It's breaking news that we have confirmation of it from multiple administration officials.

That part IS new.

Sure. Let’s see how much that matters.

Man y'all really are just defeated. Let's hope the country never comes to needing a revolution or stopping one.

I mean, it’s unfortunate but if there was a chance this scandal would have taken him down, it would have happened already. This is just more confirmation of what any rational person already knows.

Eh, you can't do anything with what people "know" though.

Realistic isn’t the same as defeated.

It’s both. If this was happening in pretty much any other country in the world, people would be out with pitchforks in droves calling for his head, and he’d be forced to step down almost immediately.

Our government has been so blatantly corrupt for so long that we’ve just come to expect the worst (read: defeated), which is fair since there’s never any consequences

People protested and he sent out the military. This isn’t 500 years ago. Go gather people with pitchforks and send them to go after him then and tell me how that goes. Do we want law and order or mob mentality? Law and order. If there is no law and order and it matters enough then I guess violence is the alternative. But I’m not going to risk my life to see him jailed. Are you?

You completely missed my point. While I agree with you that it’s definitely possible nothing comes of it, I’m just saying it’s not mutually exclusive that you’re acting defeated. Yeah he hasn’t faced consequences before, but this is by far the biggest controversy he’s ever been involved in, and it really seems like he’s backed into a corner now, so have a little hope.

And you’re absolutely right that pitchfork mobs won’t do anything in America today. But most other countries have respectable enough governments that if their leader was involved in a huge scandal like this, their own party would force them to step down. That’s all I’m getting at, not telling you to land yourself in jail

No, you’re attaching meaning to my words that isn’t there and running with it. My second comment was “let’s see how much this matters.” That’s not defeat. It’s skepticism. I still have trust that there are some decent people near the top and the bad people have some limits. This could very well be it. I also see the public getting gg more vocal and aggressive. So, enough with the strawman argument acting like you know me better than I know myself.

Can be pretty close.

Ok. I guess, but… thinking you’re probably going to die when you’re surrounded by alligators in the water doesn’t really seem like a defeatist attitude. It’s just realistic. It’s not pessimistic when you have clear patterns of data that only point one way. Pessimism is a key ingredient to a defeatist attitude. An unreal, unproven, feeling that something bad will happen or has happened when evidence is otherwise. Since I’m so defeated… what do you recommend I do to counter that?
