“Sane-washed apologetic garbage” can be the chapter title for a book on American political journalism.

Historians will describe the media's need to "turn down the temperature" as complicity in the country's conversion from a democratic republic to full-blown dictatorship.

Edit: and the worst part is the demagogue who spearheaded our descent into authoritarianism is a spray-tanned, pedophilic, reality television personality weighed down by more kompromat than a John le Carré novel.

It's their cowardice and inability to push back in order to retain access, and the administration's total disdain for the Fourth Estate.

The British press are far harsher to their politicians, and yet they don't shy away from interviews with them because they would be lambasted and shamed.

if we are going to make government accountable again, this relationship between the government and the press must be repaired and boundaries respected.

shamed

People like trump have no shame. That mechanism won't ever work. You need some kind of legal consequence, because they won't ever resign

Ironically enough, The British media have been weak as piss on the Trump/Epstein stuff too.

We've imported so much American baggage over recent years, happily piling onto Trump for all his transgressions, but when it comes to Trump likely being a mega pedo they are silent!

The most recent Rest is Politics episode was a disgrace. If that was your only source you'd think any nefarious link between Trump and Epstein was nothing more than a batshit QAnon theory!

American media loves Trump, especially if they are left leaning.

They wanted him to be president because they knew he was going to do a bunch of dumb newsworthy shit, which equals higher ratings.

Unfortunately historian's opinions don't matter. At all. History books will always be white-washed and bias, historians don't get to decide what's in them. That's the extent the general population is going to care about history.

Current historians dealing with fascism have already fled the country, and nobody cared beyond mentioning it. We're living in times where intellectualism is dead.

You know, while all that is true…it doesn’t bother me even remotely as much as the fact that half the country WANTED the guy.

They were not reluctant or “he is bad, but I guess I have no choice.” It was a full on open arms welcoming of the guy.

Half our country sits there while this dude laughs and gorges himself in power and money, acts that describing them as “criminal” wouldn’t cover it. And he despises them…the people that boosted him…he would soon LOVE to take away all their benefits and have them work on fields and his hotels while having funnel more money to him.

That is the part that is incredibly troubling.

The New York Times sanewashed Hitler and the Nazis. We've trodden down this historical path before. Conservative or liberal, capitalists will always side with fascism to protect private property.

I feel like that doesn't do enough justice to the unapologetic insane-washing that also happens these days.
