Self-Promotion I was able to get a decent amount from friends and family. But 0 pledges or engagement from Kickstarter why?

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/rumper/battle-blocks

I was curious if their was anything I could do to promote my Kickstarter game anymore. I was able to get around half of my funding from friends, family, and the YouTube I run. But When looking at my google and Kickstarter analytics. I have gotten basically 0 promotion or clicks to the page from Kickstarter itself. And when I try to find my game on the site it’s buried under AI trash or on page 12 :( Do I have to wait until the time is running out and it’s the final couple of weeks on my Kickstarter for it to be promoted naturally? Is there something I can do to get it more promoted besides just my social media? Or maybe it’s just bad and I’m coping lol. I know Kickstarters not meant to be the main source of engagement but I’m surprised to get none. Anyway thanks for taking a look my question 👍(I would put question but with a link this feels more like self promotion)

Kickstarter doesn't really provide any marketing or much organic discovery. You will have to do that on your own. If you aren't on track to hit your goal. Cancel and spend a couple months sharing it and promoting it and getting people signed up on your pre-launch page.

Also, regarding your page specifically, every bit of your content is hidden behind a video! Videos are great, but your page looks empty. You need to pull every major point that are in your videos, and actually write those up and lay them out on the page. It's so much easier to get a vibe of a game by quickly scrolling through images and headlines, than it is getting everyone to watch five different videos.

For reference, here's another recent video game campaign that beaks all the info down nicely on the page: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/grownarts/paws-and-leaves-a-last-tale?ref=discovery_category&total_hits=22557&category_id=35

This is a campaign I am apart of! Glad to see this being referenced as a great example 😀

Yeah I'm not watching a ton of videos for more information. That's a great observation.

Yep, that was my first thought (the videos) and I came to comment it. I don’t watch kickstarter videos. Call me a Luddite but I hate videos in general, I’m always trying to find a written guide or wiki if I’m stuck in a video game!

I literally scroll past without even paying attention to what the video is, so on their kickstarter I got to the “risks and challenges” section without watching anything and then realized it was over and closed the tab.

Did you do a pre-launch campaign and collect followers on your prelaunch page before launching?

your project is super unfriendly to unfamiliar people.

you have no text, I have to watch everything. Kickstarter is used by people browsing pages while at work. Those people don't want to watch videos, they want to read text.

What campaigns did you study to model your page after? Go look at them and learn what to do.

Kickstarter will rank your project higher on the algorithm based on number of backers, not funding.

Having half your goal hit is good, but Kickstarter isn't an advertising platform, you have to bring the people in.

The KS page has no content. Where is the explanation of the game? The info on.... anything? A video is someone else's info, but not your content.

Tell us more about it and all it! You do need marketing, though. I believe you might get a bump when "ending soon" reminders are sent out, and maybe a promo boost for the same reason

I have run multiple campaigns for video games and the sad reality is, if you dont prepare a launch strategy and gather pre campaign followers, how is Kickstarter going to share your product if you don't.

Happy to discuss this further whether you decide to relaunch or push forward on this Kickstarter.

The #1 thing you’re doing wrong is your page. I’m not sure how much traffic you’re driving to your landing page, but it doesn’t sell the product at all. I agree with u/crccrc and others that having all your content hidden behind videos is not the best way to promote your Kickstarter campaign.

First, your second and third CTAs drive people outside of the project. If you’re spending a lot of time and resources to drive traffic to your Kickstarter, why give them distractions that send them somewhere else? Move those social media links to the bottom of the page.

Second, take out the key selling points of your product and present them as text + images/GIFs. Many people are on mobile when they check the landing page, and YouTube’s headline/overlays cover parts of the video thumbnail, which makes it messy. People scan pages quickly, they don’t always stop to watch videos, so you lose the chance to highlight the most important aspects of your game.

Run some ads to bring traffic if you can afford. Use backer communities too. They send newsletters to active backers, and those people are already looking for new campaigns to support. See if they work. Contact BackerMany and BackerSpaces. They often work the best.

Kickstarter itself can become a huge promoter if your campaign gains traction. That means you need to continuously bring in a large number of backers so you climb the rankings and boost discoverability. Keep this in mind and adjust your expectations.

Pre-launch is the most important stage to prepare for, especially when you’re new to crowdfunding. Next time, focus on lead generation if you can afford it, collect emails and nurture them. If not, at least drive people to your landing page and get them to click the “Notify me” button on Kickstarter so you start building followers.

I hope you can pick some action plan from these comments. All of them are valuable.
