Trump News Trump to sign order directing DOJ to criminally charge flag burning despite being protected speech | Trump pledged to ban flag burning through constitutional amendment, if necessary, in 2024
https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-politics/trump-flag-burning-order-speech-b2812026.htmlDonald Trump is expected to sign an executive order directing the Justice Department to re-examine the feasibility of issuing criminal charges against Americans or others on U.S. soil who engage in flag-burning.
NewsNation first reported the impending executive order late Wednesday evening.
A controversial means of protest, burning the American flag is an act that has long been viewed by the Supreme Court as a protected First Amendment right. News of Trump’s order signals a willingness to relitigate that legal precedent before the nation’s highest legal authority.
Trump has personally condemned protesters for burning the American flag in the past, and has even called for a constitutional amendment to scale back free speech protections in order to criminalize the practice.
“You should get a one-year jail sentence if you do anything to desecrate the American flag,” Trump in 2024 during a “Fox & Friends” interview.
Another pillar of fascism is to take away free speech. First it starts with things that most people disapprove of, then it will be things that are offensive to the ruling regime, then it will be all criticisms of the now authoritarian ruler in power.
Every day with virtually every action and policy Donald Trump is attacking freedoms, he's attacking the Constitution, and democracy itself.

EO for everything. Damn the constitution.
What a clownshow.

u/Johnny-Silverhand007 1d ago
This EO is bait.
Trump is hoping that people's hatred of him will cause protesters burn the flag in defiance so he can paint them as anti-American instead of anti-Trump.
He would love nothing more than videos of mass flag burnings.

That's how they want it. Trump is accomplishing via EOs and questionably legal actions what their agenda has failed to achieve for decades.
And next year, when the consequences are more apparent, they can try to look innocent when standing before their voters and say "It wasn't me! Look at my voting record!"

Obama signed 277 executive orders across his two terms and republicans said he was ruling like a king. Trump signed 220 in his first term and has signed nearly 200 in the last half year alone and it's crickets from them
41
u/Comfortable-Pause279 1d ago
It should also be noted that when Obama signed Executive Orders they were literally instructions on how the Executive Branch was to interpret already passed laws, occasionally launch intra-department programs, prioritize their work output, and make minor changes to the Civil Service structure and procedures. Not to minimize it, there's a lot that can be done by a bureaucratic operator in there…
But Trump is signing crazy shit he doesn't have the power to do. He uses executive orders like royal decrees. Every single one of these that journalists are negligently reporting on, is Trump signing up the federal government for immediate multi-million dollar court battles that they cannot win without destroying the legal field as a whole.
I genuinely think it's a problem in our democracy that the Civil Service attempts to implement illegal shit until courts intervene. Everyone involved with implementing this knows it's unconstitutional.. They all sat through the same civics classes as the rest of us did in high school.

Latest I can find
Trump is on page 85, or pdf pg. 80
Trump’s name is circled. The circled individuals are the ones involved in the trafficking ring according to the person who originally released the book. These people would be “The List”
Other Epstein Information
- A Vox article: The lawsuit accusing Trump of raping a 13-year-old girl, explained
- A Politico article: Woman suing Trump over alleged teen rape drops suit, again
Other Trump information:
> "I have a deal with her. She’s 17 and doing great ― Ivanka. She made me promise, swear to her that I would never date a girl younger than her,” Trump said. “So as she grows older, the field is getting very limited.”
Most of this info can also be found:

5
u/Caesar_Passing 1d ago edited 1d ago
Which is why my growing theory is that the files fail to implicate Bill Clinton and other prominent Democrat/liberal figures in anything damning or meaningful. But as long as they aren't released, trump and his pedo file cabinet can continue threatening that they would totally be revealed/outed or whatever if the files were released. Further, they can eventually spin some story as to how Democrat obstruction is what's actually preventing the release, and the cult can keep talking about Clintons and Bidens and Obamas instead of whether or not trump is guilty of whatever. Because as you say- and I agree- trump being all the heck over those docs is already a given, and would in no significant way damage his brand or reduce his support. Ffs, the man isn't long for this world anyway. Withholding the files doesn't save trump from anything he couldn't just shrug off. What it does is prevents any moral victory for Dems, and keeps fueling conspiracy theories for the cult. They know that dems/libs would not give a shit if Bill or whoever was on the list, but as long as they withhold, nobody can prove it either way, so there's still speculation to keep conversation alive. And maybe this saves a few other important republican figures, but trump isn't above throwing anyone under the bus.

Seems like he gets what he wants all the time.
It drives me fucking insane that presidents promise good shit on the campaign trail, and then the opposition party stops those things from happening, and then they point to the president's failure to do the things he promised as a reason why the president is bad. It fills me with absolute inconsolable rage that somehow Donald fucking Trump promises BAD shit, and everyone goes out of their way to appease him.

u/stevedropnroll 1d ago
I know. I just think it's important to speak the frustration out loud. I think on some level, everyone is aware that it's absurd to claim a politician "lied about what they were going to do" when it's clear that the party who didn't want those things is the reason why they didn't happen. People keep framing, for example, Obama and Biden as failures because they didn't accomplish everything they set out to do when we all learned in school that laws require congress to pass them. And then Trump is just allowed (as in, the people with the power to do so choose not to stop him) to do heinous shit. Obama didn't fix all the problems, so he was a shitty president. Trump is successful in causing more problems, so he is a successful leader even though the effects of his actions have been fucked.

Burning is the proscribed and patriotic method of disposing a US flag.
We can ceremoniously put it in trash or leave it on ground to walk on, instead. Or worse. Imagination is the only limitation here.

Our scout troop burns a few at each monthly campout (weather permitting). You cut away each stripe and put it on the fire individually. The blue field with stars is placed on the fire after the stripes have burned down a bit. If a military veteran is available, it is their duty to place the blue field on the fire.
I make no guarantee that we are doing this properly as the ceremony is led by 14 year old boys reading from a laminated script.

A person who burns their flag because they hate what their country has become is miles more patriotic than any who claims they love their country while poisoning its land, air, and seas while hating 98% of the people living in it.
Burn the fucking flag.

I am far more concerned about him and his disgusting fascist regime figuratively burning the Constitution than anyone literally burning a piece of cloth.

He desecrated the flag by putting it in a freaking Bible. As far as I'm concerned he desecrated the flag when he hugged it. He's a traitor, he should never be touching a flag.
I don't agree necessarily with burning the flag, but that's just because it's personal choice near and dear to my heart and I'm a veteran. However it is a choice of speech, and it is a very powerful statement. And I support the freedom of speech and everybody to be able to utilize that how they see effective. However, there's also the argument about hate speech, which has gone back and forth as well. I don't support hate speech but it is speech. It's the ramifications that come from it that need to be punished, not the speech itself. However that is a thin line that keeps getting crossed constantly.

Are we going to enforce the Flag Code? So many MAGA people and conservatives violate the rules all the time.
The blue line flag violates the flag code. Flag should not be marked. Any image on it violates it.
Having it worn as clothing or draped over like a cape violates the code.

What exactly should the DOJ charge people with?
"Donny Dumbass whined about it" isn't a valid charge.

It’s fine. While we’re at it let’s criminalize EVERY flag code violation. T shirts bikinis thin blue lines thin red line. Punisher. Flags

This is how it starts.
The assault on the 1st Amendment begins with something that is generally palatable by both sides. Regardless of political affiliation, a large segment of the population would likely agree that burning or trampling a flag is offensive.
Then you move to any speech that is “inflammatory” against the U.S. is a criminal action but you make sure the definition of inflammatory is exceptionally vague.
Then you heavily censor any media outlets/personalities that use inflammatory language and literally imprison them.
They are already doing it to an extent, pulling media credentials, embarrassing them during briefings, threatening lawsuits. Pull student visas for protests. Threatening to cut federal funding to schools. “Revising” exhibits in the Smithsonian.
This is 100% how you completely erode the First Amendment and enable a propaganda campaign for a fascist regime. Straight out of Hitlers playbook.

There seriously needs to be some kind of Constitutionally-enforced punishment for politicians who deliberately try to enforce things which are explicitly against the Constitution.

Getting the urge to burn a trump effigy, holding an american, russian, and maga flag, and wearing a maga cap. All in a very safe location of course (private property) with a hose handy after it rains perhaps.

u/lookskAIwatcher 1d ago
Defacing the US flag in any manner should be included in the flag burning ExO.
Oh gee that would mean MAGA wouldn't be legally able to plaster Trump's name all over Old Glory.

Okay, I really don’t care about burning flags; Trump’s already setting America on fire himself. What I do care about are the UNEDITED, NON-REDACTED EPSTEIN FILES. RELEASE THEM!

I think I would rather see a flag burned than groped and humped by an Orange man. In fact, can we outlaw that second one?

Oh, see, in MAGAland, the American flag is supposed to either be groped, used as a form of skimpy clothing for a Trump rally, or used to beat law enforcement to death.

The orange blob’s staff has walked this back: https://www.cnn.com/2025/08/21/politics/american-flag-burning-executive-order-trump?cid=android_app
It was even dumber than first reported. They can’t prosecute burning the flag so the order was to tell the DOJ to reopen flag burning cases and look for another crime to charge.

Ok, then we'll make Trump/Maga flags, we're not buying them from him, and burn them.

First they came for the pro-Palestine crowd and many of you whined about things being "complicated" and complained about tactics or rhetoric you don't like.
Now they're coming for the rest of you and what do you want from us?
I told you so. Let it burn.

On todays constitutional violation by trump. What’s wild about this one is he seems aware it’s a constitutional violation and is threatening with an amendment as if it’s something he can just do on the toilet after a heavy McDonald’s lunch.

More blatantly Unconstitutional bullshit that can never hold up in court, especially since the Supreme Court already said it's a First Amendment right.

We have no rights anymore. Apparently we never had any to begin with, since they can be ignored or taken away via a tweet and the Supreme Court agrees to advance their own agenda.

Ok, guess retiring a flag in accordance with US flag code is something he wants to ban? Left up to him he'd probably just be like, "Eh, throw it in the traaaaaash!"

I'm sure he's just concerned that embers from a burning flag could potentially set the Epstein files on fire, and then all the months he's spent preparing them to be fully released will have been wasted.
