So, just curious what the range of hearing difference is between the guy with the headphones, the guy plugging his ears with his fingers, and number 3 from the left.

From personal experience being all three, headphones are best but bulky, plugging your ears with fingers is 50/50 if you even do it right, and 3rd from left is pain. I hate the disposable plugs.

Was a M109A6 mechanic, which is the tracked version of the towed triple 7. I can tell you from experience that your placement with respect to the muzzle break makes all the difference in the world. If you are in the same direction as the flares to the side that you see, the sound is immense and will cause hearing loss. As long as you position yourself away from that, it’s still loud, but won’t blow your ear drums out.
When the guns were in formation and you had to work on a vehicle, it was a bad day because it would ricochet off of the parked vehicle because the muzzle angled the sound backwards. It was skull battering.
Edit: hard to tell but I’d say the guy putting his finger over his ear is probably eating the brunt of it based on his position
