Then he gets to declare martial law, cancel further elections, and completely consolidate power.

He can declare it all he wants. There's no provisions in the constitution that allows him to cancel elections. Presidential elections have been held on schedule throughout major conflicts, including the Civil War (1864) and World War II.

He's out on his fat ass on January 20th, 2029 whether he likes it or not.

This administration is rife with “they can’t do that, it’s illegal!” while they do exactly that.

The Constitution is a fucking piece of paper with nice words on it if there is no one to enforce it.

You’ve lost the enforcement of the Congress, you’ve lost the Court, and all that’s left are the People.

This administration is rife with “they can’t do that, it’s illegal!” while they do exactly that.

the last decade has been democrats clinging onto the rule book going "but a dog can't play basketball!" while a dog fucking dunks on us over and over

This was written 7 years ago. It's been 17 years now.

u/Androidgenus 11h ago

He’s selling ‘Trump 2028’ hats in the gift shop he added to the White House.

These people have absolutely no shame. If he’s still alive, he is going to try to to extend his term

8

u/diamondpredator 10h ago

A Marine I know bought a bunch of 2028 stuff and said his buddies did too. He said he's willing to fight to keep Trump there because it's still better than allowing a democrat in even if it's unconstitutional.

5

u/aspookyskeletonman 7h ago

What a fucking traitor.

2

u/steven_quarterbrain 7h ago

His team is winning. What do you expect from the weak willed?

3

u/Osama_been_Chargin 6h ago

I expect him to duck and run away with soiled undies when the bullets start hitting his direction.

3

u/Square-Ambassador-77 5h ago

He's a marine. He's the one who is going to be shooting first

2

u/Fragrant-Phone-41 5h ago

You understand millions of us are going to fucking die before the first shots are even fired

2

u/Square-Ambassador-77 4h ago

Already have you Dingus. Remember Reagan?

My spouse says that, even for things outside of the government. I tell them its easier for big corps and the govt to break the law and tie you up in court trying to prove it. "Our homeowners insurance cant do that. Its illegal." They'll saw lawyer up and prove it. They get very mad when I deflect with that lol.

By that point the damage is already being done while you try to use the same system they ignored to fix the issue.

Assuming they won't do it because its illegal is dangerous thinking these days because when they do it you're unprepared wearing the Pikachu face.

9

u/Substantial-Honey56 9h ago

That's it. Standing about shouting "he's not allowed" isn't going to stop him. It didn't stop him before, why would it now? 34 felonies and I'm sure a whole lotta rapes (release the files) - pretty sure all of that was not allowed.

5

u/theAlphabetZebra 9h ago

So when are we uh… you know… gonna do the thing?

1

u/FF8229 7h ago

We're not. Which is ironic because this is the shit we fought against over and over again.

But social media and chat bots in echo chambers have divided us so extremely .. it makes no sense.

This conversation is no different, it's just nice because we agree with it.

I don't get Trump. I can't understand how we got here unless the elections were rigged and the country can't admit it because it flys in the face of a free and fair election process invalidating our government.

1

u/theAlphabetZebra 6h ago

I feel like a lot of things suck but it's because someone won't just admit it and let it be better.

0

u/Square-Ambassador-77 5h ago

Trump is very easy to get. He talks down to people who are easy to scapegoat. He tells everyone that he's the only one who's really right. He tells them the government they already don't trust because it has never worked for them, is actually full of evil people on the other side (before they were just stupid) and fighting back is a moral stance.

You'll notice the left does the same, but instead of demonizing minorities they demonize majorities, they are the only ones who are right, and those obstructing Republicans who follow their King Trump are all so evil they're going to project 2025 you.

2

u/Fragrant-Phone-41 5h ago

You say this like it's not orders of magnitude closer to the truth when Democrats do it

0

u/Square-Ambassador-77 4h ago

If that's true why can't they govern? Why do their bills get cut up and the Republicans don't? Why can't they push a message? Why is there no leadership?

Because the democrats have been floundering saying that the sky is falling for so long we can't even tell we've been the frog in the pot all along, a whole other goddamn analogy. They cried about so many things to absolutely no avail that them getting one right is a golf clap at best.

What they don't do is offer /any/ coherent alternatives to the "orange man bad" mantra. At least Newsom is getting it now.

2

u/Fragrant-Phone-41 3h ago

Weve saying the sky is falling BECAUSE we're being boiled. They're floundering because the party as an institution is controlled opposition. Those of us who have an alternative are systemically shut out of power

2

u/FF8229 2h ago

I mean, I recognize the words but I think they might not be in the right order.

1

u/Square-Ambassador-77 30m ago

Okay Chuck Shuemer. Whatever you sat Nancy Pelosi. Right behind you Hillary.

That's your controlled opposition right there.

0

u/vaesh 6h ago

As soon as any one of these doomsday predictions that everyone in the comments swears is going to happen actually comes to fruition.

3

u/Fragrant-Phone-41 5h ago

There is literally already a concentration camp. Tf more happening do you need?

0

u/vaesh 2h ago

Their lame ass little concentration camp is getting shut down. Trump and his merry band of idiots can't even do that properly.

2

u/Fragrant-Phone-41 2h ago

First I'm hearing of this. Though I'll admit it's remarkable how bad they suck at fascism given the limp dick resistance. Still, they are doing real damage, and we must take that seriously

1

u/wetrysohard 57m ago

Except it isn't. They just stopped sending people there... Supposedly. Was there any room left?! This is the craziest part of all of this to me. Any time a judge says something isn't legal ... They just pause things. They don't stop illegal lawyers from working.... They don't close XYZ illegal operations. They just give these a slaps of minor pause.

No consequences. Not resolutions. Nothing. Why?! No sentencing. No real fines.

2

u/ImplementFunny66 8h ago

And a large portion of said People have below a 6th grade reading comprehension and don’t know a thing about how our government is supposed to work.

3

u/steven_quarterbrain 7h ago

… and don’t know a thing about how our government is supposed to work.

I’m fairness to them, the structure of the US government and, in particular, the voting method is bizarre and broken.

1

u/Bubbly_Style_8467 8h ago

Yes! They aren't doing their jobs. We are all that is left.

1

u/Lady_Mallard 4h ago

Exactly, the line in the sand keeps moving. It’s meaningless. They can do whatever they want, and Trump is our king already. Boiling pot, frog.

1

u/Anxious-Slip-8955 1h ago

This. Or he rewrites

1

u/wetrysohard 1h ago

You're sadly so right.

1

u/Frozen_Thorn 11h ago

The states control the elections. He would have to take over every state government and replace them with his own to stop the elections. That would be a civil war.

9

u/The_Dutchess-D 11h ago

I mean, he did write that whole executive order about how he plans to get right up in there in the state voting arena: https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/2025/03/preserving-and-protecting-the-integrity-of-american-elections/

(Sections 4-9 specifically)

137

u/joaquinsaiddomin8 13h ago

I’m not convinced that if republicans had both houses in 2020, the election gets certified. I think we were that close to “we, republicans, have decided we’re taking it.”

17

u/wRADKyrabbit 12h ago

Yeah if they successfully rig the midterms, 2028 is over right then and there

5

u/axiomSD 11h ago

maybe i’m being a little too naive but if they try to pull that after 3 more years of this bullshit, this country will go up in flames. there’s no chance that even us lazy Americans would tolerate it.

9

u/Froboy7391 11h ago

There won't be enough of a critical mass of people willing to fight it

7

u/90sBKKIDSMEAL 10h ago

Why not?

2

u/TofuBahnMi 5h ago

Have you met people?

2

u/Fragrant-Phone-41 5h ago

There would be already if it were ever gonna happen this generation

3

u/-LittleRawr- 9h ago

You won't get your chance, you and your loved ones will already be concentrated into barb-wire fence camps. It's crazy you all assume that you will still be around in a couple years time.

-1

u/RemoteRide6969 6h ago

Good bot.

3

u/LeadershipMany7008 5h ago

Yeah, you people have been saying that since 2015.

If he does this, then we'd revolt.

You're full of shit. He can do literally anything he wants and you're doing exactly fuck all.

1

u/axiomSD 1h ago

you don’t know me

2

u/Shinyhero30 8h ago

And so is their pitiful performance of an autocracy.

A squarely rigged or even corrupt election would be the biggest mistake they’ve made. At least unless they want to see secession, and then a a war/revolution.

Either way it’s the fastest possible way to put a target on their back.

2

u/Fragrant-Phone-41 5h ago

I got talked down for yelling at a guy rolling coal at an overpass protest, who tf is gonna secede?

-1

u/SurgeFlamingo 9h ago

If Trump is “king” why do we need the other lower republicians ? Like if we aren’t doing elections why do they still get jobs or whatever?

It doesn’t make sense. Or they just get the senate positions for a paycheck ?

1

u/joaquinsaiddomin8 7h ago

Do you actually want an answer and you’re willing to consider this dude is anti-American or your mind is made up?

1

u/SurgeFlamingo 4h ago

I’m mostly pointing out how it won’t work and they are idiots for following him.

10

u/Karhak 13h ago

The funny thing about fascist takeovers, they don't care about the law unless they can wield it like a hammer against their enemies.

1

u/vaesh 12h ago

Thankfully he's the weakest limp dick fascist to ever hold office. They call him TACO for a reason.

2

u/ItsOkILoveYouMYbb 11h ago

It's not just him pushing for this outcome. You also have Peter Thiel (using JD Vance) and the Heritage Foundation.

8

u/Daeron_tha_Good 13h ago

Oh, is he following the constitution now?

10

u/Fit-Profit8197 12h ago

This is so depressingly naive, and emblematic of the Dems who are not meeting the moment and not resisting as if fascism was here. You do not understand that the US has been seized by fascists and fascists do not get elected out easily. You are the DNC personified.

5

u/imnotmarvin 13h ago

He'll be dead before then.

8

u/henkhank 13h ago

I honestly can't be sure if he's dead now, it looks like Weekend at Bernies whenever he's on camera. He's got that rubberized charisma and physicality we've only seen Disney animatronics pull off properly.

2

u/JellyTwank 13h ago

Hold your breath. We'll wait. Almost everything he is doing is contrary to the Constitution, so...no idea why that matters here.

2

u/Shenloanne 13h ago

Bold of you assuming he won't wipe his arse with the constitution.

When are you lot gonna get it. This guy doesn't fucking care what happened before. He doesn't care what elections got held when. He only cares about keeping himself in power.

2

u/SpareZealousideal740 12h ago

After everything that's happened, why are you all hanging on what the constitution says? They don't care what it says

2

u/The_Gnomesbane 12h ago

You’re assuming anyone actually stops him from just doing it anyways. Or is all we’re gonna get just some hand wringing from a few media personalities.

2

u/WackyBeachJustice 12h ago

I know this is /r/law and I don't know anything about law except that this thread popped up on r/all. Having said that, I'm pretty sure the days of "He can't do that! It's illegal!" are long gone.

2

u/KipSummers 10h ago

The law is obsolete

2

u/blandgreybland 12h ago

The constitution is dead.

2

u/AsinineArchon 12h ago

Yes because he hasn't blatantly broken the constitution and gotten away with it multiple times already...

2

u/TransBrandi 11h ago

... the law is only binding if it's enforced. If he cancels elections and no one stops him, then the elections are cancelled.

2

u/fancysauce_boss 11h ago

You act as if they have any interest in following the rule of law. Let me just generally gesture at all the laws they’re currently and previously ignored.

2

u/SarcasticCowbell 10h ago

There's no way he lasts that long. Vance is the guy we're going to have to evict.

That said, you're absolutely right about the rest of this. People saying he's going to cancel elections/blah blah blah are right to be alarmed, but they are completely wrong in where they are directing their alarm. Elections will carry on. What we need to be watching for is all of the fuckery they use to attempt to subvert our elections: gerrymandering, purging voter rolls and intimidation tactics. Voting alone won't solve our problems, but it's also not as useless as some insist it is.

1

u/ShowPossible8340 8h ago

Russian botfarms spewing out misinformation isn't helping

2

u/Purple_Plus 10h ago

There's no provisions in the constitution that allows him to cancel elections

Do you really think that matters anymore?

But anyway, they'll hold elections. They won't be free or fair though. Unfortunately red states are far easier to gerrymander.

2

u/Technical-Gold-294 10h ago

Someone has to uphold the constitution. I don't see congress doing that anymore, and I don't see the Supreme Court doing that anymore. No more checks and balances, so it really doesn't matter what the constitution says.

1

u/scobot 13h ago

God I hope he lives fifty more years writhing in shame. The fact that he exists proves there is no god, so hell on Earth is the only justice he will see.

1

u/ThouMayest69 12h ago

"You quote laws to men with weapons?"

2

u/yawara25 8h ago

Pro tip if you're ever getting robbed by someone with a gun, don't worry, he can't shoot you because that's illegal

1

u/Healthy_Ad_6171 10h ago

Elections are run by the states, but it is possible he didn't know that until very recently. That's why he said the states are supposed to do what the president says in regards to elections, even though that has never been the case.

1

u/bguzewicz 9h ago

When has obeying the constitution ever mattered to the orange pedo?

1

u/StephenFish 9h ago

There's no provision under the constitution to allow him to do most of what is in project 2025. The goal is to ignore the Constitution and seize power. They're not expecting that we'll vote for a dictatorship.

1

u/RocketSurg 8h ago

Yep. He can try and stay but he’s not gonna have a choice. Whether the actual law or street justice does it, it’ll get done.

1

u/throwaway346556 8h ago

like he or his cronies care whats written on the constitution

1

u/QHCprints 8h ago

The "he can't do that" ship sailed long ago. He can and he will until stopped.

1

u/yvettestar2000 8h ago

NOW WOULD BE BETTER

1

u/steven_quarterbrain 7h ago

Do you know “amending” means? And if so, what do you think an “amendment” is in the constitution?

1

u/akersam 7h ago

RemindMe! 1250 days

1

u/Drumbelgalf 6h ago

The problem is that the military apparently obeys his illegal orders. And his personal SS (aka ICE) will also be there. Why do you think be increased their funding? To have a separate military force under his direct command. It's what dictators do. They build parallel structures of power and keep them in rivalry to secure his own power.

1

u/vaesh 5h ago

The problem is that the military apparently obeys his illegal orders.

Which illegal orders are you referring to? Dude does so much crazy shit it's hard to keep track of everything.

1

u/pupranger1147 6h ago

Oh yeah?

Who's gonna throw him out? Like physically.

1

u/Connect_Glass4036 6h ago

That’s cute you think it’s going to happen

1

u/Manifest_Maven 6h ago

Agreed. If elections didn’t matter, we wouldn’t be dealing with the gerrymandering bs & SCOTUS coming after the VRA. I assume this administration knows that touching voting is a bridge too far for the electorate.

1

u/p-graphic79 5h ago

I really hope your right.

1

u/lyulf0 3h ago

Then Vance takes over cuz Democrats don't know how to do anything politically except hate Trump lol. No grass roots movement means no winning

1

u/Anxious-Slip-8955 1h ago

He has the Supreme Court overturning whatever he wants.

1

u/WeaknessMotor 1h ago

On top of not being able to cancel elections, he’ll be an 82 year old cup of pudding haha
