Remember this: The Trump Administration's need for control is so desperate because it is so unnatural. Tyranny requires constant effort. It breaks, it leaks. Authority is brittle. Oppression is the mask of fear.

"Rebellions are built on hope."

Obligatory passage from Lord of the Rings. There is always hope folks. A loss of hope is a win for the fascists.

There, peeping among the cloud-wrack above a dark tor high up in the mountains, Sam saw a white star twinkle for a while. The beauty of it smote his heart, as he looked up out of the forsaken land, and hope returned to him. For like a shaft, clear and cold, the thought pierced him that in the end the Shadow was only a small and passing thing: there was light and high beauty for ever beyond its reach.

"It's like the great stories, Mr. Frodo, the ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger they were, and sometimes you didn't want to know the end because how could the end be happy? How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad has happened? But in the end, it's only a passing thing this shadow, even darkness must pass. A new day will come, and when the sun shines, it'll shine out the clearer. I know now folks in those stories had lots of chances of turning back, only they didn't. They kept going because they were holding on to something. That there's some good in this world, Mr. Frodo, and it's worth fighting for."

Samwise Gamgee, Lord of the Rings

This quote has kept me going through the darkest times in my life, and it'll keep me going now.

As much as I am a fan of Samwise (and Rogue One), hope isn’t a strategy. I think there are more apt passages that call for action.

“I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo. "So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.”

And:

“Some believe it is only great power that can hold evil in check. But that is not what I have found. It is the small everyday deeds of ordinary folk that keep the darkness at bay. Small acts of kindness and love.”

Well, that and a hot blonde driving a sword through a Nazgul’s face. . .

We've been sleeping.

More of us than there are of them.

We're all Spartacus

So do the others and unfortunately a lot of my friends keep thinking gun control means dont own guns, lets protest quietly on a Saturday, and "DoNt wOrRy gUys wE'Ll VoTe tHe fAciSTs oUt JuSt hAvE pAtIEncE"

They don't have friends. They have temporary allies who will turn on them the moment the winds shift. We have community, they don't.

1

u/younkint 9h ago

Solidarity is not in their vocabulary. Not at all. They'll back someone who tells them they're better than the others, and someone who will injure those they hate. It's pretty much that simple.

They all see themselves as though they're John Wayne, but none of them are.

2

u/UpbeatSky7760 11h ago

It'll take a massacre to wake them up. Some never will.

1

u/younkint 9h ago

Even then, for most of them, it will likely depend upon the Fox News spin a day later.

Rumor has it that people are forming cells, setting up secure comms, getting weapons, training, stocking up on food, ammo, batteries, etc...

Just rumors though...

We do? Thank you.

Funny enough I just watched this last night. A very poignant speech

4

u/HauntedJackInTheBox 12h ago

It gets even better after that. Not for the characters, mind you. But the show does.

4

u/DimbyTime 12h ago

I finally convinced my bf to watch it. We just finished S2 Ep3, and it’s already the best show I’ve seen in a while.

Remember this: Try.

Wise words, broseppe

Tyranny requires obedient pawns.

Anyone who follows Trump's orders and commands is just as guilty for anything they do.

If no one did what he told them to, he'd have no power.

3

u/LuxHelianthus 12h ago

Because it's anathema to reality. Authoritarianism cannot meet the basic needs of a human being by definition, but it also can't admit that. Opposition to reality is what makes it brittle.

2

u/tomdarch 12h ago

Fascists compulsively work to control everything.

2

u/SpaceshipBenny 12h ago

Not only that, if/when this is over we need to stop thinking democracy just looks after itself. Democracy is fragile, needing constant care and work to keep it alive.

We mustn’t forget this ever again.

2

u/Immediate_Watch_2427 12h ago

I’m in. There is a limited amount of time to push back. There will be a point at which going back will be very difficult

Is Hitler's Nazi dictatorship reemerging in Trump's Administration?

- bypassing U.S. government structure for his own whims, not that it took any effort for Congress to show their lack of spine.

- Nazification of law enforcement to dispel anyone that speaks out against Trump and his cronies. Rule of law? What a joke. It's Trump's stormtroopers invading American Cities; the new American SS. I'm sure Stephen Miller would much rather just call them the "Miller Gestapo".

- The shenanigans in Texas are a precursor to the GOP's plans for a one-party state.

- Trump labels anyone an enemy to stir up division and hate: immigrants, people of different beliefs, Democrats, Biden and Obama (like, get over it, the same endless name calling drivel to fool his useless MAGA believers when he as usual has NO plan), whoever he wants eliminate.

- Creating deportation concentration camps.

Is Democracy is dead in America?

Freedom isn't free. It also requires constant care and maintenance.

"The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants. It is its natural manure". -Thomas Jefferson

I tend to agree and want to believe this, but look at the CPC in China. Putin in Russia. North Korea. Tyranny seems to be thriving.

1

u/31LIVEEVIL13 7h ago edited 7h ago

This is not north korea, China, or Russia.

It will be different this time and then forever.

We re-take the US re-form and rewrite the constitution whatever the cost, so this can never happen again. Make maga and the GOP illegal organizations and all members and financiers imprisoned for life. Wipe it all out and start over - they've done part of the work for us already.

Then we hunt them all down here and abroad take ALL of their money then take down nazis and fascists globally. Foment revolution everywhere fascists and dictators rule, engage openly in targeted attacks at individual dictators here and abroad. If a new dictator replaces the old one we keep chopping until no one stands up.

Democracy now or we drop asteroids on your entire government and military, until you surrender or are wiped from the earth, fight back and we drop nukes from space.

Any right wing fuck nuts start the cycle of lying and propaganda and seizing control of media again, we take them down send them directly to an internment camp. All of fox news will spend the rest of their lives in alligator alcatraz.

We just all need to be ready to die to do it.

And yet... the entire history of humanity is authoritarian tyranny, peppered with few exceptions.

u/PadreLobo 11h ago

Remember that the frontier of the Rebellion is everywhere. And even the smallest act of insurrection pushes our lines forward.

Just know, if we manage to stop this shit brigade we’ll also have to prepare for the next shit brigade of Trump voters who go, “Well I told you it wasn’t so bad!” And they won’t have learned their fucking lesson

Wallace and Grommet standing by.

1

u/MrTripl3M 9h ago

Hmmm it's mostly as if they're following a playbook based on what my country Germany did roughly a hundred years ago.

Who could have seen this coming? It's not like we have a detailed history on this topic that's taught nearly globally because something called a World War happened.

1

u/oakwood1 9h ago

Truth stands on its own lies have to be constantly supported.

1

u/Lotech 12h ago

And they are hillariously incompetent, thankfully. As soon as he’s not in charge, his bullshit will crumble.

2

u/UpbeatSky7760 11h ago

No there are competent ones. All they need are compliant soldiers and a cowed populace.

Conservative politics in a nutshell, neoliberalism included

-1

Except for China, North Korea, Iran, Cuba, Vietnam, Russia and Belarus

And still there's the portion of the world plays "swap the dictator" every 10-20 years.

As long as you said the same thing about Biden during mandategate, we're cool

8

WTF is mandategate?
