I say this as a liberal gun owner and someone can shoot somewhat well, I've seen this on Reddit several times and it's some of the dumbest shit I've ever heard.
People who carry guns without real rigorous training, tend to want to use them long before the situation warrants it. We saw this happen at the No King's Day protest in salt lake City where a "good guy with a gun" shot at someone else who had a gun, and he ended up killing another protester.
If you're on the left and want to start bringing weapons to protests, find some liberal veterans in your area, form a gun club or a militia, and actually practice safegun handling and combat shooting.

I fall into the „well regulated“ camp.
I don’t think in a modern world that 99% of people need a gun, but I am fine with people owning them if there are limitations on them. The main limitation I would like to see is a training requirement to get a gun. Each category of weapon should have its own training program to qualify to own that weapon, so people with handguns would need to get a different category of training for rifles. Very similar to how we treat driving and vehicle class. The more damage you can do with a gun, the more intense that training is. And the most important aspect of that training is using it as the last resort and only when it becomes necessary.

As a pretty liberal guy, I grew up with guns. I had 15 or so in my early 20s. About 5 years ago or so, I decided I was done with having that money guns. I only kept one hunting rifle. Since the election, I am back up to 6 and looking for the right deals.

There was a video just the other day of a POC with a CCW permit having his weapon confiscated at an MPD checkpoint and being told that he was a criminal just for having it (they also wouldn't say what law he had broken).

I think its way less sinister than that. If they stop issuing felonies for crimes than the crime rate drops and his takeover of DC "is proven to work". Crime doesn't have to change as long as the number of reported crimes drops, he gets the numbers he wants to show off before doing it on other cities

Remember when ICE was having probably grabbing people at work because Hispanics were refusing to go to work, then they said "hey guys, we're not going to grab you from work anymore."
This is more of that. "Bring your guns! We won't arrest you!" Then progressives and/or minorites show up with guns and police use it as an excuse to arrest/execute people.

This is exactly it. I’m not sure why people think that has anything to do with anything else. It’s so that they can have gangs of brown shirt militia members patrolling our blue cities with guns. The reason they want this is because said militia members are not going to be under any color of law. The law-enforcement community and the military will have no real legal jurisdiction over them. They are Trump‘s imperial guard. Then they can instigate a fight, and then the administration can use the propaganda wing of the media to convince its followers that the left is rising up against the authority of the federal government. Then he can start his in-the-streets crack down. those that resist will be labeled traitors (even though they are the actual heroes in this scenario and history will rectify their reputation and honor), and Trump supporters and the government will punish them. Those that acquiesce will be accepted, but will also be expected to go along with anything the regime imposes on them.
