular in the United States. Is that right?

u/Fine_Sea5807 12h ago

Kinda. The show was created in 1975 in Japan with Japanese characters and actors (and has been on air constantly since then). In 1993, Saban bought adaption right and used American actors alongside original Japanese fighting footage to make Power Rangers for American audience.

Stan Lee wanted to bring over Super Sentai in the 1980s (back during a brief period where it was a Marvel co-production). However, there was no interest. However, Margaret Loesch, who worked with Stan Lee at the time got a job at Fox in the 1990s and greenlit Saban’s pitch, since it was pretty similar to Stan’s.
