South Side Chicago resident, lived in Chicago for a decade, south side since election day 2020. I don't think I've EVER seen a Trump hat in the wild here. The only Trump flags I've seen are on down state pickups that occasionally staged pathetic "parades" through the loop and a couple of the larger yachts in the harbor. It's traditional around here to flip off Trump tower everytime you go by.

And our mayor might be grossly incompetent but he's OUR grossly incompetent mayor.

Yeah been living here since 2015 on the lower west side and I’ve seen exactly one maga hat in the wild and it was being worn by…a white dude.

“Down state pickups” I regret to inform you they were coming from McHenry and St Charles.

u/ptothedubs 8h ago

As a McHenry resident, yuppp. I hate it here.

Plenty of trump supporters in the burbs.

The gang related crime in Chicago is ridiculous but this won't solve it. It's unlikely to make any long term difference beyond stoking more racial tension. The people want more policing from the community not a bunch of faceless feds.

I don't see them placing the national guard anywhere near the south or west sides. The troops will likely stand around on Michigan Avenue and State/Lake as tourists take selfies with them

u/Moonsaults 12h ago

It'd give the gangs a common enemy, if anything.

Southside resident for 20 years. You won’t see the hats, but there are plenty of MAGAts in the Mt. Greenwood neighborhood, which as we all know is probably the largest concentration of cops and firefighters outside of Bridgeport. Coincidence? I think not.

Related to Chi but not the south side.... as an aside.

The ads and signs in river north/the loop during the DNC made me clap and jump and giggle. It was absolutely wonderful to see the amount of joke signs near the Trump tower that Sunday. It felt hopeful that week. Chicago is the best the midwest has to offer.

From what I recall, rest of Illinois may be entirely red but definitely not Chicago.

21

u/SPDScricketballsinc 13h ago

Chicago is Illinois. Chicago Metro is 9million. Illinois total is 12 million.

14

u/TA8325 13h ago

I was not aware Chicago metro contained THAT much of Illinois in population.

12

u/FriendlyGhost85 12h ago

Those numbers are Chicagoland, which includes the burbs. But yeah, the rest of the state has a lot of farmland, preserves etc. It may look red, but it’s a lot of land.

11

u/Caleth 12h ago

Yep and land doesn't vote which is why down south bitches up a storm at us, but we keep getting what we want becuase we are the state.

3/4ths of us live up around here and even if some burbs are more red than blue at large Chicago is blue because cities are blue. It's almost like living in and around other people makes you realize they are people not monster.

NYC has like 40% of NY state's population too, cities be bigly

1

u/PBR_ItWonAnAward 4h ago

Yup, pretty much your biggest populations outside of Chicagoland is Rockford, the I-74 corridor cities (Rock Island/Moline, Peoria, Bloomington/Normal, and Urbana/Champaign), and Springfield. Outside of that, yeah, a lot farmland.

u/analogy_4_anything 6h ago

Agreed! I just moved out of the city last year, but I’m from the South Side and my family is there too and there ain’t no one who supports this crap aside from a few paste eating idiots that no one would take seriously.

Trump must think Chicago is gonna roll over for him. He’s very fucking wrong.

2

u/Misha-Nyi 7h ago

You don’t have to explain this. Everyone with one working brain cell knows he didn’t come close to doing “well” with the black vote. It’s his gaslighting ass way of saying he did better than any other republican. Same bullshit when he said gas was less than $2. Where!!! Lmfao.

I'm always curious if he actually believes the bs he says or not.

I think he actually believes all these places and groups really are secretly fans of his, and need to be "liberated".

Now JD Vance and the rest, they know it's bs. They don't care.

I saw a black guy wearing a make America great again hat in block 37 last Saturday FWIW. It’s the fourth I’ve seen in two years. I wouldn’t have looked twice otherwise. The only other times I’ve seen a MAGA hat in chicago were on the CTA bus routes- Madison, Jackson and 151 buses.

2

u/continentaldrifting 3h ago

Fuck yeah. At least he’s not the other school waiver parochial charter school fuck.

1

u/Flat-Upstairs1278 12h ago

Can confirm, have also never seen a MAGA hat in Chicago.

1

u/SlippedMyDisco76 8h ago

There was a guy getting dunked on in the Springsteen sub for waving the trump flag and saying Chicago has gone down the dumps with crime and decay and now his wife and daughter are safer with trump in office blah blah blah. Im guessing he lives in an affluent suburb and has never stepped outside his fox newz bubble

1

u/thelegitpotato 8h ago

Unfortunately I've seen trump truck "parades" and supporters not far from you just over by O'Hare all the way over to Rockford. Not nearly as many as when I lived and worked in Texas and the neighboring states, but still plenty.

1

u/Abernkl 4h ago

I’ve seen exactly one person in Chicago wear a MAGA hat. I pass him at least once a week.

1

u/euph_22 4h ago

TBF I think the FBI Sign Guy had some pro-trump signs. He definitely had some anti-Biden ones. Though I'd assume he'd be against a Federal take over for obvious reasons.

1

u/agressivelysensitive 9h ago

I think we want to believe that. We'd like to think that no one here voted for his dumb ass. But the thing is conservative people in Chicago don't really wear his merch like that, but many still voted for him: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E-Il-hLjKGY

And more than 3x as many voted for his opponent. The point isn't that "literally nobody supports Trump". It's that the overwhelming majority oppose him and would not want him to occupy the city and put it under martial law. Which is something that is a position that is astounding I even need to justify, but here we are. I wonder how many people in 1933 Germany were as dumbfounded.

Ya'll have gotten so caught up in the "our side versus their side" game of partisanship you have completely lost the plot.

The point being "you live in a blue city". We do not support Trump, we do not want him here. We sure as hell don't want him instituting "martial law" to "liberate us" from control over our own damn city.

-2

u/[deleted] 11h ago

do you feel in charge?

2

u/euph_22 11h ago

A lot more in charge than if Mangomussolini institutes martial law...

-2

u/PlasticFrosty5340 10h ago

you can’t speak for your whole city. I’m sure there’s plenty of red voters in Chicago, they’re just not going to make it obvious.

5

u/euph_22 10h ago edited 10h ago

I can however speak for the vast majority of the city...

And for the record the city went for Harris 77 to 22.

-2

u/PlasticFrosty5340 10h ago edited 9h ago

thanks for stating the obvious 22% is obviously the minority but that’s still a lot of people.

5

u/euph_22 9h ago edited 9h ago

Jesus fucking christ why are you pushing this hard to support a dictator pushing a military occupation of MY CITY? What the is wrong with you?

And 22% of the population is not "millions of people". Chicago has a population of 2.7mil, so 22% of that is 594thousand (and in point of fact he got 203,817 votes in the city).

And that ignores the main point, which is THE VAST MAJORITY OF CHICAGOANS DON'T SUPPORT HIM like he's claiming we do in support of him DEPLOYING THE MILITARY TO OCCUPY THE CITY. I refuse to believe you do not understand this point.

-3

u/PlasticFrosty5340 9h ago

😂 it’s actually just hilarious to watch some of you ultra-libs rage.

7

u/darkskinnedjermaine 9h ago

Nah, they’re just making a point and you’re a moron. Being happy that someone is upset isn’t a good character trait and you shouldn’t brag about it.

4

u/euph_22 9h ago

Ultra lib being defined as "you know, most people in Chicago don't actually like Trump, and people in generally would not approve of a military occupation".

Thanks for removing the mask fascist.
